Are we doing a listing exercise? I thought you wanted to compare emotional songs between MDs. If you go by numbers, we would be filling up the pages. :)
We need a "Terms of Reference" my friend. :)
If you still insist, than I am ready to begin listing.
Just say when. :)

ROTFL,
I must admit-you are ths second tough nut to crack in this forum.
//Because of the mass production of music by this particular MD and his dominance of TFM for a long period of time, his fans more or less had very little opportunity to listen to other MDs for a certain period of time.//-the 'other 'md's were given ample opportunity -they just did not measure up whynot. It is not as if IR went to producers and told them not to give chances to anyone else.he did a good job in whatever came to him.For a fact,we all know that he did his best to promote VSN,for one.
//Not having sufficient knowledge of other MDs' work
They conclude the MD must be the "best", simply bcos he has produced the "MOST" number of albums/songs and hence has more songs to list under each category/genre. Let's wait another 12 years and even Deva will have fans who claim he is superior to ARR & other MDs simply bcos he has done more number of songs//-that is silly statement if you go about equating deva to IR and ARR.We have this number question popping up again and again for the simple reason someone else was doing it already, and doing it well.If ARR cannot do it,well that is all he is capable of.IR was the best when you combine quality plus quantity..Dont go on about not listening to other music as if we live in a pond or something.I ,for one, have an extensive wcm collection.I have been listening to WCM for the past 15 years. My respect for IR has only grown after my exposure to wcm ,to which I started listening mainly because of IR's extensive use of wcm techniques and his HTNI and NBW-just because I listen to IR,dont think I dont listen to any other music.come on, give me a break!
there is an emotional involvement no doubt-IR's current songs do not appeal to me as do the songs from nineties. But listening to his songs from 90's compared to the present crop of MD's only shows how superficial and shallow the present music is.

ROTFL,
I've not asked for any big list:-) Just number by number...well, why should I keep asking you, I have listened enough of TFM to quote one extremely moving song (a non-IR number, let's all analyse this and compare with IR's style of emoting please):
Emotion : sOgam arising out of illAmai / vaRumai:
`poonchittukkannangaL, pon maNi deepangaL, pAl pongal pongudhu kaNNeerilE' from the film `thulabAram' (I think remake of a Malayalam movie, a bench mark in depicting pasi & vaRumai) starring AVM Rajan & Sharada, I think...I still remember seeing this movie in childhood crying thru out and any time I hear this song on Radio, my throat chokes...(I think the MD is Devarajan Master)...
Now folks, my provocative comment: The singing of PS is quite DUMB in this song (as I recently realised, even with choked throat)...she probably didn't understand the meaning of the song while singing...just compare that with how TMS sings, WOW... (My another point is such moving, powerful stories & situations have become rare during the IR era...however, whenever `vaRumai' got portrayed, he powerfully supported it with his music - let it be `sippikkuL muthu' or `kAsi')...

"It is not as if IR went to producers and told them not to give chances to anyone else.he did a good job..."
I did not dispute this. ALL I said was that IR dominated TFM during a certain era and as result most of TFM was simply IR's music for a long time. You have confirmed my point. Thanks.
"-that is silly statement if you go about equating deva to IR and ARR"
ARR is jus an example. I did say ARR and other MDs. It cud be YSR, HJ or Imaan.
"I ,for one, have an extensive wcm collection."
:-) good to know that. I have read statements by IR Fans (in the archives) who defended their decision to listen to only IR's music. This point wud apply to those people.
"only shows how superficial and shallow the present music is."
This is your opinion. (probably borne out of my reason 2 in my theory.)
Those 4 points I made were my theories to make some sense of different behaviour. Dont take it too personally. Not all or perhaps even none may apply to some or all IR Fans.

Story in song - Kelviyin naayagane intha kelvikku bathil
Story in song? this is not a sort of emotion. However the song keLviyin naayaganae could be listed under a category, something like "kind of sorrow/sad due to confusion".
Btw are all these songs by a single MD?

I am glad you are talking to me. :)
Kelviyin naayagane has mixed emotions. The song begins as a carnatic song and goes through sveral phases, ending with a emotional appeal.
No, the songs are by various MDs, from MSV, KVM to even Vedha.
By Bharathiyar, I meant emoting from a pre written lyric.
Peeps
I am tempted to continue the listing with songs such as Paattum naane, Paattu varum, Thaneerile thaamarai poo, Ketathum koduppavane, Paar magale paar, Oraayiram paarvaiyile. I think I better stop it here. :)

Eden,
please dont let ROTFL get away. Please give a list of, say, 10 songs and lets see how he responds. Remember he promised to give matching songs from both old and new (90s) movies. I think he has painted himself into a corner here, so it will be fun to watch.. :)
my suggestions among songs to include:
despair/frustration:
azhagu malar aada (vaidegi kaathirunthal)
thakita thathumi (salangai oli)
death:
aarariro paadiyathaaro
vaanam thottu (thevar magan)
solai pasunkiliye (en raasavin manasula)
vaarthai thavarivittai (sethu)
exhilaration/celebration:
madai thiranthu (nizhalgal)
Love, and love failure I guess there are literally 100s of songs, so I dont know if it needs to be included in the list.

ROTFL :-)
ok i got it, "story in song" means songs that show mixed emotions in them while telling the entire story of the film, just like kaatil oru singa kuttiyaam from anbukku naan adimai which tells the story of the entire film to a child as a kids story showing different emotions :-)
why i asked "is it from same MD", is because, i thought, for discussion, we would pick one MD's creation and compare it IR's creation and decide and move on to another MD. If that is the case then listing songs by different MDs will give a kanpeensan.

ROTFL, TMS&PS? I was just commenting on how even a sensitive MD like Devarajan failed to recognize the `emotionless' performance of his singer for such a charged scene...compare this with Raja...on the emotional part, he has never let down. Even when a singer is not doing 100% justice (like Mano), he made up with instrumentals:-)
You have posted an impressive list -but where is the performance of MD in each of that song, that too so many of them (kuRu nilangaL)?:-) Now you probably understood why IR is rated as King:-))

these days IR songs produce only one emotion...PARITHABAM.
