  Aahaya Pandhalile Ponunjal Oduthamma.
  
  The reason: It is folk, full of joy, perfect and complete melody, finest interlude and vocals, super singing by PS and TMS, reminds me of my innocent and protected childhood, the days when Chennai looked virgin, simple, naive, loving and like a Mother caring for her children. Reminded me of how Illaiyaraja's songs provided that great follow-on to where MSV was about to pass on his legacy, reminded me of the great thathuvams of MGR and presence of Sivaji, the emergence of Sivakumar, Muthuraman, Kamal and so on. A great feeling as if if I am living in some rice fields off Koyambedu, tending some cows!

  my goodness!!!!!! people really like tms song with mgr's smell. I can never tolerate such motivating songs which were written for the sake of mgr is in that movie. Anyway my vote is for....

  My choice would be 'thendral vandu theendum podu' from Avatharam'.
  I do not know the technicalities of a song but what has endeared the song to me is the lovely lyrics, excellent music and very appropriate picturisation.

  Some time back, I was talking to some Mallu guys who told me that there was one song in Tamil which is a reference song for the kind of beauty that persists in TFM..
  
  
  In 1996, when I was in Calcutta, my Bengali friends told me that they were moved to tears when they listend to this song, even if it were in Tamil - they claimed that the song left them with such a heavy heart, that they would avoid listening to the song !! that itself is a great tribute to this song !!!!
  
  The song mentioned above is "KANNAE KALAIMAAMEY" by KJY from Moondram Pirai....
