Pardon me guys, now the time has come for me to be rude. Creatures like tigger do not deserve
civic responses. Much as I like to remain civil, I cannot go on accepting “I will burst”
“conceited” kind of statement.
tigger
there is a subtle but very important difference between your 2 sentences. That has alwaysbeen your modus operandi.
WHAT!!! You are really a person who cannot comprehend the simplest of things. I didn’t expect
you to be so dense. Talk about the fish which opened its mouth and got caught. When you don't
open your mouth, people may think you are smart but when you open your mouth, you stupidity
shows.
"such stuff has been done equally well, if not
better," and "Look, it has been done before, may be better" is the same thing but with slightly different words. What the hell is wrong with you?
Go learn fundamental English comprehension, before arguing with me.
And what do you mean “modus operandi”? Looks like you have been spending too much time watching spy movies when better time could have been spent
learning English comprehension.
Someone starts a thread about IR's emotional songs, someone else says that he is the
undisputed king. OK he might have got carried away a bit, but this is an IR thread after all and no other MD was mentioned. So why make a big deal out of it unless you are specifically looking
for trouble.
Why are you such an idiot? When a false statement is made, it is natural for educated people to
correct it. If you know nothing about the subject, it is better if you keep your mouth shut.
Even in the ARR thread someone said (within a week of it's release) that the Bhagat Singth
sound track is the album of the year. Now I could have raised hell there if I had wanted to, right?
Like WhyNot said, who stopped you? Provided you had your sure-facts, unless you meet someone like you, no one is going to argue with you.
Anyway, I shouldn't have wasted so much time
arguing. It's just that this rotfl guy's conceit
really irritated me and forced me to reply.
We were having some good discussions and you could not bear it and came in to argue. Common
sense will irritate morons, I agree.
..I can only show you the way Tigger. But if you refuse to see, than too bad... rotfl
I meant every word I said. In spite of a IR fan Suresh coming and telling you that it is ridiculous to compare "malarnthum malaraada" with "poovile medai," you are continuing to be
obstinate.
..The more we know, the more we realise how little we know...rotfl
This thathuvam irritated you, the great know-all? But of course!

Thanks for condensing my points:
to say that MSV hasnt done any emotional songs better than IR smacks of either pure bias or ignorance.
Just because you remember more of IR songs doesnt mean that he was the best. That may be true in your perspective but to generalize it wouldnt be a worthy.
To suggest that IR's songs for a particular mood/setting are matched by none other is to betray a selective bias colored by a 'fan' feeling, IMO.
Much as I'm an ardent IR fan, I would certainly baulk at suggesting that 'Poovile Medai' scored higher in the emotional quotient stakes than 'Malarndhum malaraatha':(
I can accept ALL the statements made by both of you. Thalaiyai muttikkatha kuraiyaa, I have always maintained that IR has been good with emotional songs but to say he is the King is unacceptable.

"Oora therinjikkitaen olaga purinjikittaen kaNmani" is a wonderful song that even Visu used it again in one of his movies, this time getting Malaysia Vasu to sing it in S-G's music.
But, this song and Thannan thanimaiyile/Un kannil neer vazhinthaal are totally different.
Eden
I would be dishonest if I say that I am not disappointed. I was looking forward to having a good discussion with you and analyse the songs.
Perhaps, in your wisdom, you decided not to pursue this further .. < wink, wink >.
I understand. :)

