Lately I have had some private appreciative mails from fans/enthusiasts of P Susheela for my views on PS. Please be advised that I write these pieces from thoughts that arise during the listening time capsule of her renderings over the years. Anyone who agree (s) or disagree (s) or prefer to be mute with my writings, please share them with the TFM pages for respective artiste(s), rather than in a private mail to me. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

rk,
Enindha iravu enindha nilavu is from Puthiya pathai (old). A nive song.
Shafa,

Rgpm Sundar:
Shafa is probably someone looking for some rare
English golden oldies. He probably tried google
with the keywords "rare goldies". Try this on
Google and see what you get as the top hits. :)

Saravanan,
One song lingers in my memory..Ellam avan seithathu..pasuncholai indha ulagum...sung by KJY and Ithink Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi. Terribly beautiful song. Raga apart, composed brilliantly. Must be S.Rajalakshmi herself. Film Appothey sonneney kettiya. Correct. Any idea of this song?

Rgpm Sundar:
Thanks for reminding a very nice song which I have
not heard for more than 20 years! I think the MD
was kunnakkudi. But I am not sure.
- From: Rgpm Sundar (@ 61.11.78.86)
on: Fri Sep 13 10:37:03 EDT 2002
Sk,
Very nice that you responded. MD definitely cannot be Kunnakkudi.
Saravanan,
Any thread on the genius of SMS opened early? If not why dont you do it now. Recently I heard his Andru ninaithom atharkku uzhaithom from Raja veettu pillai. Excellent indeed.
- From: kik (@ 207.0.105.173)
on: Fri Sep 13 23:20:40 EDT 2002
Rgpm Sundar: It is indeed by S. Rajalakshmi. It's available in either the Ninaivalaigal album released in her memory or in KJY's 70s hits album on INRECO.
- From: Saravanan (@ 213.42.1.172)
on: Sat Sep 14 00:14:50 EDT 2002
R Sundar,
I am sorry I saw your query just now.
Ellam avan seithathu, pasuncholai, ilamalargal--' - Yes,that lovely song is, as you have said, from Appothey Sonneney Kettiya (1979). Music by Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi. But the song is sung by KJY and VJ.
I think the film starred Jaiganesh.
- From: sk (@ 137.132.3.9)
on: Sat Sep 14 00:40:36 EDT 2002
kik:
Do you have that song with you? Is it possible for
you to encode it and send it to me?
I also remember a kjj song (with kunnakkudi's music)
which came in the 70's.. but I am unable to recall
the beginning lines. Can anyone recall it?
- From: kik (@ 207.0.105.205)
on: Sat Sep 14 23:00:31 EDT 2002
sk: Yes I can encode it and send it - will have to play with mp3 settings since Yahoo permits only 1.5Mb for attachments. Give me a couple days.
- From: sk (@ 202.156.2.7)
on: Sat Sep 14 23:53:10 EDT 2002
kik:
An alternative is to put it in yahoo briefcase
if you have a yahoo id and send me the file
details. In that case there is no need to do
efficient encodings.
- From: sk (@ 202.156.2.7)
on: Sun Sep 15 01:25:25 EDT 2002
Sundar & Saravanan:
vAmanan's thirai isai alaigaL doesn't mention
anything about 'appOdhE sonnEnE kEyyiyA' when
discussing Soolamangalam R. Perhaps he missed
it.
- From: Saravanan (@ 213.42.1.166)
on: Sun Sep 15 03:02:26 EDT 2002
sk-
You are right, I remember that Sri. Vamanan had inadvertently omitted to mention this in his write-up on SR.
- From: kik (@ 207.0.105.157)
on: Sun Sep 15 21:54:00 EDT 2002
sk: I do have a briefcase, but people have been having problems accessing it. In fact, there are a bunch of VJ songs in directory songs2 (id - kishorekca). Can you check if you can access? BTW, don't you need a yahoo id too?
Vamanan has left out a number of details on different artistes (e.g. his listing of movies for P Bhanumathi is incomplete) - he wasn't aiming to be comprehensive, was he? It was the first such attempt and I'm sure he would correct in a second edition if such a thing were to come out and if he becomes aware of the blanks. Does anybody know how much of this series is in print? I have thirai isai alaigal (vol 1), papanasam sivan's tamil film songs, bharathidaasan's tamil film songs, and a book on lyricists.
- From: sk (@ 137.132.3.9)
on: Sun Sep 15 22:08:51 EDT 2002
kik:
I tried kishorekca. But I am not able to see the
folders. Did you make the VJ directory public?
Another option is to go to your folder, tick the
songs you want to send and email it to individual
addresses. Try sending the VJ songs to my email id.
I believe 'thirai isai alaigaL - Vol 2' has also
come out. But I haven't seen it.
- From: kik (@ 207.0.105.157)
on: Sun Sep 15 22:26:29 EDT 2002
sk: It is public - may not be accessible if you don't have yahoo also. BTW, just sent you an email with (link to?) aanaa kaanaa from sri kanchi kamakshi by VJ, MSV. Let me know if it works.
- From: sk (@ 137.132.3.9)
on: Sun Sep 15 22:39:03 EDT 2002
kik:
Yes, I got the file details by email. I am downloading it.
If you have more VJ/other songs, can you send them too?
Thanks.
- From: sk (@ 137.132.3.9)
on: Sun Sep 15 22:53:21 EDT 2002
kik:
I listened to this 'aanaa kaanaa' song for the first time.
Thanks very very much for introducing me to it.
Interesting song! What is the movie situation?
The song is in some 'bits' at the beginning. Why?
- From: kik (@ 207.0.105.239)
on: Mon Sep 16 23:50:18 EDT 2002
sk: You're welcome. The bits in the beginning are actually there in the movie as well - the shot moves from the child singing the song to the people standing at the shrine and the goddess. The situation is the same as agara muthala ezhuthellaam (saraswathi sabatham): a child who is presumed to be dumb starts singing by the grace of Kamakshi. BTW, sending you the other links in that directory - these are all VJ songs from Navagraha naayaki, raajarishi.

