IR' other songs that have the similar style, orchestration, mood and original melody as:
1.Thiruththeril Varum Silay (mindboggling prelude for thsis song thoughZ);
2. Meghame Dhoothakava ()
3. Kurinji Malarin (azhagey unnai aaradhikirene)
4. Oru Kaadhal Devadhai (saayandatamma sayandadu)
anyone noticed the same feel to these 4 songs?
Just like another 3 songs of IR: (these, all with MVasudevan - extremely popular in the early 80s in radio srilanka)
Pani Vizhum Poon Nilavil (karumbu vil)
Nee Illaadha Podhu Yengum (ilamai kolam)
Kaalanagal Mazhai Kaalangal (?)
Malargaliley Aaradhanai (karumbu vil?)

Song of the Day: Vaanam arugil oru vaanam from Nyaayath Tharaasu.

MD: SG. Sung by KJY. I just love this song. I think this is one of SG's best, if not the best. Unfortunately, I don't think this album or this song did very well, and SG were not able to come back with this song.

- This film is a remake of the malayalam movie Panchagni, I think. Radha and NizhalgaL Ravi starred in this one.

bb- good song. S-G's career was already on the wane when NT-1989 came up. It was producer M Veda who stood by them- they gave wonderful music in Veda's next venture as well-Idhaya Thaamarai-1990.
Refreshing lyrics by Vairamuthu- (arugil vandha megam thalaithuvatti pogum!) One more song which I remember is Mano's 'Vennila' for Charlie and friends. The film had dialogues by Kalaignar and a wonderful, restrained performance by Radha, who too was on her way out from tf- Sigaram being her memorable swansong.

Song of the Day: NilavE ennidam nerungaadhE from Ramu.

- A great song sung by PBS. When SPB was asked by MSV to sing for voice testing, he apparently sung this song (there is a version sung by SPB in the SPB sings other songs collection).
- On PBS: http://www.newtfmpage.com/my/singer/pbs.html
An active thread: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/11570.22.12.48.html
- raagam baagEshri.
- An initial bit was sung by PS.
- PBS apparently remarked that he couldn't sing 10% of what MSV sang and showed him.
- this is one of the nila songs: http://www.newtfmpage.com/forum/23061.15:21:31.html

PBS apparently remarked that he couldn't sing 10% of what MSV sang and showed him
Actually none of the singers, by susheela's confession, did 'justice' to the tunes of MSV. She had broken down in the recording twice into tears, she remarked, after she found herself unable to reproduce what MSV had sung to her. MSV is supposedly an amazing singer giving as many variations as possible, only a fraction of which was delivered in his songs including the ones she sang. So I am kind of not very surprised by PBS' stmt. What defeats my imagination is how beautiful this (or any other great song) could have been if only it had been delivered with all the flavour that MSV wanted through the great voices of PBS/PS/KJY/PS.

- A complex classical number by Seergazhi Govindarajan. Very tough to sing, hindustani style, and he has done a great job.
- raagam dharbari kAnadA.

The prelude of this song just blows me away every time I listen to it. MD: IR. Sung by SJ. I think this movie was directed by Major Sundararajan, and *ed Sivakumar.

Talking about this song.. you won't believe it. It happened two weeks back.. I thought of writing it.. Then i forgot it.. I got into my car. Barely i hit the free way i switched on the CD player..
"Pon Vaanam Panneer Thoovudhu" song started.. First drop of rain fell on my wind shield next second. Call it a coincidence. It happened. But the song was awesome when you listen to it when it rains. This is another Master piece from SJ.

PonvAnam is one of my all-time favorites of SJ-IR combination.
Wow! What a wonderful composition in Gowri Manohari! The immensely enjoyable (and long)prelude instantly brings in the feeling of the first rain of the season.. The lyrics are well.. lyrical (BTW, who penned the song?), drawing comparison between rain and the celebration of the charater's sensual feeling. Both the stanzas and the interludes are mindblowing and makes you listen to it over and over again... SJ brings out the subtle sensuality very well in her mellifluos rendition.
The movie starred Sivakumar, Lakshmi and Sulakshana (playing her sister who later becomes the 2nd wife).. I vaguely remember this film, another one of the low-profile, low-budget movies of the esrly 80's with IR's high-profile score. This song as well as another one 'Mottu vitta mullaikkodi macchAn thotta manjakkiLi Vekkappattu sokki nikkudu' were perhaps the only bright spots in an otherwise sombre mood of the film.
If not for attempts like these, today's generation may not get to appreciate such classics! Hats off to you the newtfmpage/Dhool team!
