Hi guys,
I am going to india soon.If you want to show your disapproval against ARR's plagiarism please do reply to this new thread which I will eventually print and give it to ARR personally so that he realises that people are not dumb and listen to his fancy copying of music from abroad and boast himself as a musician.
Even his latest much talked "Vande matram" has one songs which has direct lift of a tune from Madonna's latest "FROZEN".
I don't know how he thinks that he can get away with these fancy copying.I think it is time for us to show him that we are not dumb.

To the Great Folks in this Forum, including Ravi, Sathya Keerthi, Udaya, Bharat (for once Not Bhaskar!), Srikanth, Krishan. Nice to see you all here in one of the most entertaining discussion threads and thanks to Balaji:
Before I pour out my kind feelings of the various other outpourings, I wish to please point out to you guys that we have some alien intruders. Guys, did you see Triple X, I mean that visitor, X XX, I think it is X Cube, and also we have a Horowitz, (surely not mistaken for a relative of the great conductor) both in support of the favorite music dispenser machine, Mr. ARR. So, we have to be a little discrete in our kind support for Mr. ARRrrrrrr......
Now, please give me a minute or so to make my humble statements. Our Nanbar, Mr. Sathya Keerthi whose comments I genuinely welcome, has raised a finger at some of the query threads.
Our esteemed Sathya is of the belief, we are all only giving advice or valuable suggestions in the forum to improve the corporate performance of Shri Illaiyaraja, and not actually sent him or gone in person to offer our comments and suggestions to the great Soul. Writing? Practicable, but visiting or showing up in front of the Maestro? Those were the days. These days, if you tried it, you can thank your Stars that you were atleast able to argue with the Isaignani' secretaries, assistants, watchman and adhukku appuram yedathai kKali pannurudhan budhisaalithanam.
Coming to the point, I am perhaps one of the few fans on this ceiling of this vast galaxy to zip out from the US to 38 Thayagaraga Nagar my heartfelt wishes, thanks, suggestions and prayers. One of my prayers has been to plead to the Isaignani to please stop this filmi koothu and do more non-filmy albums, I also sneaked in one major point: if you (Maestro) are doing such albums please also release them.
This letter writing is a kind of a quarterly ritual or yagna I perfrom. I only stop short of performing Paalabhishekam on the letters I send. Whether the Isaignani reads them or not is a matter that I will soon question and call my travel agent to get me to 38 Thyagaraja Nagar, Chennai 600 017. However, I hope Satya is satisfied to know that here is one genuine fan of the Isaignani who has not only spent time participating in this super forum, but has also have put most of his own bs into practice and it is perhaps 15 years since I did this in earnest.
By the By, I hope you folks do not mind this long, self-revelling input from me, because as I said earlier, any discussion on ARR is great fun and I am really laughing with water running down my eyes and nose. (Some creepy cold weather in this summer time here in Chicago!)
Regards

Hi XXX,
Good that you criticized my thread.I think it shows that I am ardent fan of IL and probably you might be of ARR.It doesnt matter coz I am not comparing ARR and IL.
OK.I am wrong. And agree that MAdonna all the way listened to our Indian music and copied from it.( Semma joke)
In one the threads in TFM somebody had brought a VM review in The STAR magazine at malaysia.which is
"Rahman's disillusionment with the film fraternity is something that is well-documented and debated. He has always felt
he was carrying his film assignments under various pressures. Rahman is known to be selective in his work and
consumes a lot of time to come up with his compositions. Vande Mataram, he hopes, will appeal to a wide range of
listeners.
"It is different from what people like (but) they will like it because it has got an inherent soul in it. Mostly, I (take on
jobs) which I like but sometimes due to lack of time, or something that happens along the way, the albums are prevented
from realising their potential."
Look at the way ARR is talking. He says that he needs time to create genuine. Why can't he accept the fact that he had sat with few bunch of western CD's and lifted all catchy tunes and formed a new piece of song.
If U copy be bold and accept it one way or the
other (nobody is a fool to accept it directly) like deva who said "enakku kelvi gnanam thaan" (adhai avar solli than
namakku theriyanuma) . If ARR had accepted that (at least indirecly and given some original ,good numbers , mind U ,
atleast one beat in his songs are copied from some english songs ) I 'd like him atleast for his honesty . He said in one of
the interviews that he hasn't listened to ace of the base at all and it's just a coincidence that the same tune came in
telephone manipol !!!
I am not comparing IL with ARR.He is not worthy to be compared with IL.
I just want the fact that ARR shld accept that he is lifting some tunes from others.
Hi Ramesh,

Dear Sirs and Madames of India,
ARR seems to have started loosing his clourful feathers, i must confess, though he may be good at copying music but are'nt nearly all music directors guilty of that. Anyhow I believe He doent deserve the astounding credibility India has given him, he is another M.D with just a different style

Hi Balaji,
You are talking as though Raja has not lifted scores... man there are plenty.. I can start pointing..
Raja was one of the first to lift from western
in priya...
Later he had pulled out lot of scores of Bach , Chopin I can go on.
The how to name it album 50% is bach's score. Raja as arranged his own scores with Bach's
The famous song in Vikram En jodi manjakurivi ..
lifted 100% Duches and dirt water fox.
The Potkul potalum song in Chatiryan (Tamil)
Lifted from Sound of Music ..this tune was also used in Malayalam film Yaatra.
I can dig out more scores.. My intention is not
that...so do just blame AR alone. This copying tradition has been in the field for a long time..
I cannot think of a song MSV copied or lifted..
(MSV once told I would rather compose a dum tune rather copying someones score.)

This thread makes me wonder: what if ARR and Ilayaraja interchanged styles? Would there still be a ruckus just because ARR's supporters in this forum are not as vocal as IR's?
I remember a song from "Aathma", composed by IR, that Kasthuri sings... I think it starts with "Ninaikindra Paadhayil". Though I'm not so sure about the lyrics, I remember the tune well enough to recall why it made me think it was ARR's. It was an extremely synth-based song, even the "flutes" in the interludes sounded "Rahman"ish.
I wonder if there's anyone else who's felt this way about that song. When I later realized that it was IR's song, I was really shocked. But the point is that this could be an instance of IR being "inspired" by ARR.
Of course, all of the above will no doubt paint me as an ARR-camp guy, when in reality I grew up with IR's music. What is so wrong in taking out something that an MD feels is good (in someone else's music) and incorporating that in his own?

Hi pals,
have you got the moral of the story?! it is..... (I reinstate!) whether ARR inspired by IR or IR inspired by ARR, MSV inspired by KVM or vice versa!, music is liked by everyone as long as it is good. It may (sound)feel ARRish or IRish or MSVish. Jab tak 'chaltha hai' apna MD's chala lenge. BTW , I know our ARR won't like the 'chalta hai' attitude (he is very serious!, pl. read another thread about ARR's kutti interview). But he himself chala ra ha hai! (sorry for mixing Hindhi here!, I cann't help it when I talk about ARR!)

Hi Srikanth,
Then why shld ARR take such a long time to compose music for a single film.If he is going to lift the tunes from others then why does he take long to finish it off?Isn't he smart as he claims himself?
