  anyone, can someone confirm who used SPB to sing in Surli's voice first - was it IR or someone else ? i remember this famous song that i used to hear in Ceylon radio - "konjaaam odhungu naan thaniaa pesanum unnodaaa"..... was this by IR or by someone else ?

  SabesanL you bring back the golden days of Surli and IR composing amazing comic songs. Yes, that was indeed IR, I forgot the name of the film. SPB and not the usual MV that sang this song for Surli.

  Sing it and see, there is not much room to take a breath, bar timings are vert close., song is continues. (in the pallavi)

  You and me are talking abt two different songs.
  You are talking abt Rajini song and I'm talking abt the Siva Kumar song.
  In the Sivakumar song En kanmani from Chittukuruvi,esp the lines,
  "Oaraiyeram kadhai.......mannan illaiyo" seems to be a difficult line(s) to sing.PS(I think it's her) also did a wonderful job.
  Confirming again :) we are talking abt two different songs.

  even the kaNmaniyae kaadhalenbadhu karpanayo from aarilirundhu arubadhu varai(casting rajini, phataaphat, cho etc) is a kind of moochu vidaama paadum paattu. please sing the song by yourself and compare it with SPB-PS(?) singing in that song. while singing, generally, we tend to take breathe between "kaNvaraindha oviyamo" and "yeththanai yeththanai". But actually there is no time-gap(or whatever it is technically).

  I tried to add the following in an archived thread, "IR and Guitar". But I wasn't able to revive it so I'll add it here. IR did amazing things with guitar spilling his guitar juice in cracks and crevices of interludes to afford a breezy transition and to offer support to the orchestration. This is one aspect of his music that I terribly miss in his current offerings.
  
  Unusual/experimental guitar usage by IR:
  -oru vaanavil poalae en vaazhvilae (one of the greatest preludes for a song; the way the guitar opens up the song and hands it to the flute and violin is fabulous)
  -thaalaattu piLLai undu thaalaattu (the veenai and guitar duel is spectacular; neither instrument loses, we are the ones who win)
  -thirutheril varum silayoa (the guitar and violin combo here is a sheer delight)
  -angel (a full-length English pop song from Kavariman sung by SPB; George Michael will cry in shame if he heard the strings in this and compared it to "Faith")
  -kanavoadu yaengum(a marvelous jazz experiment with guitar, piano, violin and tabla)and lilting guitars in azhagaana pookkaL and kaadhil kaettathu from Anbae Oadivaa
  -the shifts in the many transitions given a segue by the guitar, not to mention the beautiful bass guitar shadowing the whole song in "Germanyin sendhaen malarae" (whatever happened to this IR? oh, well, that's another contentious topic); also it sounds like a muffled guitar along with the regular guitar strumming toe-to-toe with the tabla in "Deiveega raagam" from the same movie, but it could be a mandolin for all I know.

  I think "faith" was a good effort. He doesnt need to be ashamed of the song and the album. (listen to the guitars in "hard day" remix!)
  plus not a good comparison!
  
  but I will reserve the comparison until i hear the angel song.
