1.The 'Yuhi chaala ' song from swades was orginally composed for Lagaan .
2.Harris Jeyaraj worked with him only for 2 films !!
3.On today's music -
"What is today's Tamil film music all about? They are nothing more than fast numbers or remix downloaded. What took me weeks to make music for a "Gentleman" or "Rangeela" can be done today if you have a computer, software and then pre-set the rhythms and you have a disco number! Fast music is no big deal today as anyone can become a music director"
4.Rajiv Menon film in tamizh .

'artistic ceiling' aa ..mothalla foundation ennannu sollungappa ? :-)
It is ARR who started the trend that just the ability to compose a decent tune is good enough to become a MD. Rest is taken care of by loops/drum machines/arrangers what not. (Not that ARR's tune is bad, it is good, saving grace. Otherwise, other people would think we are so stupid to put him on high pedestal like this)

what do you mean? I was trying to show that your arguments were much ado about nothing, nothing more. I didnt participate in any mountain-making, strange you should feel that way. True, I am not a big Rahman fan, but I prefer him to other current pretenders in TFM

Jaiganesh,
Rediff is atleast better,Mr.Taran Adarsh(again!!)in Sify has nothing good to say either about the movie or the music,in fact he says ARR music was soothing to hear but with the visuals they are strictly 'fast forward'type.I have provided the links in the 'ARR's Desam released' thread.I was looking forward to see the film but both the reviews have acted as dampeners, but i might still catch upon it but with a little less enthusiasm.

Letter to ARRYG on behalf of ARR
---------------------------------
As you can see, its been CCed to Hindu also. Hope they carry this clarification. Vijay, we all know, is closer to ARR and ARR really cares about us (we genuine fans)

Hi,
Please read and absorb:
On Behalf of A R Rahman
A R Rahman, hereby wishes to clarify to all his fans, music lovers and supporters that the interview carried by 'The Hindu' has misquoted him in some parts.
Infact, whilst Rahman was talking to the journalist, there was another journalist talking to Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of Swades so the whole environment in itself was a bit cacophonic and chaotic and not conducive to a proper 'sit down' interview.
(1) A R Rahman at no point of time made statements like,"watch out for the English track in Kisna. It will give Celine Dion a run for her money". Rahman is no one to give certificates to people / artistes and he would never dream of talking like that. Infact, that part had been reported in a Goa newspaper earlier.
(2) According to Rahman, Harris Jayraj has only worked with him on 4 movies (Padayappa & Thakshak being some of them) and to call him his assistant was not fair to Harris or was the right thing. He only meant to wish them good luck in the true spirit of the word.
(3) A R Rahman also gave his opinion on technology and the changing times when he said that what used to take him weeks to compose could be easily done in a few days nowadays. What Rahman means is that that is the future of music and technology in the days to come and that with passing time, a lot of tools will be available to make everything look simple and easy.
(4) Rahman also said that his forthcoming projects include movies by K S Ravikumar, S J Suryah and probably a project with Rajiv Menon which is still in the initial stages. There are no projects with Dhanush at this stage.
(4) Lastly, Chennai is still Rahman's home and he is open to doing meaningful movies both in Tamil and Hindi. His international projects do take him out of India but that is only expected. After Bombay Dreams in Westend and Broadway, Warriors of Heaven and Earth, Raaga's Dance with Vannesa Mae, he is currently working on the stage version of Lord Of The Rings.
Hope this clarifies everything and that there will be no more confusion and chaos.
Peace & Love to All
Vijay Iyer

"I was trying to show that your arguments were much ado about nothing, nothing more."
If you can continue to think that in the face of the recent string of commercial disappointments of ARR, and the now almost-negligible difference between ARR and his close competitors, then kudos to the insulation from reality that you seem to have achieved.
"I didnt participate in any mountain-making, strange you should feel that way."
Casual critics are of the hit-and-run variety, so are non-fans. I'm not a casual critic, and you, despite what you say, are not a non-fan. No non-fan would defend ARR's last few releases over 7GRC or Autograph or Musafir or Naach. But if prefer to have us think that, then fine.

zz, thanks for the proof of authenticity. I appreciate that this proves that ARR has taken the trouble to correct himself. But I hope you understand that that bit about "misquoting" must be taken with a grain of salt. After all he said something similar about his competition in two other interviews that I know of.
But hopefully now he's alerted that he's been mentally distancing himself ("aging" as Vambu pointed out, but mental age has nothing to do with physical age) from the current Tamil scene, and that can only be detrimental to him. A certain connection with "mass" must be retained, despite the deluded injunctions of "reviewers" AND fans who get their music either free or from downloads. I think his next couple of projects in Tamil do promise this, but I wouldn't put my hopes up too much since I believe that Ajith, KSR, and Surya are all on a commercial downswing.
"I believe that you are arguing on a genuine point, with all sinciarity and conviction."
Well thanks for the endorsement, but frankly I'm always wary of praise and condemnation. Both are equally misleading in the pursuit of truth. Wish you the best anyway.

Being a fan is different from having the judgement to see which product is really better out there. I am frustrated in general with TFM quality these days and MDs not named ARR are a big part of this. Thats the reason I felt the way I did with your comments. Autograph is one of the mediocre albums of the year, the movie's success notwithstanding.
Like I said earlier, I am a bigger fan of the 60s-80s stuff even if you find that hard to believe.
"If you can continue to think that in the face of the recent string of commercial disappointments of ARR,"
First of all as a music fan, I care more about the quality of the product than about how well it did out there. I judge the album myself and in addition care more for critical reviews dwelling on technical aspects than for any half-baked skewed publicity-driven top 10 rankings. I have already addressed the commercial failures earlier.
