Trend:
a sincere suggestion: eat your words. then digest them! the first person to use the word GOD in this thread is YOU. so before complaining about others pay attention to what you were whining about.
actually, you are not the only one to blame, wrt this thread. the blame, for the most part, rests on the "good old" rAmki. his tasteless ridicule of irfans has led to all this, but, since he is a "veteran" no one complained!
you don't have to like idli-s. your dislike for idli-s doesn't give you any right to ridicule madrasis (or idli-eaters).
as srinath pointed out, i have deliberately avoided being sarcastic. i have realized that only a few can get it.
i will stop here. let the flame now continue in rAmki's honor! ;-)

aruLaracan,
I agree I used the word GOD here first.I was taking into account the most other threads which were active for quite long time.

Srinath,
I remember a time when Trend was writing normal posts; he’s the latest one to go through the DF ringer. I think sarcasm and irony are far less irritating than seeing comments such as “ARR’s music is a laxative”. Those statements provoke these reactions and on and on. Blame is universal here. I guarantee you that you will come away cheapened in any heated debate involving the two MDs, no matter who you side with in this forum.
Karthik,
Can you feel the irony smacking you? Yours is the most hostile, name-calling post in this thread. When you feel justified being so vile, I think Trend is justified in being sarcastic. No matter how irrelevant his post, at least he hasn’t called anyone names.
aruL,
I didn’t feel Ramki’s was a tasteless ridicule. I took it as a weary sigh from someone who has been around and seen this stuff for too long. I think that goes for you, Srinath and myself too. The scabs will be picked time and again, there’s no healing here. For fruitful discussions stick to the few technical ones that die a quick death. Any discussion involving the two over-analyzed behemoths stays informative for a few posts maximum, then the fan clubs will take over, the yes men will align themselves on either side, and things get ugly, personal and away from any discussion.

There is only one way I can see this thing - HCIRFs bash ARR and his fans all over the place and HCARRFs are now venting themselves in this thread. I am stating the obvious lest any HCARRF take your post as some sort of endorsement of their posts !

This is a lesson I learnt the hard way a long time back :-) When was the last time you saw me participate in a slug-fest here ? My filter coffee club has been long disbanded mister :-)))

:-)). you are right. it is hurting to realize that great artists like ir (and good artists like :-)) ) arr (couldn't resist that :-) )are no different from kamals and rajinis (or vijays and ajits! yuck.) that's what all these "mud-wars" prove :-( i just wish people treat these genuine artists with respect and just tear apart their works instead of their fans. mm... . (btw, anybody who takes any internet poll seriously should be mmm... naive - i am trying to be soft :-). )
srinath:
what "venting themselves in this thread"? most threads of late (>= 1 year) are irfans bash thread. remember the cheap mahAbAratham the DD used to telecast. remember the kAlachchakkaram in the beginning? that's what it's all :-))
bye guys.

Udhaya,
I could'nt resist the name-calling. And unlike other times, I dont even feel like apologizing here, though I know I should:( I am not exaggerating here - every post by Trend just makes me furious!!! Because for me, their intent is only too clear .... to bring the worst out of people. And, like someone pointed out here, this guy is the same as the infamous Bug - who did exactly this with his long winded posts. God, I'll take a SPM any day :))
Peace

Can we PLEASE get back to the topic now? Or is that too much to ask, given the heated exchanges that have been taking place here? Well, regardless of whether or not you guys pay any attention to me, I've got a few things to suggest about this topic: two new categories: best song video and best prelude. The best prelude, in my opinion, is the prelude to "Nee paartha" from "Hey Ram!" (presuming that the film was released in 2000). The best song video (again, in my opinion) was the "Snaehidhanae" video from "Alaipaiyuthey".

NagaS, the cassette cover says `ethilum ingu' is by Pulamaippiththan. You need to find another song from Bharathy to honor him:-)

oops, I'm sorry, I didn't read your comment on `not considering Bharathiyar', I confused the film's name as referring to the poet and posted without second thought:-(

Best FILM album goes with the release date of the films...Hence Friends, Dheena, Minnale all due for PONGAL-2001, are eligible only for 2001 awards...

Fortunately, I have a bigger room for listening to my music system now. I played bharathy over and over again without getting satiated.
My pick of the album is - edhilum ingu iruppan. Very classic ..very enjoyable.
Next comes Nirpathuve..Very very ambient song..ambient in the way of carnatic singing. Very soft and pleasing on the ears.
keladA mAnida - very majestic. (this song and edhilum suit bharathi's image, nirpathuvE is bharathi in his romantic mood..you know the romance I mean). This song has tabla+mridhangam.
Vande mataram - to my limited knowledge is a WCM fusion of a march song. (because of the thavil).
bharatha samudhayam - I was disappointed by Yesudass's singing. Looks like he his better than Madhu in the higher octaves but still I didnt enjoy it.
People were complaining that bharathi is not as good as sindhu bhairavi but I think bharathi has good orchestration although keeping a low profile to highlight the melody.
ninnai charan - for the bhAvam of rAja and conceptualisation of the song itself (mano+rAja). Discreet use of electronics (or is that some instrument ?). Ingenious use of the song for the situation in the movie.
mayil pOla - a very simple song. Bharathi preferred simple lyrics, even sanskrit words, but did he encourage colloquialism ?
Negative aspects are - I did not like flute sound, artificial sibilance, silly stereo effects going to right/left spkrs alternately, echo effects not done very well. (The last two weren't annoying that much in the new listening room).
My pick for the best of 2000.
