Hi,
I need some suggestions from you guys. I am doing some programs in a local radio station which has alloted time for Tamil programs. The problem is that I need to do it live. My last program wasn't very satisfactory to me. I am trying to find a way to record it if possible in a CD and then broadcasting them. I am not much familiar with music recording. All I have ever done is upload a few of my compositions through real producer with the crude mike one uses for chatting (but which nevertheless sounds better to me than the live relay from radio). I don't have any intention of building a mini studio or anything of that sort. What are the options available for me to record music with a computer ? Is there any free downloads of music software ? I appreciate any suggestions from you.

Jay,
I am listening to your song now.. just a curious question and this is certainly not any insinuation(or critisism).. but have you listened to "killer" by Adam ski or seal. Some very miniscule rhytm progession of your songs "broken" resembles it. any comments!

Seal? you mean the "Kiss from a Rose" guy? if so, never heard that track.

Visvesh, if you want to write a CD, you need a CD writer. If you buy a CD writer it usually comes with enough software to record and edit .wav files. You capture your narration as .wav files and rip the songs you want to play off of from CDs, now using the software you can make one .wav file and you can make a CD with single track which will play continuously. If you do not have the songs on CD you can record them from the line out of a tape deck. Except that this way it will be noisy. My CD writer came with a DC Art Audio restoration software to reduce the noise in these sort of recordings. The best thing is if you do not have a song on CD, ask people here for a mp3 file which can be converted to wav file again.
(I just want to help somebody who is going to spread thEmadhura thamizhOsai :) )

yes! the "kiss from a rose" guy. George michael also released his version of "killer/papa was a rolling stone" in his 5 live E.P
but on 2nd and third listening of ur song I have changed my mind... there is a slight resemblence but no big deal...

Jay:
Fantastic!...good variations in the phrases. I liked the combination of instruments. Titles of ur songs sound agony - but honestly the music isn't that melancholic:-) they sound juvenile and energetic. I appreciate the way u selected the instruments. I enjoyed this piece of music completely - I would rate it as ur best so far - but I can see that it's only a beginning. Good Job Jay!
Regards,
Aditya

jay good job man, better musical clarity!, nice smooth drum pattern, surprising interludes, I liked it, way to go
also the fall picture in your page is really awesome!...nice colors, as aditya says i would change the title! to something like
"a positive variation"
or if it was me i would name it "a postive thougth" :)

Thanks..glad you guys liked the song. Yeah Its true I havent done justice to the title. I sort of started off with a a very sad mood originally..
but things went another way. :) the name sticked on..

Jay very nice job. Good job on mixing and techno - ambience stuff that works so well with the Triton . Do you use on-board sequencer? What tools do you use for mixing?
- From: Jay. (@ 209.10.124.134)
on: Fri Oct 19 14:53:55 EDT 2001
Thanks Swamiji. Yes I use the onboard sequencer.
Let me put it this way...Everything is done on the Triton and recorded
directly. Its an SNG. I use cakewalk to do the recording..and I have just an ever-so-present
SoundBlaster card. No mixing done on PC.
Very basic. But works.

Kiru,
Thanks. My question was slightly different. I wanted to know if I can digitally record through the computer a background rythm pattern, say from a guitar or keyboard, some lead sequence and vocals from an input device like a mike and put them simultaneously together as a ram or .wav file. I am not ripping any existing song from a CD, but playing the musical arrangements of my compositions. I hope you understand what I mean and if time permits, please let me know your suggestions.

I got hold of fruityloops - which is a music making sw like cakewalk. I'ld like to learn some basics of using it. Is there anybody in sfo bay area who can help me out this?

I know cakewalk, but not Fruity loops. Is Fruity a sequencer too? I have been thinking it is loop editor. BTW I live in bay area, but I am not sure if I can help much.
I have uploaded/renamed all my MIDIs at
http://members.tripod.com/kishmu/MIDI/midi.html
I am sure most of you would have heard them.

Haris and Swamiji:
FruityLoops has graduated from a level of loop editor to a more serious music creation tool. You will be surprised with it's features. I wouldn't consider it to be a pro tool as cakewalk/cubase line of products. But it's a worth to try. I am sure u won't regret using it. Infact as a demo, try out what I did with fruityloops - you will probably develop a good opinion on it...this is a raintheme song which was completely done on fruityloops but for recording some phrases live from other keyboards and other natural instruments like veena.

listen to raintheme.
I can be of some help but i don't live in bay area:-) Anyway let's see if time permits we can exchange some mails on using this cool software.

Aditya

Hi Guys:
I have Composed and performed a new song on my Triton. Before I started experimenting anything new, I wanted to sincerely give a try on the feel of traditional indian music style back in 1960s. This involved sampling some indian percussion instruments like dholak and tabla. I wanted to do it myself rather than using Commercially available off the shelf samples. I am thankful to the percussionists who gave me the samples with patience. They were beginners ( learnt back in india and not practiced much later ) and so they said they can help me in making of the samples and i had to play the rhythm loops myself. Now I understand it. This was done a couple of months back. Please take a look at

goto folder music.
Listen to "Song".
Whenever u have time, listen and ur comments are welcome.
More music is on it's way...

Aditya
