Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

"I vaguely remember this film, another one of the low-profile, low-budget movies of the esrly 80's with IR's high-profile score"
:)
athukku reason irukku ... the producer of the film was pazha.karuppiah. Later he was the one, who organised the big function in karaikudi, where Kalaingar MuKa conferred the title of "Isaignani" to IR....

dear doubter and bb,
the story of INNN (Indru Nee Naalai Naan) is not easily digestable.
Jaishankar (elder) & srikumar are brothers.
Jaishankar marries Lakshmi (who likes Sivakumar before marriage and not sivakumar).
Sivakumar calls Lakshmi as 'Anni'.
Then, Sivakumar marries Sulakshana, gets a child.
Jaishankar/Lakshmi have no issues - Suddenly
Jaishankar dies - Lakshmi becomes vidow.
Now, Lakshmi sees differently towards Sivakumar and sivakumar accepts that - starts living with Lakshmi whom he was calling ' Anni' till yesterday. (at this juncture, the song of the day comes - ponvanam).
When Sulakshana comes to know this relationship, she tries to kill Lakshmi, Sivakumar tries to stop it and in between the 'arivaal' from Sivakumar kills Sulakshana and Sivakumar goes to jail and waiting for his 'thookku-th-thandanai.
Lakshmi comes to see Sivakumar in the Jail. Sivakumar tells Lakshmi to get marry and proceed happily to which Lakshmi says no and commits suicide in front of Sivakumar.
Now Sivakumar says ' Indru Nee Naalai Naan' (title of the movie)

But for the songs - of which Ponvaanam was the stand-out number - the novel (By CA Balan) and the film were both completely illogical and pointless. IRs music was the only redeeming feature in this hopeless, paeththal exercise.

That was an interesting piece of info. Thanks.
There are n no. of movies like this which went unnoticed, either due to lack of quality or poor marketing. Sadly the music score for some of them too went unnoticed!

bb- great song. IR-SJ magic at work!
Nagarajan-one small correction-Jai and Sivakumar are not brothers. Sivakumar is like a loyal servant, who calls Jai 'Annan'.
One more good song, apart from the two already mentioned,is 'Mottu vitta mullaikoodi'-SJ-SPS. Another jolly song is 'Maapillai nalla pillai'-SPB-SPS.
I remember, being lured by the songs (Vilambarathaarar nigazhchi in Vividh Bharathi- I remember how the announcer used to say 'Geethakamalam Movies allikkum "Indru Nee Naalai Naan ", with a pause between Indru Nee and Naalai Naan") and going to watch this film in an almost empty Plaza theatre in Chennai. My friends, whom I persuaded to accompany me, didn't forgive me for months after
watching it!

dear bb,
i request tfm to put three songs on friday,
one for the day and the other two for the weekends.

on: Sat Sep 28 08:28:44 EDT 2002
I have a different suggestion. From Monday to Friday, five songs are posted as the "song of the day". Why don't we vote for the best out of the five and let that song be the "song of the week" for the weekend.
Similarly, we can have song of the month and song of the year.
Hopefully, this won't turn into MSV-IR-ARR who-is-better selection. :)

Great selections..
nilavE ennidam, sivasankari and pon vaanam panneer!
Nagarajan:
Interesting to read about Indru nee naaLai naan
story.
A case of a great song in a sick movie!
At the end, after Sivakumar says 'indru nee naaLai
naan', Major Sundararajan vandhu 'Today you, Tomorrow I'
endru solliyiruppaarE? :)

yErkanave niraiya polls ellam irukku. SOTD ipdiye irukkatume :-) We try to give through SOTD some of the rarest and great numbers. Though some of the sources (sivasankari and yaaradhu sollaamal nenjaLLi pOvadhu) may be from outside, I think this is one way to continue exposing DFers to some great stuff.

I understand your fear MS. :)
It's just that weekends tend to get a little quiet around here.
Anyway, Sivasankari was simply great. What a song.
If you can, please find Chinnanchiriya vanna paravai ennathai solluthamma by TMS and SJ and use it for one SOTD? Please? :)
I hope you will not say that you don't want SOTD to become SROTD. :)

Friends,
A few months back, one Mr Veerayya, a veteran production organiser in TF industry, had written his 'malarum ninaivugaL' in ThugLak. He had written about ' indRu nee naalai naan!'. It was written by CA Balan (of 'thookku mara nizhalil'novel fame). One scene was shot with a bearded Sivakumar in jail, holding his child! The senior police officer in charge of the jail requested that his own child be taken in the film! The child cried like hell , scared at Sivakumar's 'dhaadi, meesai'!
The film was a family production of Major and this particular song, I think, was directed by Major himself.

Algorithm or not, ARR has done a wonderful job. The song begins with a strange fusion of violin and sitar and progresses into a nice finale.
The extensive usage of sitar without tabla is also refreshingly new. A song that sounds very good in the early mornings or late nights.
Pity the movie was almost a non-entity.

Netru IllAtha MAtram was a very refreshing number by ARR, well-orchestrated and well-sung.
I too loved the unusual use of sitar, especially the use of sympathetic strings. It gives a nice resonance.

musicfan,
bb is following a transliteration which is correct as English doesnt have characters to represent that sound.
The RR in NeRRu represents the Tamizh Tra better than the notation in Netru.
PS:
To hear how to pronounce Tra, listen to SJ's 'kAtril Endhan Geetam' from Johny or 'Then MERkku paruvak kAtru' from kaRuthamma.
To hear how NOT to pronounce 'Ra', listen to Bombay Jayshree's 'ATraith ThingaL... ORRai... koRRa poigai' portion of Iruvar's 'NaRumugayE' song.

Kamal and 'If tomorrow comes ?', I doubt if Kamal would have agreed to do a heroine oriented story like that ... (Ofcourse, its possible if the director asks him to do the lady role also ;-)
Cinema Virumbi,
I didn't read / understood the info you gave - mannichchudungo sir !
