I'm starting a new thread dedicated to Hariharan's versitility as a singer.
He is today ,by far the most wanted singer by the MD's.HIs golden voice got very late recognition after a very long period of 10-15 years.....but the good part is that he is now reaping the fruits of his efforts finally.
All his latest songs are big hits.
Here are a few Hariharan songs {in tamil movies} that I like.
1.Malargaley malargaley...(saraswathi)
2.Oru Mani Adittaal...
3.Telephone mani pol...(desh)
4.Uyireh Uyireh...
5.Manamey thotta chinungi..(shades of mohanam)
6.En Manadhai kollai adittavaley...(hamsadhwani)
7.Vidukadhayaa indha vaazhkai...(Ahirbhairavi)
8.Taj mahaaley...(kaanada)
9.Chandiranai Thottadhu yaar...
10.Ennai thaalatta varuvalo..(Keeravani)
11.Vennilavey Vennilavey....
Tell me more on Hariharan's songs..
Some other songs I like of his are from His album "Colonial Cousins"....
Hariharan has the uncanny ability to bring emotion(bhaavam) into his songs..which is what makes it great to listen to apart from the fact that it is rendered really beautifully, with due respect given to the gamakaas.

I am curious...where did you get this info about Harini being HariHaran's sister?
Like pg, I also know Harini as a Std 12 student in Padma seshadri....and Hariharan is a southern based singer settled in Bombay!
And while you are it....
Is the tamizh version of "Kabhi na Kabhi" out yet..
It was supposed to be called MONALISA..?
And in the hindi version there is a song in which both Hariharan and SPB sing together...so it will be nice to listen to that in tamizh.

I recently bought a collection of hariharan
songs. His voice is good, though I feel sometimes
he is very repetitive in his singing style, nevertheless, his way of singing is fresh.
Cassette does not list the name of the movies or
music directors. So I may need some help in
finding out.
1. Thuli Thuli Pani thuli - good song, film, md ???
2. chandrani thoothudhu ( rakshagan)
3. Mudhan Mudahil - (aaha, deva)
4. Poothrikuum Poovin - (film, md???)
5. Kannukuul Un Uruvame, Nenjukul Un thiyaname - Great song, the best in this collection (film, MD???)
6. Kadhaal Sollava - good song, MD,Film ???
7. chinathamani cindha - md, film???
8. Yaro aalithadhu - md, film???
9. UdathuOOra Siripie - good folk song, Though
SPB instead of hariharan might have done better job md, film???
10. cha cha kadhalicha - md film??
11. Kanji pattu selai - Good lyrics, md, film???
They are very new songs. I liked most of them,
he definitely gives a new dimension to film
singing in general. He is not like SPB ( no one
will be), but defintely one of the best thing happened to TFM in recent times.

He is Ok! But his voice and singing are not in the same league as SPB's. Infact, Ennai Thalata Varulvalo sounds even better in Raja's voice.

Harini is not Hariharan's sister..well, calling her so is an INSULT to Hari's voice. Avaroda style of singing can no way be compared to an awful singer like Harini. Harini sings like Bhavadarini(IR's daughter) sings thru her nose.
Harini a stage la padarada naan keturukkean - a couple of times on stage shows. Quite Bad!! I must admit. I guess ARR's mixing does all the magic to her voice making it sound bearable on the track

Small digression:
Suddenly in NJ, the place I used to buy tamil
music, is flooded with all the new tamil songs.
It is unbelievable, and I am happy to be in
NJ now (atlast). I see a new label ramli, which
I have never heard b4. I hope everything is legal.
It is so cool to get all the new songs and it
makes U feel as if you are in madras

hariharan's nila kaikirudhu in indra is a well rendered song and hari is able to convey the nuances of the raag through his melliflous voice and rapid ascent descent patterns. in "aaha", he has sung "mudhal mudhalil paarthen" which although a blatant copy of a hindi number (deva revels in plagiarism- that's another story) is very pleasing to hear.
hariharan has certainly emerged as a fresh breath of air.

right from the day he sang "tamizha tamizha" in roja, there has been no looking back for HARIHARAN.he is one of the few "really" gifted singers in the industry today, blessed with a mesmerising golden voice.his in-depth knowledge of carnatic and hindustani music definitely add to his advantage.the amount of emotions(bhava) that he is able to deliver in his songs is really unbelievable.infact one of the main reasons for his popularity today is this.some of the songs where this aspect of his singing clear show are:
1.tamizha tamizha(nobody could have sung it so well)
2.vidukathaya
3.uyireh
4.vennilavae(esp the lines"bhoologam ellamae thoongi pona pinnae.... "
..and the list is endless.
his base round voice suitably supported by his "ghamakas" and vast range of innovations will definitely help him to continue being in the top for quite a lot of time to come.
just a small piece of regret:
were 15 odd years needed for the indian masses to acknwledge the greatness of this man?

MONALISA is released, but unfortunatley, it really is, ARR didnt go with Hariharan or SPB, probably cuz its not a movie. The song is sung by Mano and Krishnaraaj instead with Swarnalatha taking Chitra's place.

Kitcha/Neeks - Which is the song you are refering to, as I have the Mona Lisa album. Neeks is correct - All three Hindi movies of ARR, Rangeela, Mona Lisa and Ottam were not dubbed into Tamil.

Geetha:
Thanks for the Raagangal of the songs.
The song in UU Anbe Anbe nee en pillai
which you have said is also
based on Keeravani is also superb! I liked
the song the first time I heard.
The song Indha sirippinai yaengu paarthaen
is also great! Nice melody! Beautiful Music!
I liked the line :
Paarvaikku Or paarvai edhirpaarkkiraen
which is sung nicely by Hariharan.
Any Idea on which Raagam is this song based on ?
There is a tinge of the English Song
Nothing's gonna change my Love for you
in that song.
Also did you hear to the song in Monolisa by ARR
Veesum thendral Kaatrinai pOl endhan
indhayathil nee vizhundhaai
or the same one in Kabhi Na Kabhi by ARR
Maeri Saari Subuhom Maein ShaamOm Maein Tu Hi Tu
This song is a beautiful song definitely based
on a Classical Raagam, any Idea which is the
Raagam ?
Nov/Neeks/Kitcha:
Monolisa was released quite sometime back.
I got the CD combination Monolisa/Ottam by ARR by
Pyramid, Oh! man, the songs sounds very difficult
to digest as I have heard them in Hindi and seems
to be great! in Hindi.
