One thing I would like to mention is that as far
as popularity is concerned,ARR is far more popular
than IR nationwide. This may be because he is doing
more Hindi films and 90% of his hindi ventures have been smash hits.eg.Taal,Rangeela etc.
Eventhough IR has achieved at an international
level it has not been recognised in India.

Namma OOrle vilai pogathe sarakku foreignle nalla pogumnu solreenga! Is that what you meant?
I agree that ARR is more popular Nation wide. Before that the meaning of popular and popularity should be well-defined. All popularities can not be measured using one single scale. Pandit Ravishankar, Ustad Bismillah khan, Zakir Hussein etc...etc are famous worldwide. How does ARR's popular compared with them. ARR might still be popular most. But can you say he is better than Ravishankar...So ARR is popular because of his "something different" concept. But I think with more ARR-like people stepping-in, his "something different" concept is slowly diminishing. Can he still be something different. We have to wait and see. So popularity is a relative term, subjected to change with time....
Finally, let me tell you one thing, there can be 1000 stars but there is only one sun in the sky. There can be 1000 ARR's but there can be only one "Raja". Raja's music die hard.

If there are people, who are so proud of Bombaydreams music which are available in bits and pieces, I got one thing to suggest, just listen to the first stanza interlude of the song Ammamma of the movie Sadhu. You will surely feel , BD bits are nothing new as such

Hi,
Dear Flifo
I read other's response too. I did't mean to hurt anybody. Your Web link convey only one side of the story. It is the statement told by the one who conducted the music. He should be like Zubun Mehta right. Now, he himself says that critics are very critical about the work. What does that mean. Why..., won't there be any critic who is right or neutral?
We should also listen to what a non-partisen person says. If IR is stopping the release of the cassette (I don't thing it is in his hands) for this kind of a reason then what should I say...he should allow people the analyse and rate his work.
I would like to see a India--Tamilians work get recognition all round the world. Also, if it is bad the we have to accept that. That will help us grow.
Now, regarding ARR, I came to know that in fashion shows in paris (this happened long before), they used ARR's Thiruda Thiruda songs(Thee Thee) with tamil lyrics (in between , in few - so it is really the original version) as BG music. One of my relative was thrilled to see that on his own and told me this , when at that point of time I was very little bothered about TFM or any MDs. Just FYI.
That's why I wrote ARR work reached even outside India.

Every piece of good music is going to be analysed by critic. However great one is, they are subjected to critic reviews. What John scott says is "Critics exist and even commented badly on some big men's music" He also tells IR should not bother for them. But when one is at growing stages critics view becomes unimportant. When muscicians reach certain stage, they get offended of critics views and give damn importance for that. I feel this's what JS was mentioning, I guess. Let's hope for the good day it comes out.
Only people who are closely involved with this knows the real truth.
I agree pieces of ARR's music has been played in Paris. Were you sure that they were ARR's version. If it was then it is appreciable. However, playing a piece of music in some fashion show is the real recognition or what? For that matter, IR conducted Miss. World/Universe (not sure) held in bangalore right? (probably reached millions of audience around the world) Discussion on this can be found on this page.

Dear Flifo,
I saw the lengthy pages of
http://members.tripod.com/raaja_saga/sathya.html
He seems to be very passionate about IR. I don't have any dispute. I did't go thru all the pages - the reason is in the first page itself he put a question that "has IR copied from anybody? " .Then he has written "Can anybody prove it?"
My knowledge about IR song database is very less. Also, I have been enjoying deep in my heart when ever I listen to his old and not so old songs on the way.
But, I have come accross some songs which, I am sure might have been a inspired one. I totally disagree hc fans of both sides accuse each other of coping. I allways believe that 80% originality and 20% or a little(knowingly or unknowlingly) inspiration is inveitable and that is eternal truth.
Let me come to the point. I want to mention some of the inspired songs of IR.
1. "Rum bum bum" from MMKR -
The original peice seems to be a english song. The song comes in a hindi film called "Maa" starring Rakhi and others. The sceen is a party sceen and people drink and dance for the music played in the BG. Khushbu acted in the film as child artist. So one thing is clear, this film came way before MMKR. And IR is certainly not the MD for that film. I think it was Kalyanji-Anandji
The same song peice is played by IR as RR BGM in "Meendum kokila", where Kamal fumbles in front of the judge while arguing(Comidy sceen)
2. I don't know the lyrics, but If you have sceen "Sethupathi IPS" -- the sceen in which Meena gets introduces starts with a song. The tune is exactly the famous one from "Sound of Music".
I don't know how to write music, So I can't write the tune here. If you were, wathching DD from earlier years onwards then, I beleive that you might have come accross as AD. of CAMCO chocolet where the children sing a song on this tune (of course for CAMCO choc -
C for Choclet CAMCO Choclet
A for And it is no. 1
M for Milk to get you strength
P for passing day with fun.
C for creamy rich taste. La..la..la ends some where here )
3.One song from Film Priya is an inspiration from Bonium or beetle (I don't remember the song - I just heard some one say so while proving it)
4.Song "Yen purushan than- Yenakku Mattum Than" sounds a little bit - a litte bit like "Dum Maro Dum"
5.SPB in a TV prog said that "Ingee Iduppalagi" from Thevar magan is an inspiration of old hindi classic. IR seems to have told this to SPB. SPB was talking about how great people respect and try to learn from each others creation.
I don't remember many, and I am sure in 4000 odd songs of IR you can find some like this.
This is not to belittle IR. This is just to explain to you and other IR fans (I myself is a fan of IR - but also of ARR --I am fortunate to enjoy the real great musics of both) that any creation is bound to have inspired from one thing or other. This applies to ARR also.
The difference between them and other low class MDs (Deva,Anu Malik....list goes) is that they put 80% of their stuff and 20% insp., but these guys put 99% insp. and 1% or less that that as their stuff.

3.One song from Film Priya is an inspiration from Bonium
I don't know how many times people will write about this song. I bought BoneyM CD just to check the claim. There is no resemblance except the way "I love you" rendered in both songs. I am not denying that IR has also copied couple of songs. But not this one, guys..
