Surprising! Even after 10years, ARR still a kid in BGM. Even in his latest KM, BGM lacks a lot. Especially in the scenes where the BGM need to lift the scene. Does his musical talent is LIMITED only to the songs or his CREATIVITY misses something whenever it comes to BGM or does he need MUCH MORE TIME to compose it? Yeah, i agree perceptions differ. Lets see how it goes.....

Why not,If IR had come in 90's I think he would not have made it atall.who is going to take a lean, dark man from village seriously? If you look at IR's photos from annakili recording,he looks,well-I cannot put it exactly without offending fellow fans. The fact remains that he was not a very photogenic man. Tfm by 90's had become even more commercialised and looks now do play a major role. One of the prerequisites nowadays is education,Except for the ones who come from musical families like YSR,KR,deva's sons etc all of them, parents make sure they have good education. They do not take their son's musical aspersions seriously.along with good education and higher income group company comes saviness. In this context,I think Panju Arunachalam must be one of the boldest producers in Indian history.Because, Annakili was almost a desperate attempt from him. Many producers told him(basing their comments,no doubt at IR's simpleton-that was the word I was looking for-looks),not to take any risks. But he went ahead and rest is history.
ARR had the advantage of convent education, metropolitan life style ,his fathers' connexions. But ultimately it all boils down to the individual. You would have noticed nowhere I have said ARR is crap or he is a talentless fluke. He is good, but,In my eyes he will always remain a few notches below IR in my eyes.

Thanks for the reply Yaaro. tat was an honest analysis.
But then, if IR had been born later, he'd have been a different personality as well.
S, u sound like ur suggesting King is not in form now.

whynot,If you had said born later-things will be different. But you said introduced later.I knew you were setting yourself a trap:-)

yaaro, I did say introduced later. 'born later' was jus a whimsical afterthought...I was trying to picture a new generation IR wit 'convent education' and the other fixtures u were talking about. It was not relating to my initial question to u. Anyway, tis was jus a hypothetical qn...dont take it too seriously.
wat trap? tis is turning out to be like guerilla warfare..:-)

yaaro,
i read ur post just now...i definitely agree. forget looks, names too matter these days...Why wud an Immanuel call himself ImmAn ?? Will any producer sign up a guy with some name like "kuNdalakEsi" ?? He wud have to change his name to some "kEsh" or some such thing...This is not now, even in those days, gnanadesigan had to become Ilayaraja to become popular.

now that within a matter of days i posted about raja being compared with rahman and getting comments like "highly provocative", i choose to underline a statement. i've never underestimated ARR's talent (as you could see in my "controversial" post), but only merely underlined the fact that its not proper to compare a senior who has done everything to raise the level of music in TFM to a higher plane(and is still doing that), to a junior who, like his senior is also doing the same. i wd like ARR to concentrate more on BG's rather than songs since almost anyone can give a 'hit' song but not everyone can give a 'good' song.
no doubt in the next 5-10 years that we'll have this very same site posting threads like ARR vs some xyz whoz popular at that time and hv postings like "xyz is the best MD in total Indian Film History". and this cycle will go on...Its just IR's time to be in the thick of things, but make no mistake.. ARR will soon be blasted by people who conveniently will ignore ARR's talents/achievements and praise that xyz, just like what is being done to IR now.
so listen to music, get addicted to 'good' music and do appreciate the MDs who make them, and as IR, in his "How to name it" album said, "Dont compare", period.
( i wd stop going further since i might be mistaken again.)

Guys, Will u please stop comparing IR with ARR, ( particularly to ARR FANS AND HCs). Will u please talk about ARR's BGM instead of talking about who's king and when? U guys are always known for changing the topic whenever u dont know what to talk and how to represent urselves in the given topic!!!! Pathetic!!!!

Vj...how convenient. Having started the comparison war, now ur preaching to others about not comparing..:-)
Saran, it wasnt my intention to compare. I only objected to HCIRF's condemnation of ARR as a has-been. why pick on ARR Fans Saran? There were more representatives from the IR-side (as usual) than the other way round.

1. Vijay Mallayya will be earning 1000 times more than our president K. R. Narayanan
Pardon me for my ignorance, but who is Mallayya? And are they in the same field?
I am surprised how people can deny 15+ years of IR's 'great' carreer by just saying he was like ambassador car ....
Nobody is denying him. What "people" said was that there was no equal competition then. :)
My argument was - when people want to do something more than just selling music - they go for IR,
Flawed statement. You accusing MR, BR and KB of "just selling music"?
But I can confirm that Ivan story needs a good music and Parthiban wanted IR for the movie ...

Perfectly acceptable. Isn't this what being a fan is all about. :)

First we shall see whether your prediction of 5-10 years come true or not. Then we shall see whether ARR still sticks around when "xyz" arrives the scene. If then ARR provides sub-standard stuff, then naturally, count me being here to "attack" him. :)

Not that way, it's unacceptable from the ppl who say that to Raja but who are not ready to accept that the quality of arr's work these days is coming down (PP, star etc)...To them, such things never happen to arr...if anyone says that, he becomes a HCIRF ;-)

i don think it wud be fair to go against ARR for PP. the film had real quality music.......the thing is it wasnt a great hit commercially.....music in PP was more towards our indian style, giving a break from the western addiction.
and as for STAR, the original tunes were gr8 hits in TAKSHAK......it was just frustrating coz twas recycled

WhyNot,
"Peeps, I'm sure ur King was busy fixing pipes in the streets. Our King fortunately chooses his assignments more carefully. He leaves the pipe-fixing, road-sweeping and roof-repairing to those meant for it and concentrates on more worthy matters."
Its not the type of work(Big Budget) u do...but the quality and speed with which the work is completed matters most..:-)
And By the way on what basis are u telling the ARR is the King now?
How many ARR songs where hits in the near past?
Nenjil jil jil,sundari,manmadha masam?
IR,Deva,Bharadwaj,YSR etc gave more hits individually in the same period..

ARR = Geff Boycott(Slow and mediocre Output)
IR = Viv Richards(Fast and classic Output)
