That was nice writeup on a non-existent career.I would never call Dinesh Mongia or Rajinder singh Ghai "unlucky".KR's talent is the best hidden secret in TFM and I am sure it would remain hidden eternally.
Inane lyrics, pedastrian tune, monotonous delivery, incoherent & unimaginative music arrangement, enacted on-screen by kakkuvan irumal karthik, anorexia Angela- this song is a combination of all un-attractive elements. Why this one for SOTD BB?kaN Drishti .....somehting like that?

Thanks for the happy TSB list.As per Veeriayya, Kalki's review had something to say on Sivaganagai seemai - "Sivagangai Meesai" -a note on the outsized moustaches for all male leads!

I disagree that ALBUM from KR was bad ..I think among teh current releases only singara chennai was not upto teh mark ..Ragasiyamai had three wonderful melodies ,but i think nobody gave a 3-4 hearings ..WOnderful melodies ....
This song is teh best from KR ,i think ..Thankfully he used teh right singers for this ...but teh picturisation was good ...
Thsi song had powerful interludes ,which i felt he shoudl have used liev strings ...It would have been wonderful !!!!

KR has given some very good tunes in his short career. this song being one among them.. the best IMO is 'konjum manjal pookal' from ullasam.. album had a couple of good songs and so did 'dum dum dum' & 'naam iruvar namakku iruvar'...kadhala kadhala was another forgettable album...

bb,
'Album' was disappointing ? I don't agree with this comment - It had some wonderful songs - Chellamaay Chellam, Kaathal Vaanoli, ThaaththaLikkuthae, piLLaith thaamarai, and a very nice IR - Sadhana Sargam Duet, 'Thaazhamboo thalaiyoda'
I don't remember any other album (by a young MD) in the recent past, which had so much variety in it,
IMO, this was one of the best 'album's, that didn't get the attention it deserved ..

SPB's version was better, I too feel. (Lyrics: Pa. Vijay?). Remember Parbhudeva's dazed 'Hayyo hayyayyo' when he's drenched by startling showers?!
Kartik Raja has had some pleasing moments in songs like 'Nadhiyoram' (Alexander), 'Indha sirippinai angu paarthen' (NINI), 'Laila laila' (KK), 'Ragasiyamaai' (Dum Dum Dum), 'Konjum manjal pookal'( Ullasam, love the song 'Veesum kaatrukku', but heard it was a lift)and 'Chellamey chellam' (Album).
Reg. Grahan, liked 'Kehte hain jisko mohabbat woh ho tum', but I have always wondered why the other song 'Aaj main khush hoon, lo tum hi bolo main hoon khush kyon' was lifted straight from IR's 'Netru vandha kaatru en paataai kondu vandhu thandhadhaa' (Kannmani/1994/IR-SJ). Or is it that it was Karthik Raja who composed this song too?

I heard that 'paandiyanin raajiyathil uyyalala' was tuned by KR.. and he had some involvement in 'then madhurai vaigai nadhi' as well.. may be someone can throw some light on that.. .

Yes, he has mentioned that in several interviews. He did that song and the bgm because his father was busy with other comittments but his name was not used in the titles for personal reasons.

" and a few disappointing albums like Album"
:((
As NagaS says, it was one of the best albums in the last couple of years which went unnoticed!
Even ragasiyammAi had 2 good duets.

Hey, I liked Album too. I liked almost all of the songs in it, except for the irritating "ammu kutti, bommu kutti" part in "Chellamaai Chellam"

OISG,
You are being too harsh. KR has an ear for melody. His orchestration is uncluttered . But unfortunately luck factor has deserted him. chellamai chellamai is a real cute song.
SOTD has asmooth rolling feel to it.
IR too seems to have given up on him and placed his money on the younger sibling with quixotic results.
I still feel that history will rate KR better than YSR.

