Due to the hijacking of the thread by ARR detractors, a lot of useful discussions were sent to old responses. The purpose of this thread is to remove all extraneous postings of the original thread and stick to the topic. I sincerely hope that this thread will be allowed to continue without unnecessary comments.
All ARR detractors are kindly requested NOT To post in this thread.


What makes AR Rahman really special? Why does his music cause so much excitement and flurry? What is the difference that AR Rahman offers that no one else offers.
From his first movie Roja, ARR has caused a HUGE impact on listeners of popular Tamil songs.
Since then each of his movie and songs are closely inspected, loved, tasted and exalted.

Let us take his maiden song, Chinna chinna aasai. What sets this song apart from the 100s of songs of this genre?

Is it the new voice? Is is the impeccable music arrangement? Is it the haunting melody? Or is it just simply oozing of class?

  Arr has not made a film succeed rather has not helped the producers with his music. Well here is the list
  
  1. Roja(with a good direction but without his trend setting music this film could not have been a universal mega hit)
  
  2.Thiruda Thiruda(it was his music sales that helped the producer to compensate the films failure)
  3.Dilse/Uyire
  4. Kadal Desam
  5. Kadalar Dinam
  6. En Swasakatre
  7.Kadalan
  8. Jeans
  9. Duet
  10. Sangamam
  11. Alaipayuthey
  12. Minsara Kanavu
  13. Rangeela
  14. Taal
  15. Pudiya Mugam
  16. Rhythm
  etc ect. So many films helped the producers in a small 50 film career. Can u name some ir film of this genre where the audio sales and music helped the producers commercially. u need to be sportive and accept ur defeat rather than mindless argument

  Sangamam was a flop. Rhytma was a flop. En Swasakatre was flop. Dilse was flop. Thirda Thiruda was flop. Pudiya Mugam was flop. Roja didn't run for music. It was for great screenplay and the subject he handled. Don't forget Arvind Swamy and Madhubala. Minsara Kanavu was not a great success. Leave all ManiRatnam movies. They run anyway. In 10 years may be 2 or 3 movies. Don't give the list of movies he scored music for. Give me the list of successful movies!! Has he scored one classic like Salangai Oli, Sindhu Bhairavi,Payanangal Mudivathillai,Punnagai Mannan,

  The problem with ARR fans they are totally immature. Stupid and crappy songs like peta rap,
  shakalaka baby, ooh lala, .. lyrics were so stupid. This guy must be the least creative person on the earth. He recycles the same music again and again. or he copies.   Shankar Ganesh is a better MD than ARR. His songs and BGM are bearable compared to this "sori" ARR.
  If we give marks to each MD in TFM.

  Vijaya Baskar 75%
  Sanker Ganesh 55%
  Harris Jayaraj, Maragadamani, V.S.Narasimman,
  Bharadwaj... etc. mds 50%

  Do we really need to bother about what others have to say about Rahman?For years we have enjoyed Rahman's music,seen a whole new world through it.What's the need to convince others about it?
  If some people do not like his music, let them voice their opinion.Let's not fight with them.
  After all,universal peace and harmony is what Rahman's music stands for. Don't you think so?

  What you say is right. But when you are listening to good music and some people like the few hear keep sounding loud horn repeatedly, then how long can you tolerate. For the past 10 years it is happening. Even though we have got used to live with them, at atimes , we have to definitely give a fitting reply.   I do agree that "fitting replies" are a necessity at times.However I find all these postings by the detractors really funny and ridiculous.I think it's all a big joke,though not a sensible one.
  These loud horns will never be able to submerge good music.

  Guys this was a great thread till the detractors came along. My request to all ARR fans - ANY MUSIC LOVER WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE ARR'S GREATNESS. LET US ALL COMPLETELY IGNORE ARR DETRACTORS. I HAVE A GUT FEELING - MAYBE EVEN *THEY* DO KNOW THAT HIS WORK IS FANTASTIC, BUT JUST DONT WANT TO ACCEPT IT. THEY ARE THE ONES TO BE PITIED :-)
  
  Let us continue discussing ARRs work and his new albums/collaborations, without posting even a single reply to any such trouble-makers. Paying no heed to them, will cause them to stop posting nonsense :-)
