Rishi is one hell of a album by young YSR.I simply love the songs which definitely carry a distinct flavour in them. Possibly 100 times better than Thenali IMHO.

it is sad to see that YSR is following the footsteps of ARR.
ARR murdered in the song"Vane vane Muthalvane""
YSR latest "Mane mane mane Maane""
Ennangappa ithu..tamil kolai .
i request u guys yo reject to these kind of songs.
thanks,
kuppan.

Kuppan,
To me it is ARR who is following YSR. In Poovellam Kettuppar, there is a song Poova Poova Poova Poove. I believe that movie came before Mudhalvan?!? And now Mane Mane Maane. Reject Mudhalvane and then we can reject Mane Mane. What matters is whether the tune sounds similar. I don't think so. Oru kootame
IR kudumbathai thitradhunne mudivukattikuttu alaiyaraanga.
Appadi ennappa IR & family thappu pannaanga. Originalaa tune pottatha?!

After some prodding by you guys I also now think that song is a good POP composition, even though he borrowed some sounds from dad :-). I especially liked the guitar or piano 'bangs' (what do you call them).
At this rate, YSR is all set to become a major POP music provider. He just needs some really hit melodies and some more variety to get into the mainstream.

Hei guys!
I will just say that "Nilavai koncham" is my pick of the album. Ofcouse all the other songs are suberb but the song that i think was very different from all the songs until now is "Nilavai koncham".
YSR goes on his fathers footsteps as a trendsetter!!

I agree with shysun, Suren and Raja-visiri.,
'Nilavarik konjcham' really grows on me after repeated listenings. Excellent work by YSR.

Hi Guys!
I just saw an interview with YSR in sun tv. Maybe it is old but i am living in Denmark, so i didn't get the videotapes so quick. But in the interview the interviewer ask some interesting questions:
You are working in "Theena" can you play a song bid from that album?
He says yes, and i heard a very little bid of the song. Wow, and i mean it, what a wonderful song. I couldn't hear who the singer was, it was and male singer, maybe it was Hariharan, but it was a different voice. It was different music (ofcourse youth full). It was something like:
Anbe.. Anbe.. un aadai endrea
Ennai.. Ennai.. nee eetral indrea
Nee illai endral vazhkai illai.. vanavilea
by Vaali
I can't wait for the album
Another question was:
You are working with "Sethu" fame Bala in the movie "Nantha", can you tell us something about that?
He says that he took 10-11 days to record the first song in that movie. He had just recorded one song in the movie.
YSR is on the pitch now. go on boy!!
Watch out ARR,Deva,SAR and the others!!!

ysr ,yes he is on fire,he will sure give a run for the money of others ,he is into modernising the rare blend of raja genius,he is fresh, there is this song "sellum varaiyo" for a sun tv teleserial "ananda bhavan" sung by unni menon a beautiful melody with eclectic arrangement, this particular song has no doubt given unni menon a second chance in tamil film music.ysr go ahead boy ,you are the best in your age group in the whole of india,we are proud to have such a young and talented ,level headed ,determined md in you,we are here to listen, appreciate and also critic your music, not like those arr fans ,who simply appreciate all his inspired stuff,be original, well done ....armstrong,wellington,nz.

Rishi, is nothing but excellent. Great work by YSR. After the miscerable flops of Rhythm and Tenali ( movie and music), ARR is hiding himself. Tenali, I never saw such a worst movie from Kamal and never heard heard such a irritating music from ARR.

you guys criticizing Kamal are all bunch of pricks , forget the movie thenali, looking at kamals acting, it was meant to be a comedy hence dont expect a strong story line, l like kamal cos of that ,when he does a serious movie its so good , no flaws ,and when its a comedy its a all out comedy

hahahaha .. Rishi is better than Rhythm??? NOw datz something to laugh @ ..hahaha .... I still can't get da songs out of my head from rhythm no matter how hard I try... Rhythm is great. ARR did not hide after that album. What he did was, he went on a US tour ... w/ about 4 concerts that he has done. Wat u talkin' 'bout him hidin'?? His latest Zubeidaa has been out for over three weeks now.

Senthil,
I am a great fan of kamal. SO far I never missed a single movie of kamal, including the worst of Magarasan and Tenali. Frankly speaking, Kamal did a good performance in Tenali. But, you know, to show his skills he started dominating too much. Compared to kamal, Jeyaram impressed me a lot. Songs - ARR spoiled the entire movie.

you are a typical (ARR)ogant fan in this forum-you have been told a hundred times to avoid using that afro-american lingo- you persist in doing despite the fact all of us find it irritating to the core.you just validate my observation about you people being arrogant.
for your info,yu DON'T sound 'cool'.
mind giving it a break?
eternally gratefully yours....

