Hi guys,
I am going to india soon.If you want to show your disapproval against ARR's plagiarism please do reply to this new thread which I will eventually print and give it to ARR personally so that he realises that people are not dumb and listen to his fancy copying of music from abroad and boast himself as a musician.
Even his latest much talked "Vande matram" has one songs which has direct lift of a tune from Madonna's latest "FROZEN".
I don't know how he thinks that he can get away with these fancy copying.I think it is time for us to show him that we are not dumb.

elE enna pEchu pEsareenga. namma bharithiyaar solluraar, 'piRa naattu nallaRinjar saattiram thamizil mozipeyardhal vENdum'.
Why should music field be excluded. I don't listen to music other than Indian. Lot of folks in Thamil Naadu don't listen to anything other than Thamil. So these MDs take all the pain like 'annappuL' to select good music and bring to India.
long back I happened to listen a song in English ' Oceans apart day by day' if I correctly recall the lyrics. I tried to sing it with Thamil lyrics in vain, but if our MDs can bring out it in our 'iniya thamil', I would like to hug them.
Then, two are more persons can invent the same thing irrespective of others. Car was invented simulatneouly in three countries.
No one can create anything from nothing. You see something and a new idea stricks to your mind. There may be an influence of that original thing in your creation. The word invention itself is to be substituted by innovation. Did Wright brothers invent airplane. No. They are the first to successfully do the flight, thanks to a powerful engines available at the time.
Our MDs are in a different playing field. They have to compose music for many films in short time. No body is sitting on the back of Madonna to bring an album with in fifteen days. So our MDs borrow a few scores to fill the plate.
But I hear you munumunu,' Ok, but let them confess'. Ama, they should, if confronted, Ana why tum tum. I enjoy lot of their items especially those that were mensoned in your 'uraiyaadal'. In many of these songs the lyrics are real 'kavithai'.
Finally I enjoy Kamban, though the story is borrowed from valmiki. Who knows valmiki might have borrowed from folk lore as Ilango, the story of Kannaki from malai kuRavar.

Hi ,
Balaji : you just take one word from my entire posting and start to twist it in your way.- Read the full context.
I am trying to prove copying has been accepted in TFM by you and me and everyone.
Also it is not the mistake or you cannot blame ARR alone for this. Every musician before ARR has also copied scores - once again we have accepted it without any question, in past, no one as agreed that they have copied.
(I dont want to talk about quality. I am sure ARR uses the best sound samples in the world , thats why his songs sound more international).
Also you sound like as though ARR has copied all of his work!, that is absoulutly not correct. It is not easy to the reach the top by passing over great musicians like Raja and few others.

a digression:
rajendran,I think u are referring to the song by Richard Marx-'wherever u go ,whatever u do, I'll be right here waiting for u'.
the song starts with the lines'oceans apart..'
do not worry the song has already been lifted and used in the BGM of the film 'darr',which i happened to see recently.u see our indian MD's are always
a step ahead of us in identifying good songs to lift.

Vijay,
It seeems that it is always one sided.that is only our MD's copy form others and not the western MD's from ours.
So does it mean our MD's are inferior?
WHy do they embarass us?

R Balaji ! Their Composers too would be inspired by our music if only our music were as readily available as theirs is.

Hi,

Why do they embarass us?
Take this question to India and ask all the MDs instead of poucing on ARR alone...

Hello Balaji,
I understand your feelings about plagiarism but please do not give a wrong example to prove your point.
For your kind information, Vande Mataram was released way back in August, 1997 and Madonna's Frozen only early this year. And be specific when you are giving such references, as to which song or track you found similarities in...
Another question, (just out of curiosity) how do you plan to meet ARR?

As long as the music is good to hear I am not worried about who originally composed who copied it and related questions.ARR is making international tunes available/appreciated by local folklore in India.Today not only the people who listen to Western but also the common man is able to enjoy the music be it Oceans Apart or Kadalukku Appal...no probs. Illayaraja too has been known for copying tunes.I think the question is finally has it served the purpose of making music available to common man..
One copy I can think of Illayaraja is
"Nee Nadandal Nadai Azhaghu... Nee Serithal Sirrippu Azhagu... " for rajini in basha..
It is copied from a old hindi movie called CARAVAN..Listen to this song it is not even modified but ditto copy. But It sounded great what the hell how does it matter.

Srikanth,
since ARR is begining to recognized world wide I thought it would be apt to consider him.IR didn't reach that kind of popularity.
AS ARR started representing our music world wide I think he should refrain himself from copying and produce his own stuff.WOn't that be blemish on our INidan music when other foreighners see that he has taken bits from us?
People don't care about Deva coz he is still within INdia.
Srikanth out of curiosity(Since you know lot about music) can you tell me the number of songs or bits taken bythe others from our inidan music?
Neels..
I have said many times that it was a mistake comparing VM and Frozen.
