Surprising! Even after 10years, ARR still a kid in BGM. Even in his latest KM, BGM lacks a lot. Especially in the scenes where the BGM need to lift the scene. Does his musical talent is LIMITED only to the songs or his CREATIVITY misses something whenever it comes to BGM or does he need MUCH MORE TIME to compose it? Yeah, i agree perceptions differ. Lets see how it goes.....

Well well.. before 1984, ambassador was king. Whether it was the preferred car of indians, out of choice or the lack of it, is for all of us to see. So the market isnt as simple as it was. Each music director has a niche. What a lot in this forum are trying to imply is that, since ambassador had the lion's share of the market and sold in India in 1980-s more than say, a mondeo does now, it somehow is superior to the ford. it sounds stupid.
Whether it was due to Govt's restriction or something, Ambassador indeed was the most bought car, a kind of monopoly. But now the doors are open. Can anyone say that at present any one of the foreign cars has such a monopoly as Ambasadoor had? Also Ambassador did not force/ask the Govt to have those restrictions on foreign investments and industries. But Yes, after the flood gates were opened Ambassador is nowhere in the monopoly. But still Ambassador is giving the same efficiency in mileage, cost effective, accomodates more people and rugged(just like qualis -- not equal to) and was compact (just like you-name-the-car). Also, yes, Ambassador is not so Good looking as the present generation cars and has stuck to, in other words, not changed its, look.
I think we are confusing ourselves during these discussion. When one is talking about ruggedness other is talking about monopoly or same old fashioned look or not having newer technology. And when one talks about these the other talks about the mileage and ruggedness. IMHO This is what happened in a few of the postings here, including mine (including this).

Juan Pablo Montoya,
>>>> before 1984, ambassador was king
Thats a very good comparision :-)
But you can't compare it with TFM, because Ambassador was something forced to Indians who wanted to have cars, in IRs case, there were other MDs, Producers had other choices as well, but still , IR dominated the industry with his ** quality ** songs, which were also mass hits, Isn't it ? Come-on, doing 40 movies (avg) per year and giving atlest 2 to 3 good - original - songs per movie is not a simple thing to do ... Can any of today's MDs can even DREAM that ?
The argument was (and is) about king of TFM ... my opinion still holds good - no kings in TFM today, as there are no kings in car market today !

NagaS, I didnt mean the other MDs r ministers of King ARR. :-)Sorry I mixed up monarchy wit democracy. Wat I meant was the ministers r what u need to settle for when u cant get the man u want. Whether u like it or not, tis is true.
ARR is still the most appraoched MD when a quality project in in hand.
Wit regards to his HFM commitements, I think it is quite obvious wat I am trying to say here.
Peeps, I'm sure ur King was busy fixing pipes in the streets. Our King fortunately chooses his assignments more carefully. He leaves the pipe-fixing, road-sweeping and roof-repairing to those meant for it and concentrates on more worthy matters.
S, I'm glad u know my answer.
Yaaro,
"because you go on quoting that if you thinjk I will be browbeaten to not to reply to you"
Wud I want u to stop replying to me? :-) Ur my 2nd most fave HCIRF in this forum. It's good to see u in action again.
"just because you did not like them, they are not commercial failures."
I liked a couple of songs from Azhagi. I'm not one of those HCs who will condemn a whole album as crap (unlike u yaaro), bcos it's not by my fave MD. I never said they were commercial failures either. Read my posts. I was being sarcastic that u were childish enuf to comment tat since ARR's last couple of albums did not have as much mass appeal as they used to and since IR's last couple of albums had mass appeal, u have concluded ARR is a has-been and IR is still thriving well.
"If you have lived in TN when IR was at his peak,"
I lived in Singapore when IR was at his peak, and believe me, IR was the King with all the Tamil fols there. Who here is denying IR was the King? Did I say something to the contrary?
Listen to yourself Yaaro!
Ur so eager to list all the flops by ARR. You dismiss Lagaan bcos it was made in 2000, u say. But u conveniently add Nayak, even tho the music for tat was scored long ago too. Wat do u hope to achieve from this?
You may con urself into believing tat ARR is a has-been.
But no one else here is getting fooled.
You made an untrue statement (ARR is a has-been) and no amount of justification/denying/passing the blame/digressions/analogies is going to make it true.

