Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

Hi Eshaan
This is a update from boxofficeindia.com about the music sales.
As far as music sales are concerned for 2003,the year has belonged to three films Tere Naam,Qayamat and Andaaz.Koi Mil Gaya also recorded good sales but that was due to the film being the biggest success of the year by far which enabled the music to have extra sales while the film was doing good business but the other three continue to have decent sales even though the films have finished their runs.Musical disappointments of the year were Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon,Kal Ho Na Ho and LOC Kargil although they had reasonable sales, they were below expectations considering the banners and hype.
Notice that two of them had Kumar Sanu in it who dominated the album. We hope that SEL is keeping all these in mind in choosing the singers and fans wishes for future.
thanks
Somu

somu ,
Choice of singers alone is not the thing that decides the success .
Further there is no guarantee that these statistics are correct !!!
thirdly it is purely left to the MD to choose a singer is based on his instincts

I feel KS's voice wudnt suit the kinda music SEL composes... It jus doesnt have that youthful zing to it... And when u have that kinda voice as well as the Z factor in Shaan's voice, Shaan is the better choice anyday.
Entirely my opinion.. NOM to anyone.

From the Khaleej Times (30.12.03)- KHNH finds place among the 10 best albums of 2003. The review says:
'S-E-L came up with some really decent scores in Ek Ayr Ek Gyarah & Armaan. Both bombed. But with KHNH, the trio had arrived.
With Sonu Nigam taking the title song to a plane of passion and pain, the album moves from mood to mood, genre to genre, leaving one breathless with anticipation. The music played a vital role in making the film what it was.'
Best wishes for the New Year, Ehsaan!

no offense to SEL or any hindi movie lovers: but i think hindi songs sound absolutely boring these days trying to be hollywood and sounding english. hindi is hindi not english nowhere can it sound enlish or western, beleive me and the war movies with those mechanical dialogues motionless expressions i feel it is no use pretednin to be western. it is like watching Japanese cooking shows on Food Network or martial arts films with the noisy background of shrieks etc.. Look at Bachchan these days, no perspective on what films he should inspire, hasn't come out of his mere angane mein days, man. what about that crappy devgan, from where which pothole has he surfaced from, god only can save the Bollywood.
hindi music survived on pure melody even though creativity was quite lacking, i even enjoyed bappi lahiri more than rdburman, whose mechanical rhythms and stale style soon overpowered his substance.
if hindi film music has got to make sense, stop making hindi sound english and also mechanical and heroic (which sound very european but dull), make songs straightforward, if you can't do Ilayaraja or Tamil films like interludes, make it Rahman like without being boring and slow like him. Cut to the chase, Ehsaan, forget the frills and laces. chop, chop, buddy.
Just get the tune straight and set the mood/emotion, the style and the theme - without sounding parochial - you have to feel international as much as you can if mean Bollywood is for Hollywood market, if it is that. forget all those instrumental passages, makes no sense at all to me. Advise you to watch soem sphagetti western themes or bond movies. I mean someday we got to all accept the fact and converge somewhere, right?

I also meant the alapanas like Rahman style just give one headaches too much. why mix hindustani with western when it just feels pretentious. Hindi films made an impact with melodious songs for great actors, great comedy, neatly told family dramas. but today (except for the likes of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge) these elements are not there and hindi films cannot reinvent and I doubt cannot go past NRIs, who by the way are now returnin home and mostly refuse to watch local films locally ;---) I don't know if I am right or wrong, but i watched Mohabattein, Asoka and Company and to this day I wonder what hit me on my head to make me sit thru those bilge. no offense, but is this audience today? if so, mediocrity has come back to take power.

I am Kavita from USA. Just got the Top40 song list from radiosargam. Kumar Sanu got 9 songs in it!!!. Please work with singers like him and Udit. Do not use Sonu Nigam, his voice is bad and he brings bad luck.

Guys guys guys..please stop it...
we can request a MD to use a certain singer...but we definitely have nor rights to ask them to stop using a singer....
MD's select singers based on the Director, Actor or situation, it's not just own preference.
anyway Ehsaan, how do u guys keep track of sales of your albums, do you guys get an update from a certain source or something?

Yes I do not give up. You three (SEL) are like Brahma/Vishnu/Maheswar to me. So I will keep on worshipping you and melt your hearts and one day you will use our favorite Kumar Sanu. I will remind you twice in a month about this. That day will be ultimate for the music lovers.
Also today I am sad by seeing the screen nominations (if that news is true). SEL and KS both are missing . How can they miss SEL when they gave KHNH and KNK in same year.
Sorry if I have hurt you in past.
thanks
Somu
