I have been listening to Tamil film music for so long and even though i'm 22, I can only relate to IR's music. I can appreciate the old MDs but it kind of ends there. I tried listening to others and it wears off on the 1st listen. Hindi music is even worse(except for the old ones).
So far Ilayaraja sir is the only one who can sustain quality and innovation. Why aren't there any other true composers out there for a population of more than 1 billion? It's really scary to think of a world without the music of IR. It's even scarier to think of all the bad songs/incidental music we are getting non-stop from all the present wannabees. Only God knows how long this will continue.
For a population of more than 1 billion it's really incredibly amazing that we don't see any other good composers. Will we?

Dear purv,
Thanks for laying my life roadmap. But unlike the tons of useless MDs in IFM, i'd rather not unless i know i can give something original.

i do agree that IR is great....its u that fails to recognise others...but i do recognise and have my personal favourite...just like i cannot influence ur opinion u cannot influence mine...its upto a persons likes and dislikes...leave that alone
and looks like u have jumped to the comclusion that i am the only person whose posting against..?? practice before u start preaching...

Outsider and others,
Read my posts carefully. I did mention that I tried listening to others and it wears off on the 1st listen. So pls don't accuse me wrongly. My mind is never closed to only one person. The sad state of TFM is such.
On another diggressing note, I've noticed some people here commenting good on MSV and ARR but turn another cheek when it comes to IR. This is totally impossible. For a person who can take MSV's music but can't appreciate IR's but yet again liking ARR's does not make any logic at all. Doesn't make sense too. I really don't know why some people can't take the success of IR. That's not important. What's more important is that they can't take the ingenuity of IR in successfully composing melodius music time after time for the last 27 years. Why is that so? Why are they not acknowledging there's one true genius who 27yrs ago gave Annakilli and 27yrs later gave a whole album SuperHit Manasellam.
Really fail to comprehend this.

Knip, I undestand your feelings well.
It has become a fashion for people to claim as an ARR fan ang talk as if IR does not exist. Other day, I read somewhere that Dheena, MD for many serials saying that he is influenced by MSV and ARR. Nothing can be farther from truth. You can be true ARR fan, I agree. But you can't be lover of both MSV and ARR but not IR. These peple are just anti-IR and they utilize every opportunity to insult IR.

Coming to Mansellam, just listen to the "ilamai thullal" oin "Iniya Nadhi" song! I don't belive that an MD, at the age of 59, can produce such a fflamboyant tune. Unfortunately, "Manasellam" is not even considred in Top 10 of many count downs. This tells you how biased all these count downs are!

Let me say this. I didn't start listening to Tamil music because of IR. I started listening to Tamil music because of Deva and ARR. I'm sure IR has written some fine tunes, however I don't find IR's music as compelling as others.

sam,
is it on the AD?
anyway, IR is genius, super genius...he cant be inspired from this AD, it could be only coincidence, or may be those ppl have watched Sethu and lifted the TUNE from IR...

Paran the song is on the ad, when u played the ad yo would have heard the clip from Sethu BGM. IR didn't copy it from them as the advert was only screened about 2 weeks back.

rrramm, as I have told people before, IR is not appealing to me. Why should he be? Just because he's written alot of music or has been around for a long time? That is not my definition of a good MD. I stand by what I said and I mean it.

outsider,
Two things; one is the 'taste' and the other is 'what exactly we expect from a film music' and nothing more. Openions and definitions can always differ based on these two...

And Mr. Knip (Pink), once IR is gone, there's sure to be someone else that's going to take his place. GOD never leaves any vacuum. He always puts something else in place. :-)

Dhak Dhak Karne Laga -- Beta (1992) - Hindi

Relevance to outsider = 0

knip,
yeah ur rite MSV has made an impact one me.....so has ARR....but IR hasnt
since my father happens to be a MSV fan i have heard MUCH more MSV songs than i have of IRs....and ofcourse being in the present generation it wud be ridiculous to say i havent lisetened to ARR....i have listened to very few IR songs when compared to the other two and im not lying by any means....nor do i need to....the songs of IR which i listened to din kindle any deep interest in IR and its stayin where it is.....thats the matter....im not anti-IR

There is no point comparing a genious like IR with others not in the same class pals....the answer is, it is going to take quite some time for some one to produce music as good and as fast as he has done. Yes, like someone said in this thread that GOD does not leave any vacuum but he always creates a one like Beethoven,Mozart-Music,and respective fields and IR is in that league.

Yah but the great Arsenal kicked MU out of the FA cup at their own soil in the qtr finals and last year lifted the Championship again by beating MU on their own soil....not forgetting Liverpool poosurran an egg on Fergie in the League cup final.

Yes, Ganapathy V., true. It is a rare ability to be able to come up with a whole soundtrack in a half-hour. I know I couldn't do it. I could, at most, handle three songs a day, maybe four on a really good day.

Why some people worry that small kids like Dheena doesn't mention IR ? We have already seen such guys ( like Dheena ). The best example is a MD named Adityan. He is now cooking some recipes for Jaya TV :-)
