Surprise comes in different packages. This time its in the form of a rather low hyped music release. PC Sriram's "Vaanam Vasappadum" by Mahesh. Before picking up the album, i thought that couple of songs would be good. But to my surprise all the songs on initial hearing completely knocked me down. Wow! Be it the rocky "Uyire Uyire" by Hariharan and ganga or the wonderfull duet "Kangal theendi" this album is sure the best of this year to me. Below is the list of the songs and my views on it. Let me know what you think of these songs guys!!
1. Vaanam Vasappadume - Timmy & Srinivas
I guess this is the title track. Great song this is . The song has a rockish feel to it.
2. Megame
Sung by harini. Didnt really impress me on initial hearing. Let me give the song a few more chances.
3. Kangal Theedi - Hariharan & Sujatha - Vairamuthu
THe way the song starts with sax is amazing. Hariharan and sujatha's melliflous voice then takes over. An wonderfull duet. One of the very best duet of this year. Listen to the sax, its been put to perfection in the song. Perfect tamil pronunication,( which eludes tamil songs of late!!) and great orchestration. An out of the world song. I'm hooked
4. Kanne Kanne
The song starts as a soft ballad and then . Very good rendition by srinivas.
5. Vaanam Uyaram
ANother duet by Harish Ragavendar and Gopika Poornima. Nice song. A good duet.
6. Uyire Uyire - Hariharan and ganga.
This one rocks!!. An absolute gem. No further explanation. Hear it to believe it. Wonderfull song.
7. Seithi Suda
Again a rockish song by Ranjith. Its a bit song. Good one.
Over all the album is a whiff of fresh air. Let me know what you think about the album guys.

Friends,
Mahesh avargal also did the BGM for Alavanthan. In the end credits, isai uthavi is credited to C.Sundar.
Mahesh also held a respectable post in Real Image Media (parent company of Media Artists).
He was supposed to do Mani Ratnam's Roja, but somehow it went to A.R.Rahman.
He should have made it big with his enormous talent. May his soul rest in peace.

'vanam vasapadume' song has shades of 'gulmahore malare' from Majnu. Atleast they come under same genre?
Anyone seen the movie yet?

Saw the movie and disappointed. Though it has some good moments and it is different from usual tamil films, my say would be 'PCS, please stick with your camera work alone'. Padam periya thovaiyal!

Just read the review of the movie in sify.com.

Seems like a remake of the Vinod Mehra - Rekha starrer, 'Ghar' (1977) with some incredible music by RD Burman. The last time PCS made a remake (Drohkaal - Kurudhipunal) the result was superior to the original. Is that the case now too? Could anybody who has been Ghar and now VV, comment?

Osho:
I usually like off-beat movies, so I could sit through the whole movie :) I am not sure whether I can recommend it or not. As someone mentioned in another thread, the screenplay was poor and few characters are messed up.
Visuals are great especially songs, in one song (I forgot which song) he has used a striped yellow saree to give laser light effects, it was awesome. If you are a fan of good cinematography, you will enjoy it for sure, Go for it!

Karthik S
'Ghar' was remade in thamizh as 'kaadhal kiLigaL' (sivakumar, Rathi)
Though VV's story line sounds similar to Ghar, i think its based on Sujathas mini thodar that came in Kalki(or saavi?). Its about a cross generation couple in Bangalore. One day while travelling in the bus she will miss a stop and will later be abducted by 4 young guys in an auto and brutally raped( rape scene described in full glory - i hope PCS has avoided it).
Highlight of the story was the climax.
I dont remember the storys name but VVs story line sounds very similar to this. I think Sujata has done the screenplay for VV too.

forget to add this: sujatas story also dealt with the rapists backgrounds..one is a prostitutes son who hates women, the other is a small time rookie, other one just in the thresholds of puberty.
