i agree with eden abt interludes and chorus playing big role in evoking emotions in any IR song..for example the male chorus when kamal meets jayapradha during the dhakida thathimi song from salangai oli..
The solo violin will create the feeling of pity for sivakumar in the first interlude of "poomalai vaangi vanthan"
the veena(is that veena?) which brings u the picture of a peacock walking in the "thoogai illamayil aadi varuguthu" prelude..
the hindu mantras and church chorus in the prelude of "kaadhal ooviyam" from Alaigal oyvathillai tells u the whole story..
Anyone can visualize that "paruvamey" is a jogging song..
A lot of other songs which even without seeing the picturisation u can assume how will be the song..demographical song?
If u feel singer contributed something to create the emotion in a song then can we say that MD is fully responsible for the interludes and preludes?
The essence of the "kai vachalum vaikama poonalum" song from MMKR song brings be smile whenever i hear it..
Other MD's got the help of lyricist and singer to create emotions along with their music..but IR only HIMSELF..
If a man cud do such class BGM's and create apt emotions and known as the KING in BGM...then i assume he shud be the KING in evoking proper emotions in songs also..
Even is singer does play a role in bringing the emotions the basic tune is from MD..Some tunes will evoke emotions regardless of who sings it..
say IR cud bring soo much emotion to "naanaga naanillai thaayey" or "Idhayam oru koil" than SPB IMO..
so..MD knows the song better and the emotion than the singer...afterall he is the one who taught the singer to sing..so IR can take atleast some pride in making SPB sing with emotions..

BTW, I am looking for Thannan thanimaiyile song, but can't find it on the net. :(
Watch the movie and when the song ends, be rest assured there won't be a single dry-eyed person from the audience. Touching song.

Thanks for the history lesson Tigger.
I have come to realise that there is no point in my trying to make you understand and I met as well just bang my head against the wall.
Looks like I already knew how you would react two months ago. Thanks for pointing this out again. :)
And one more thing, can you please, please, I beg you..... be original? Do not use back what I said about you on me. Very child-like I must add.
Is this the way the fish gasps for air with weak jokes when it gets caught red-handed? Ularuthalayum nee mannan, pamburathalayum nee mannan.
Those jokes were coated with sarcasm. Since you could not comprehend simple English, I was hoping that at least the sarcasm will get to you.
But naturally, it got wasted on you. :)
BTW there is no scope for "misquoting" here. I just cut and pasted!
How about twisting and misunderstanding and then screaming on top of your voice?
A good example was yesterday's my-response-to-Kupps.
After I explained to you, did you say sorry? Athu eppadi, athuthaan rathathile odurathillei....

peeps
.... the male chorus when kamal meets jayapradha during the dhakida thathimi song from salangai oli..
I agree that it is a master stroke. Now I wonder which came first: did the director relate what he wanted or did IR add the music unasked. Whichever it was, the music was very good and suspense-filled.
Anyone can visualize that "paruvamey" is a jogging song..
Listen to Antha naal gnuyabagam nenjile vanthathethe nanbane nanbane... it is a "walking" song. :)

I prefer to copy your style when I want to be obnoxious since you are the master at that.
Anyway you can have the last word if you so desire. Good luck. I sincerely hope you are not this insufferable in real life.

Great discussion.. A great one.
ROTFL great to know that you know lot about the old tamil gems. generally, when some one says that he is a ARR fan then many say that you have not listened to old tamil song or this or that. You have a deep knowledge of all ages of film songs and I believe that you like ARR too.
So, people, here is a one who seems to love ARR inspite of having heard all great tamil songs.
Sorry for sandhula sindu padifying.
I wanted to participate but, my knowledge on these subjects are far less than the reorder level. My intention is not to start a feud between IR and ARR. I just wanted to appriciate ROTFL's knowledge on such songs, not that I did not want to appricieate kupps, eden or other. I know that they are very knowledgable already.

"Even in the ARR thread someone said (within a week of it's release) that the Bhagat Singth sound track is the album of the year. Now I could have raised hell there if I had wanted to, right?"..tigger
..Who stopped u tigger? If u have wat it takes, then u shud not have hesitated to walk in there and raise hell like u claimed u wanted to.. WN
What's the point of being obnoxious? would it be possible to "prove" that the movie is not album of the year? or to "prove" that it is the album of the year? the guy got carried away and made the statement, but after all it is an ARR thread. That's my point. It doesn't take a lot to raise hell on these things - just a lot lot of time on your hands, and a sick delight in annoying people. And please, I did not claim that I wanted to raise hell. Please read the sentence again.