Sabesan
Enakku vayatherichalthaan, athaan ARR thread le vanthu IR-ai pathi pesuren. Heeheehee! :)
NagaS
I agree that he is expensive, But that will only make him a costly MD, not a raja,
From what I know, the-best = the-most-sought = the-most-expensive. Unga oorla eppadiyo?
I mean between a Rolls Royce and a Toyota....?
Incidentally Toyotas are rolled out in the hundreds while Rolls Royce's are hand made and hence take a lot of time. :)
...more than 90% of the HIT tamil songs EVERY year were IR's ... no alternatives,
I think this has been sufficiently covered by Juan vis-a-vis Ambassador cars. :)
... For example take R. Parthiban, just think WHY he choose ARR for his 'Eleelo' and IR for 'Ivan'?
Is Parthiban in your list of Greats? :)
Anyway, it came a surprise to me when he turned to ARR; I always thought he was a die-hard of IR.
How do you know that Ivan is superior to Elelo, by the way? :)
Yaaro
AS USUAL you are totally confused. Sitting one half globe away from the happenings, you are one right person to pass judgements on the trend in TFM. Thalai ezhuthuppaa!
And excuse me, I don't need to live to your expectations. I will choose or not choose to be any damn person's fan. Who are you to dictate to me to make a choice? In your tainted eyes, everyone must take sides and there can be no middle ground. In your simple mind, there can be no neutrality. And therefore you expect everyone to fit into your pattern of things. Fat chance!
Thank god, that you are the minority in this world, or else kalki avatar will be upon us now. :)

//Ur my 2nd most fave HCIRF in this forum. It's good to see u in action again.//whynot,you have stumped me with this .BTW,who is your first fav? :-)how can I be rude to you after this?BTW,this myth that has been going around in TFM pages that IR had no competition and that is why he was able to rule the roost for so long-forget it.MSV,sivajiraja,chandrabose,raveendran,hamsalekha,sangeetharajan,devendran,deva,T.Rajendar,Shyam SA Rajkumar, balabharathy,Manoj gyan, maragadhamani,VS narasimhan,Anand shankar-these are the few names I can remember offhand who tried their level best for no.1 spot.they all came and after a brief foray went out of the scene.apart from this people like K baghyaraj and the likes who were so frustrated took to making their own music. They all had ample opportunities to prove thier mettle-but when IR was in full flow they stood no chance.ARR came in the right time.Even to me a HCIRF,IR was beginning to sound tired at that time.5 or 10 years earlier-who knows he will be still composing jingles:-)
ROTFL-am I confused?I thought it was you who were confused.all very confusing!

ROTFL,
1. Vijay Mallayya will be earning 1000 times more than our president K. R. Narayanan
2. Ambassador argument-kku eeRkenavee bathil solliyaachchu (I am surprised how people can deny 15+ years of IR's 'great' carreer by just saying he was like ambassador car .... !)
3. R. Parthiban may not bein my greats' list - But My argument was - when people want to do something more than just selling music - they go for IR, Another such example is Thangar Bachan,
I can't confirm that Ivan is superior to Eleelo - infact nobody can, But I can confirm that Ivan story needs a good music and Parthiban wanted IR for the movie ... I hope that answers your worry, 'nobody are approaching IR' .... Isn't it ?

"how can I be rude to you after this?"
I didnt know being rude to me was one of ur priorities.
"whynot, you have stumped me with this ."
watever i may have stumped u wit, i'm glad ur not going back to the 'ARR is a has-been' argument...
:-)
"BTW,who is your first fav?" It's not a human..it's a tig(g)er. a very well-nourished tiger at that. :-) of course tis remains subject to change if it goes back to its PA ways.
"ARR came in the right time."
I wud say ARR was brought in at the right time.
The right person at the right time at the right place.
btw, yaaro...how do u think IR wud have fared if he was introduced to TFM in the 90s...
jus curious to know ur opinion.:-)

Arr may have been introduced, in 2030s...When the King is in form, lesser mortals have to wait.
