  Ragapriyan,
  I think MMG has been applied pretty well. Remember, the tune was created for pre-written lyrics. That is the reason, the whole song, the pallavi and charanam have the same meter. Considering this, the complexity that has been introduced is remarkable. More in detail later as I cannot parse the song into swarams without a keyboard.

  Guys,
  Have you heard "Neethan Ulagam" by PS from "Bommai"? The MD is S.Balachander. There was another PS number, "Engo piranthavaraam" in the same movie. Another SB /PS combo is "Kan paarkum paarvayile" from "Nadu iravil".

  (For example, because she didn't respect Ilayaraja much

  Getting back to old songs, Ragapriyan, Sriram, have you listened to this song, it's context in the movie and the lyrics and the bhaavam in TMS and Suseela's voices are just great!

  Ragapiriyan & Karthi,
  "Antha Sivagami maganidam" is my favourite number in the movie. Govardhan's another good number is "Naathaswara osayile devan vanthu paadugindraan"..and another one "Gangai nathi oram raaman nadanthaan" sung by KJY and VJ.

  I don't remember the movie name and the star cast and the MD (must be MSV - TKR). But, this song is a very excellent melody very well rendered by PS.
  
  Can anyone of you just write the pallavi of the songs in the film "Karnan"? There are several great no.s in that film. I remember one of them.

  The film also had a wonderful duet with "Sivaji" Ganesan and Devika. I remember the tune but not the lyrics exactly.
  
  I would like to know the pallavi of the lyrics of all the good songs and the lyricists in the film "Veerapaandiya Kattabomman".

  All of them gems, the likes of which probably may never be heard again...magnum opus. My personal favourites are the songs 1. to 7.
  The beautiful pieces are the Saranga piece before PBS starts with "Enna koduppaan". After PS sings the Pallavi of "KaNNgal Enge" without percussions, the same tune is repeated by a Sitar, xylophone combination with a Veena playing a different counter melody...brilliant
  piece. TMS himself composed his piece "Mannavar porutkaLai". Songs 1. to 7. had a distinct Hindustani touch with Sitar,Saranga & Shehnai dominating.

  I am suddenly reminded of a PBS,PS duet , "Naan unnai cherntha selvam
  Nee ennai AaLum deivam" from "Kalaikoyil". So romantic and the tunes differing subtly in the stanzas rendered by PBS and PS, a typical MSV trade mark. Going further into MSV's "multiple tune duets", "Chandrodayam oru pennanatho", "Engiruntho Aasaigal", "Sirippil undaagum raagathile", "ChinnavaLai mugam SivanthavaLai", "Madana Maaligayil', "Naan ALavodu rasippavan" etc. and so many more.
  
  Another song worth discussing is "Neeraazhi mandapathil" sung by SPB and PS , tuned by T. Chalapathi Rao.

  Thank you so much for listing all the songs in "Karnan". All the 14 songs you have listed are gems. As you said, IT IS PROBABLY VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO HEAR THEM AGAIN. My personal favourites will go like this :
  
  1) kangal enge... nenjamum ange... kanda podhe...
  2) ullathil nalla ullam urangaadhenbadhu vallavan vaguthadhadaa... Karna... varuvadhai edhir kolladaa...
  3) aayiram karangal neetti... azhaikkindra thaayae potri...
  4) maranathai enni kalangidum Vijaya... maranathin thanmai solvaen
  5) iravum nilavum valarattume... num inimai ninaivugal thodarattumae
  6) ennuyir thozhi kel oru sedhi... idhudhanaa ungal mannavan needhi
  and so on. Oh God!!! PS has done a great job in songs 1, 5 and 6, esp. kangal enge. What a great voice she had. No wonder that IR once seemed to have told that "andha amma (PS) maadhiri paada mudiyaadhu". One more point I want to tell about this songs is the acting of "Sivaji" Ganesan. Of course, it is not right if I elaborate it in this thread. But my elders used to tell me that there will be a very serious debate on whether Sivaji's acting added value to the songs or the songs gave more scope for Sivaji's acting. Ondrai ondru mundhuvadhu pol irukkum.