sK,Kik,
What is that VJ,MSV in Kanchi Kamakshi? No. The MD of KK is K.S.Raghunathan alias HMV Raghu.
Has MSV done any film for KSG other than his Chithi?
- From: sk (@ 137.132.3.9)
on: Tue Sep 17 04:55:13 EDT 2002
kik:
Thanks a lot. I got all the songs!
RS:
I don't know about Kanchi Kamakshi. But MSV has done
movies for KSG:
uyirA mAnamA (remember 'kodiyil iraNdu malaruNdu'?)
mAlathi (remember 'kaRpanaiyO kai vandhadhO'?)
Of course, with TKR he did movies like kai koduththa dheivam
and kaRpagam for KSG.
Are you sure Chithi is by KSG?
- From: Rgpm S (@ 61.11.83.202)
on: Tue Sep 17 06:41:41 EDT 2002
SK,
Chithi is definitely by KSG. Yes Uyira maanama is by MSV. But Malathy I believe is by KVM. The song composition looks typical of KVM.
Sk, kik,Saravanan,
The female singer of Eliyorai thazhthi valiyorai vazhthum from Thai piranthal vazhi pirakkum (KVM) - is it R.Balasaraswathy or N.L.Ganasaraswathy? I heard in AIR announcing it NLG. Vamanan lists the song under RBS. Clarify.

R Sundar- definitely Ravvu Balasaraswathi. That golden voice can never be mistaken.

I wish I were in Chennai! I haven't seen the movie.
I have heard that the hero of the movie, MK Radha
did a great job in acting. Tha last scene sword fight
was very popularly talked about those days, it seems.

It's a remake of a Hollywood film titled The Corsican brothers, itself a picturization of a novel of the same name by Alexandre Dumas. It was later remade by MGR with J as neerum neruppum. Story - very ordinary. Twins separated at birth grow up in the forest and in the city. Forest envies city. They love the same woman - she loves city. Finally forest reforms and dies. The songs are good - esp P Bhanumathi's songs.

Saravanan,
This song...Malargalil Raja azhagiya roja...sung by Mallika-Dhanasekharan duo for Veettu Mappillai MD N.S.Thiagarajan. Any idea about this MD who gave us such a lilting melody. How Dhanasekharan's voice resembled exactly AMR? The same duo sang one more in Aseervatham (where we had songs like Vetkappada vendum ovvoru manitharum and Ammavum appavum rendu poonaigal both by M.s. Rajeswari). Pl. give some idea.

Two songs from film Ponmudi listed under rare goldies page are not working. I have not listen to these two songs for more than 40 years. I love to listen to them at least once. Kan