yes SPB-Sujatha's version is good rather than HH(Sounds Nasal!!)
KR - gave some great tunes starting from
enakoru magan pirappan (En rasi kadaga rasi- UK)
aathu metula rosa (UK)
Nadhiyoram Veesum - (UK&Bhava)
Madonna padala nee (KK) but kaasu mela was a smash hit of that year.
Veesum, Konjum manjal - ULLASAM
but KR got recognition when he composed some amazing tunes for Madras Talkies "DUM DUM DUM"
Rahasiyamai - HH&SS
Un perai sonnale - UK&SS
Desingu raja - Harish & Sujatha
Sutrum boomi - Harini
Athan Varuvaha- Suba,Harini,Chitra sivaraman
DUM DUM DUM - unforgettable Album by karthik
Vanchinathan was a good try too
Amul baby by Shann(pop singer) & sujatha
but pick of Vaanjinathan was Muthamidavendum muthamidavendum
Ullam kollai pohuthe had another nice song by UK
Anbe Anbe ....
Recent Kaarthik Raja's albums were not upto the mark but had some good tunes as well
Rahasiyamai had 2 good songs
3 roses had anbal ulagai ..
He has talent but underrated

Song of the Day: Jana Gana Mana from Aydha Ezhuthu.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/janagana.rm
- The film that is creating the biggest buzz in Tamil Cinema industry these days is ManiRathnam's next venture, Aydha Ezhuththu. Starring Madhavan, Surya, Siddharth, Esha Deol, Meera Jasmine and Trisha. The film is also being made in Hindi as Yuva. The album has sold a record number of copies and has put A.R.Rahman on top again, I believe.
The songs of Aydha Ezhuthu are daringly different, in my opinion. I am sure there will be people who won't like it, because it is not the usual melody based album. Just like Boys, ARR has covered new ground, and I guess it will appeal to the urban youngsters at first, and more people later on. My pick from the album is Jana Gana Mana. I also liked ARR's humming in 'Sandai kOzhi' and the youthfulness of 'Dol Dol'.
- A few reviews on the song in the Ayidha Ezhuthu thread:
I cant get over Janaganamana....just 20 seconds...but what an effect.... Awesome stuff...... Nonchalant singing by ARR here.
Starst with a humming ....Jana gana Man line is sung in a very bad manner though it is fashinable ..Sounds a bit YSRish ..though different song ...8/10
Pretty easily most people's pick of the album. Rahman changed the way people say Vande Mataram and Mangalyam Thanthunanena, so I guess he would be even more under the fire for this one! ;-) Awesome song, sung by Rahman and Karthik. The lyrics suggest that it is a pretty brisk song, which the singing doesn't! "Lazy" but fashionable singing.
Starts off with the electric guitar and goes to the beats by drums (sorta a march) Gives it that feel that the people are marching giving their message. The way its sung surprised me when i listened to the song a second n 3rd time cuz it could have easily been sung like a rock song and worked to...but the way its sung gets the message across.Hehe wat i still don't get is that voice he uses which sounds like a guy is choking or abt to die. The second 1/2 of the song you can hear the strumming of a guitar which sounds awesome. and adds alot of life to the song.Ends with a glass break which works well with the song. What more do I needa say a song sung by ARR himself, this is my pick of the album.
sure to be a hit with everyone even if the other songs are not (10/10)
Next comes the song that rocked my world!
ARR's added that sound in the beginning to give me a warning to watch out for the incoming song! :) Rahman's "Oh Yuva" is brilliantly rendered. Typical Rahman I think, and then.. "Jana Gana Mana". This isnt the Rahman I know! What happened to his voice?! He sounds so.. so.. cool! A DFer here came up w/ the perfect word.. Nonchalant!
If anybody can come up w/ a hard-driving song w/ laidback singing, it's this man! Any other MD would have been blatantly aggressive. The whistles give us fleeting visions of the Wild West! Karthik's used only for the parts in lower tones and in the aggressive bits like "Chut Put Sel". The song builds up in perfect pace w/ glass breaking all over the place. The next two stanzas help move Rahman from the "come in-scream-modulate-leave" singer to a very decent level. But then "Vellai Pookal" had already showcased his singing capabilities.
The pick of the album... ARR's done it again.
Jana Gana Mana, at places, reminds one of the hit song Columbus columbus in Jeans.

bb, Jana Gana mana - acquired tastea? :-)
The album is "daringly different" for someone who hasnt heard "Boys" or Backstreet boys/Venga Boys :-)
My pick is the Adnan Sami-Sujatha song, although Adnan has grunted out some of the words and has made a mess of it.