Aren't we supposed to be discussing Yuvan Shankar Raja here?
Anyway, are the songs from "Rishi" really that good? I don't live in India, so I haven't had a chance to listen to the songs from that movie as yet. Will someone tell me where I can listen to the songs on the internet?
Yuvan Shankar Raja had scored some good music in "Poovellaam Kaetuppaar" (except for the "Poovae Poovae" number, which, frankly was quite irritating, especially the idea of describing Jyothika as a flower), but in my opinion, since then he has failed to deliver. But I would really like to listen to the songs from "Rishi" if they are that good. You see, I cannot trust the reviews on this website (you guys said A R Rahman's "Rhythm" was "excellent").

The album Rishi is good, overall.
The Gem is 'Mane Mane Maane Maane..' both HH and Sujatha version. 'Vaa Vaa Poove..', 'Jumbo Ithu Kaadhal Seyum Neram...', 'Nilavai Konjam kaadhali' are also too good numbers.

Few things I noted while hearing Rishi
"nilave konjam kadhali" Melody is very impressive. Good vocal harmonies.
Pallavi is very catchy with a good chord progression (reminds of his dad), good bridge to shift to vocal harmonies. Some parts are very close to the Mission impossible theme, especially the flute+whistle bit in the first bgm. Suddenly a rap comes in --- it was cool. But BGM ends with a somewhat an ordinary piano piece. Second BGM also has it mission impossible like flute piece once again. Anuradha Sriram renders it very well
Her pronunciation reminds me of Anupama’s in konjum nilavu , the words “verukiren” are given good punch. Anuradha sriram did a great job in the song.
It seems she has some misunderstanding with few MDs in the industry, I think it is high time to consider her, forgetting the past. Other MDs. should give her more opportunities hey! She sings Tamil like Tamil. A Foot tapping number.
Oh mane mane...pallavi sandam is close to "parijatha poove" and "kudagumalai katil oru" Yuvan should have given more variations in percussion in order to avoid the SAR feel. The second bgm violin is very empty, just a keyboard piece. Hariharan does it well, but he has to start thinking of using different set of modulations. Sujatha also sings this song. Does really good. The voice modulation used in this by Sujatha in this song similar to “Neram piruthu” A nice song to pass time
Rishi Rishi: Sung by Shanker Mahadevan, this guy improving day by day, Yuvan has programmed nice fresh grooves that I was looking for. The industrial sounds are good, but still something lacks in the Saranam. Started to search for the remote to skip to next song.
Jumbo: Starts of with a piccolo and then goes to Mexican beats, SPB Jr. does it well along with Sujatha. The claps like grooves has been used by many, also the first BGM uses the 1 3 5 minor notes which makes it sound like ye ye kechu kileye. The Saranam has the same old pad sounds filling from behind in the second part. Percussion is interesting in the second bgm, I felt that brass-fall sound is used more than required. Good fast number that can be played in parties.
Vaa Vaa : The songs reminds me of an old IR song in “anbulla rajinikanth”, SJ is getting old , the piano chords, banjo etc are very boring. Reminds of ye ye ye kechu kilye..
The first bgm beats are good. The Saram has interesting piece of tabla sound. The second bgm plays the tune and chorus again. The drum sound uses here are very average. Oncve again string-pad follows the second part of Saranam and end with the piano piece.
Yuvan needs to think of new sounds instead of same old mallets, bells, string pads, Piano.
Good attempt by the youngster.

Re: nilavi konjam kAdhali - wasn't the flute+whistle sounds used by rAjA earlier ??
I think the pronounciation is basically an indian singing with an western accent which is required for the song.
Re: oh mane mane ..I see the SARish feel. But I dont have any problems with it. Was it bagpiper sounds playing to indian bell sounds ?
Re: rishi. It has some indian style hand cymbals. Notice it ??
Re: Jumbo. Notice the use of trumpets for Jumbo (elephant) like theme. Also, is it claps ? I thought it was tap dancing shoes ??
Re: Vaa vaa..sounds like an old song because of the banjo.
One thing I noticed is all sounds are sequenced/keyboards. I think it is part of a strategy to differentiate based on sound !!!. Yuvan is consistently demonstrating that he understands the new POP format very well. He is also demonstrating that he is adept in using new technology. The mix is done very well without any noticeable bad use of reverb/echo (atleast to an amateur like me). Its okay if the sounds are old I would prefer new people (for that matter anbybody) to concentrate on the melody and composition.
(ye ye kechu kileye - what movie is that ?)