Since u r such a knowledgeable DFer, why dont u do this, eden... Well, may be in some of the points listed, but not all -especially not at all on the intruments & rAgams that technically evoke specific emotions...will try to do as much as possible as time permits:-)
ROTFL, I'm not closed yet...the discussion is still young:-)
1. Can you give some link on the `thannanthanimayilE' song? I don't think I've heard this...
2. I think `yArai nambi nAn poRandhEn' has been quoted as a emotionally appealing song. I beg to disagree. If anything, the emotion it creates in me everytime I happen to listen (or when I saw the movie) was only `irritation':-) It can be called `sentimentalism' `dramatism' etc. but hardly touching one's feelings as it is out of normalcy...In fact there had been so many those days which were simply dramatic `shoutings'. And about the prelude / interludes, less said the better. ennavO horror movie mAdhiri noises...
I agree many songs (and scenes) of `pAsamalar' & `AlayamaNi' are extremely good, portraying & evoking great human emotions; but not this number...it's one of those `OVER' & `TOO MUCH' kind of things...the only solace is a couple of lines where the lyricist excelled (`thennayappethA eLaneeru, piLLayappethA kaNNeeru')...
To illustrate: If some one is drunk and comes to you, keeps repeatedly talking about something (even though he had some legitimate reason to complain) making great gestures and in the end cries vehemently, will you be moved? Or call him an extremely sensitive / emotion packed person? I would rather call him a drunkard / out of mind person:-) Similarly if one makes great angry shouting when there's someone seriously ill or even dead at home...will you call him emotional? Most people will tend to term him lunatic...
The music of `yArai nambi' is exactly like that...Many of Sivaji movies got spoiled by some overambitious fellows those days (pushing him too much and making everyone's life miserable)...I think at some point of time even MSV would've got so much irritated (or ran out of jarring instrumentals) that he probably started asking such fellows to better include the dialogs instead of troubling him:-))) (`sOdhanai mEl sOdhanai', `dEvanE ennaippArungaL' etc)

I have come to realise that there is no point in my trying to make you understand and I met as well just bang my head against the wall...adhavan
Mr.Adhavan,
Maybe if you took some time out and thought about this you will realize that it is very simple.
suppose:
x = number of village songs that were composed before IR
if I had said x = 0, then you have all the rights in the world to ridicule me, but I did not.
I merely said that x > 0 but whatever x may be those songs were not as memorable as the other songs of those times. Now that is pretty subjective I agree, so your 1st response in this thread I have no problems with. You said : "I cannot accept your statement that IR brought village songs to the forefront". That's ok with
me, since that's your opinion.
What I dont understand are all of your other statements addressed to me:
1. "You made an ignorant comment and she proved you wrong"
2. "Grow up man!"
3 "Sevudan kaathukku sanggu oothuna kathaiyaa irukku."
Now do you know the meaning of "prove"?
coming back to my example, if I had said x=0, then right, Gowri proved me wrong. But I didn't say that, did I?
So all this bullcrap from you leads me to ask:
WHAT'S YOUR AGENDA HERE???
From: Aadhavan (@ 210.186.61.127) on: Sun Mar 3 09:27:35 EST 2002
Hmm. What could be my agenda?
To locate Osama bin Laden? But then wouldn't this be the place unless he is the financier of Pagan for which ARR is to score music?
Maybe to "spoil" IR's name? But who in their right mind would want to flog a dead horse, for IR is a dead horse any way. Even if some of the HCIRF's want us to believe that he is a roaring lion. :)
Ahaa! Got it! To come after Tigger! But why Tigger? Maybe Tigger may want to explain this.
Ayyo, ularugirene! Enge antha sevuru? :)
************************************************************************************************
Mr.ROTFL aka Adhavan,
Is this the way the fish gasps for air with weak jokes when it gets caught red-handed? Ularuthalayum nee mannan, pamburathalayum nee mannan.
This is what I meant by your track record.

Why are you talking in riddles? Vaaranum endraal vaareettu ponga. :)
I made a statement against you and it was in that context; I am not going to hold it against you in every thread.
By the way, I still don't understand why you must revive older threads when the wounds are healing. :)

Thanks for assuring me that the discussion is still on.
Thanks for your analysis of Yarai nambi naan poranthen. But instead of doing it on a piecemeal basis, why don;t you give me a list of 5 songs which I will then attempt to match.
After that we can evaluate. Sariyaa?
Athey pol, I will also give five songs. :)

This song is from Enga Oor Raja, not Alaya Mani or Paasa Malar.

Chittukku did not create much of an impression on me. Give me the link, let me hear and then I can give my views.
