Shankar-Ehsan-Loy...maybe the only other MD with Bollywood roots also composing for TF....I was listening to their "Dil Chahta Hai"..except for the title track, all the other songs seem to meander around...but they are the only ones around in Bollywood who give a original techno touch to their music apart from ARR.
"Aalavandhaan" is their next big TF release...would like to hear your opinions on this trio.

Wow my fingers are hurting after that long typing session !!!!
Can someone let me know as to how Alavandhan is doing in TN ? Can you believe it we are the Md's and we havent been sent copies of the Tamil version. If someone knows how it is doing at shops like Landmark etc then we can get an idea.
Thanks
Ehsaan

Ehsaan,
If you're talking about "Thaesingu Raaja...Thanjavuru Raani" it's from "Dum Dum Dum" composed by Karthik Raja.

Ehsaan,
You are certainly sounding fresh. Good going.
Now that u liked Desingu raaja... i'm sure u'll like atleat a couple of others from DumDumDum. Karthik Raja sounded quiet fresh in this Mani Ratnam production.

Guys, after all this 'Indianness' discussion in ARR's and SEL's music, I feel there is something we have been missing in this forum. What defines 'Indianness' in music? I mean, take a look at some of the tunes ARR has put together - "theendai..." or even "strawberry kanne". I think newtfmpage as a forum has been consistently wrong to ARR. People accept SEL, I don't know why, because Ehsan came to this forum and people got to know him better? I think the end point of this discussion is that forget what ARR's 'Indianness' is, forget his poor BGMs and just give the credit that is due for this chap who if am not wrong has changed the face of the music in TFM and India and we in newtfmpage have thrown more dirt at this guy than anybody else. Guys, throw the HCIRF garb into the garbage and for a moment say "Well done, ARR". Because he deserves it.

Hello Ehsaan and the rest of TFM Fans
Check out this link which mentions about Alavandhan's music and it's role in the movie:

kiru,
I am neither confused nor manipulated your posting. After all I am listening to music for around 3 decades and visiting this forum for couple of years. Anyway thanks for your remarks. That is very positive. Keep it up.

Ehsaan, for your info Aalavandhan (the Tamil version) is doing great in Malaysia. My group of friends really love all the songs and we were among the first to get our hands on the audio cassetes when it was released.
There was a discussion in one of the Tamil radio channels here (THR Raaga) on the eve of the release and one of the panels said that "Although Aalavandhan's soundtrack did not bring forth a change in the trend of music as we all expected, it was nevertheless not a let down as well. The music is good and the songs have a class of their own."
The expectation over here were quite high, since Kamal Haasan is known as an actor who likes to experiment. Many here looked forward to S-E-L's music in Aalavandhan as an experimental project as well, and hoped for something different, perhaps like something Harris Jeyaraj pulled off in Minnale (the last time we heard a fresh new style in Tamil film music since ROJA would be Karthik Raaja's Ullasam)
So I guess for a maiden effort (in Tamil) you guys did a pretty decent job! Congrats!

As far as I know from my friends and relatives in Chennai (I'm in Bangalore), it was a initial knee-jerk reaction all along like mine! People said it went straight above their head and wondered why Kamal was forcing his prose reading on us! But I also understand that everyone would love to watch the movie and there's a lot of anticipation to Aalavanthaan thanks to Kamal's past track record in being superbly unique!
I'm sure once the movie's out and people see that the songs are very situational and have been composed with the script very specifically in mind, it would surely make a far more lasting impact. I really look forward to some good background music from SEL...particularly with a different theme like this.
Also, as Subash K Jha has mentioned in his interview of Abhay (in Indya.com) why is that Universal music carried Kamal's old songs from Sanam Teri Kasam et all in the side B of the hindi version? The tamil version's label, Magnasound seems very confident of the music while the hindi label is worried about its prospects?

Maran..I think the scope for a "Minnale" kind of songs is very limited in "Aalavandhaan"....where everything is tautly connected and written into the screenplay....

True cosmician, but a Kamal movie is a Kamal movie. We expected something NEW (this time perhaps we went a step further and expected this in music ALSO)
:) we never knew that "everything is tautly connected and written into the screenplay" until Ehsaan said so HERE did we? :)

Dear Ehsaan-Ji,
Alavandhan's songs has been great, technically. The entire album has distinctively Kamal's touch, especially in terms of the selection of songs. One poem recitation, one title clip, one jovial song and another 'duet' song. However, people here in Malaysia has expected somewhat different of you three great combo.
I, personally, expected that Alavandhan's music is going to create another unique phase of Indian music apart from the already 'dizzying' Rahman craze. Yet, Alavandhan is definitely NOT a bad album altogether. The choices of songs makes it stand tall in midst of Harris Jeyaraj's 12B and Majnu. Alavandhan songs itselves will be an added advantage to the movie.
Dil Chahta Hai -- one wonderful effort by S-E&L. Wish all of you best of luck. See you soon in cinemas.

Hi EHSAAN,
I HAVE HEARD THE DRUM LOOP OF 'ALAVANDHAN' TITLE SONG IN A DRUM MUSIC SOFTWARE.
IT SOUNDS THE SAME.
DO YOU USE ANY DRUM LOOPS FROM DR ALBAN'S CD LIKE ARR ?

HI EHSAAN,
I CAN MAKE A SOFTWARE THAT WILL USE MATHEMATICS TO PUT NEW NEW TUNES. IT USES DRUM LOOPS AND KEYBOARD.
ALL ARE UNIQUE.
IT EVEN PUT THE TUNE FOR "THANGA THAAMARAI MAGALAE" FROM 'MISARA KANAVU' (SAPNAY) BY ITSELF IN RANDOM.
YOU CAN SEND YOUR OPINIONS TO ME BY EMAIL : GMAURUTHI@HOTMAIL.COM

Hi Ehsaan,
I hope u r still online. One question I wanted to ask u ... in your earlier posts, u kept referring to ARR as a genius . can u kindly elucidate on this ? I mean, as a lay man, I do appreciate his music and consider it world class but really do not want to jump to a conclusion like 'genius' more so cuz I don't really understand the theory of music and how ARR has tweaked / changed/ innovated etc. For eg., I understand decent math and physics, and can really appreciate what Ramanujan / Feynman did and can comfortably put them in the 'genius' bracket. Though some knowledgeable forumers like Srikanth time and again do some explanation and call him a genius, now, yourself being a musician and an active and happening MD with diverse influences and backgrounds, can you let us know on what basis u have labelled ARR a 'genius' ? It would be really interesting to know. I hope you can come out with a big reply ( till ur fingers hurt :) ). I would also venture the same question about IR but am not sure if you have heard most of his classics.
Thanks.

Ehsaan:
Can u plese brief us on you trio's work in breathless ? I guess u were the ones who did the music for it. Both the tracks - breathless and the reprise - are breathtakingly sung by Shankar Mahadevan. Can u please, if possible, let us know how you proceeded with threcording ? these songs are singer's nightmares. Can u please comment on the bass track too since it is very impressive and uncovetional ?
thx
