The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?
Andha situation BRkku suddenaaga thondra, VMkku outdoor shootingil irundhu

Annikke song shoot panni mudichittaangalaam.
Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

Unga nickname-la innoraal irrukaara?
In reference to the ARR concert of 1997 singer Sujatha said:
We all had a great time. We sang on the plane, while walking, at the hotel when eating and in our rooms. There was a lot of us. Having Hariharan with us was a great benefit. At the hotel, we would circle him and tell him to sing ghazals for us.

aruvi, I think I am missing your point here :-), can you please explain ? Is your reference with Subbalakshmi ? (or Devaadhi Deva.. this question arises because there are many who firmly believe that I am DD inspite of my repeated screams that I am not :-( )
GV:
I am sorry, I donot know much about it at present. But, I shall contact Vijay (for the first time :-)) and try to get more info.

SK, thanks for reminding me of 'Anbil malarntha nal roja', it's been years since I listened to it.Athellaam pochchu....ippo chords chords-nu uyira vaanguraanga. Vidyasagar etho paNNuvaar-nu paartha, avarum KaaNale.
Another tidbit on PS, during the recording of a song in 'Nenjirukkum varai' (the solos of PS in this movie are 'KaNNan varum neramithu','Enge neeyo naanum ange unnodu', make your pick), she started weeping uncontrollably. MSV enquired with the recordist and his assistant, but none had any clue to what had happened. PS's husband had also arrived at the scene, having been informed about all this. Slowly, PS managed to regain some control over herself and stated to MSV that she was not able to sing as well as he (MSV) did , when he taught her the song and hence the sudden bout of depression and tears.

Motivated by the above discussion, in this week's
PPP-RA update we have put a bunch of 20 solo songs
sung by PS in the 50's. anbil malarndha nal
rOjA is there (minus a last bit of humming).
It is interesting to note a good variety in PS's
voice in these 20 songs. Amazing voice!

check out Bharathiraja's Interview in The Hindu dated Nov 12.
here is the URL http://www.the-hindu.com/stories/09120223.htm
Here are the comments of Bharathiraja on Ilaiyaraja.
Talking about the music directors he has worked with, Bharatiraja says with feeling, ``Ilaiyaraja
is a genius... a creator in the truest sense.'' He then worked with a few others and could not find
complete satisfaction till he began working with A. R. Rahman. ``After Ilaiyaraja I am
comfortable only with Rahman,'' he states.
One has to move with the times and make adjustments instead of thinking about the past
always, is the philosophical strain he adopts. There was a time when Ilaiyaraja's re-recording
for Bharatiraja's films was a sensation, an added bonanza for filmgoers. And thinking back
Bharatiraja becomes nostalgic. ``All the same one should learn to be flexible... I am now...'' he
says.

Guys this article appeared in today's Indian Express. Read the last paragraph.
Amendment to copyright act required: Jaitley
NEW DELHI: Amendments to the copyright act are required to protect the interests of traditional and tribal artists whose works have remained unprotected over the years, Minister of state for
information and broadcasting Arun jaitley said today.
Inaugurating a workshop on the rights of tribal and traditional artists, the Minister said "we have a large section of artisans in non-urban areas of the country whose specialistic in arts has been exploited thus we need a comprehensive legislation both by the way of the copyright act and the intellectual property
rights to safeguard the ancient heritage."
As the copyright act basically acts on the premise that a piece of work should be an individual's original effort and not a collective or a community based work, traditional artist whose skills have been mainly passed over generations through word of mouth, have found it difficult to safeguard their interests.
Citing the example of the film industry which has been hit by music and video piracy, Gaiety said that widespread piracy has not only given rise to a flourishing and illegitimate industry but has also given a setback to original workers. Traditional arts also face the same threat if they are not adequately protected. Although people from the film industry have a lot of resources to
file suits against infringement, tribal and traditional artists do not even have the backing of education and the money to do so. Thus there is all the more reason to work for their uplift.

November 1999: Sources in London, England say that Mani Ratnam, Kadhir, Barath Bala(of 'Vandhematharam' Bala and Kanika) and Shekar Kapoor landed to see Isai Puyal AR Rahman. As Rahman makes many a trip to London, his time, it was on the production of some music for Andrew Lloyd Webber's BOMBAY DREAM, which is a Musical - Shekar and Andrew are Scripting and AR Rahman is doing the music. Andrew is said to love AR Rahman's work and has even offered to build a Mosque at his countryside home for Rahman to stay and finish the compositions. Anandan Sivamani is also said to be working on the Purcussive side of this illustrious project, which is a real move up for the Asian community in London, as well as making India proud, some of it's best new talents are finnally making a real mark on the world! Let's wish them luck. With Manoj Knight Shymalan from Kerala making his mark with 6th Sense and of course Shekar's Elizabeth, the world is ours!!!!!
