The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:

  K.J. Yesudas is one of the international super stars who will sing at a concert in Paris with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta. This concert is organized by UNESCO "to mark the dawn of the 3rd millennium", and will be held on November 14, 1999. Masters of Ceremony for the program include Gregory Peck, Harry Belafonte, Liv Ullman and Sidney Poitier.   To add more to what you wrote about the initial years of P Suseela
  in TFM..the MD who gave her that first chance was Pentiala Nageswara
  Rao. He was on the look out for a good female singer and sent in a
  request to AIR to recommend some regular singers there. AIR sent 5
  singers.. and Pentiala chose PS. After she sang for 'petra thAi' in
  1953 (starring A. Nageswara Rao and G. Varalakshmi and also made in
  Telegu as 'kannalli'; PS sang a duet with AM Raja in the movie) PS
  was hired by AVM on a monthly salary. In the same year (1953) the
  famous MD, TR Paappaa rejected PS for the movie, 'Anbu' starring
  Sivaji Ganesan and Padmini. TR Paappaa wanted her to sing the song,
  'enna enna inbamE vAzhvinil ennALum' (a hit duet.. and a very
  enjoyable song even when you listen now).. but chose Jikki instead of
  PS because.. he felt PS's thamizh pronunciation was atrocious!
  (Later, PS went on to sing many great tunes under TRP.. that's a
  different story.) This rejection must have made PS to work hard on
  thamizh pronunciation. AVM recruited a special thamizh teacher to
  train PS in pronouncing thamizh well. PS's biggest break came in
  the movie, 'kaNavanE kaN kaNda dheivam'. The joint MDs for the movie
  were Attepalli RamaRao and the famous Hindi MD Hemanth Kumar. The song
  'endhan uLLam thuLLi viLaiyAduvadhum EnO, kaNNum kaNNum ondrAi koodi
  pEsum vindhai thAnO' sung by PS was a big hit. In this famous song (mayA
  jAlap padam) Lalitha, a nAga dhEvadhai, falls in love with Gemini
  Ganesan and tries to seduce him. In the same movie, PS sang another
  hit song.. a thAlAttu.. 'anbil malarndha nal rOjA' for Anjali Devi.
  These hits were followed immediately by 'brindhAvanamum nandha kumAranum',
  and 'aRiyA paruvamadA' in 'Missiammaa' (MD: S. Rajeswara Rao). PS
  never took a backseat to any other singer after that.. she was always
  on TOP in TFM.

  SK, actually PS's voice was first introduced to TFM by MSV (while he was deputizing for CR Subburaman) in the movie 'Chandi Rani'. Bhanumathi, the heroine of the movie recommended PS to MSV who used her for a humming piece. This is as told by PS herself in an interview.

  IR is 10th best Indian personality of century?hahahahahaha.for IR fans maybe.First of all, who decides on such things?This is no big deal.Because even Hitler is in top ten person of the century conducted by TIME magazine.Pity thing is even for IR fans IR is only in tenth position;-)

  Deva is in the range of Mozart ? that is an interesting piece of info :-) ( I did not know Deva was in that "range", but I did know was that the Deva fans are mentally "deranged" :-)(NOM))

  I'm curious about the list that Vijay Venkatraman is talking about. Is this a list compiled by DINAMANI?
  
  The list of "The Most Important Indians of the 20th Centuary" compiled by INDIA WORLD included several musicians, including Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, K.J. Yesudas, Kishore Kumar, Mohmad Rafi, Ravi Shankar, Balamuralikrishna and of course, Ilaiyaraja.