3. Poo pookkum maasaam thaai maaasaam
4. Paatu Chooli Paada choolli
i feel like the song is jusssstttt flowing easily or something like that..... ROTFL - i don't remember getting that kind of feeling listening to old songs.... may be i have'nt heard many.... if you (or someone out there) can get what iam trying to say (about the flowwwwwinnnngg), can u pls get me a list of OLDies....
**** DIGRESSION ****
CF - as fas as i know, ARRs fan are of 2 categories - the fresh young blood and the VERY VERY OLD BLOOD, MSV fans..... (aiiaaaayaa, ROTFLaai kizhavaanaa akeaaachu!!!).... especially the MSV fans, who used to HATE IR right from bottom of heart - one good example is CHO.... wait, iam not saying ROTFL falls under that category, but may be he is one of those MSV fans, but who appreciates IR too....
******* END DIGRESSION ********

My argument in support of ROTFL.
See we have been too critical about northies and say that even when they mention great kings of India in textbooks, they only talk about Ashoka, Akbar , and etc. But, we in south had chera, chozha, and pandia who were probably the first to have trade links with europe and to have laid foundation in himalaya and conquered Indonesia etc. But the Hindian do not mention these things. We accuse them for this.
The same thing is happening here. What ROTFL seems to advocate it exactly what I say about the kings of south. Not that Ashoka or Akbar are inferior. THis is just to say that there had been similar kings, if not better in past too.
I think I have exposed my knowledge very much here. I dared to do it. There is a thrill in this. I haven't had any bashing for long.....not that I want it now.

WN, Go to the beginning of this thread http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/20926.14.18.02.html , it starts out decently enough. Notice how our good friend throws in a totally unnecessary comment just for the heck of it, and notice how the thread degenerates after that. this is what I mean by being obnoxious.

//lot of other songs which even without seeing the picturisation u can assume how will be the song..demographical song? //
I am reminded of the time I first heard malare malare from un kannil neer vazhindhal. This was before the cassette came out and shooting was going on in ooty.I heard this song for the first time in big bazzar street in coimbatore. The recording shop chap just listened to the song spell bound and exclaimed-Indha paata balu mahendra pinni eduthiruppar.ippave paakanum polea irukku.(BM did full justice to the song-movie was so so only)
IR's music has that sort of imagery which I have not found in few other MD's.Definitely not MSV-although he is a master. One of reason may be IR's strength in interpreting emotions musically.MSV himself will agree he is weak in BGM.Once an article in kungumam frankly said MSV kku rerecoding theriyadhu enbathai avare othu kolvar. There were hardly any protests from MSV fans.

tigger, I can't agree with u less. If u feel that someone makes a statement you cannot agree with and decide to disagree, that is not being obnoxious nor would I say it is borne out of a "sick delight" in annoying others. ROTFL has stood by what he has said and has been able to support his stand with great many evidence. How cud u say that is being "obnoxious".
I'm sorry, isnt that what a "DISCUSSION" forum is for? Or do u really think it is only to put jalra to what everyone else is saying, make meaningless statements that go unquestioned, ...and of course, according to u, also make personal attacks???
All u needed to go into the ARR thread was a firm conviction that TLOBS album is not the album of the year, a list of other albums that were as good or even better (and ur reasons why) and u cud have made a statement about it and supported ur reasons why wit evidence. I dont see how this is from a sick delight for annoying others? If u didnt have time, then tat's ur problem.
"And please, I did not claim that I wanted to raise hell. Please read the sentence again."
So u didnt do it bcos u didnt want to. If somebody else wanted to, that is their right to.
"Notice how our good friend throws in a totally unnecessary comment just for the heck of it, and notice how the thread degenerates after that"
I think ROTFL has been behaving quite well and carrying a good discussion. The only reason the thread degenerated was bcos people cud not handle what he was saying (truth hurts?) and decided to make PAs on him. Then most stopped PAs, but u seem to be carrying tat on. U r the one who comes across as obnoxious to me (wit ur this is an IR thread, so we dont want anything except pure worshipping here) Pls try not to digress by making ur usual PAs.
Most other IRFs here are behaving really well and taking the discussion in the right spirit.
Ur bringing them down wit ur intolerance for differing opinions. I dont think the thread degenerated, but has come to live with people suddenly 'thinking' and 'analysing' rather than jus blindly 'listing' for the sake of it.
