Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Arumbarumba is a beautiful PS thalattu. But reminds me of Sondhamillai(in structure not tune or notes)

bb, Swarna was in her peak in the early 90s and her voice was really divine in some of the few songs that came around at that time and were hits eg. Ennulle Ennulle, Poraale, Maargazhi Maasam(Vietnam Colony) I am a great fan of her voice. She is not a great singer, has limitations when singing in the higher octaves, but her voice/tonal quality is too good otherwise. Sadly, other than IR she was not used adequately by anyone else and was relegated to singing some loud numbers for Deva and the likes. Right now her voice sounds a little strained. Back in the early 90s it was captivating and was probably the best at that time atleast for me.
Nagas, there were a couple of fun numbers by Swarna from the unreleased Kutrapathrigai (about Rajiv Gandhi's assasination by R.K.Selavamani and music by IR). Do you remember those? I think one of them was "Mmaadhavaram poi varalaama?" and I vaguely remember the other one but not sure.

bb- good choice-Thanks! Chinna Thaayi was produced by M Vedha. I guess that IR would have been delighted to work on its score, considering that the title was his mother's name : ))
The film had an interesting story. Kottaiyai vittu was catchy in all its 3 versions. Arumbarumbaa is a great PS solo. Sabitha Anand gave a memorable performance.

vijay: Ennulle Ennulle from Valli was not sung by Swarnalatha but by Latha Rajinikanth, if I'm right

RC, enna ippadi solliteenga? :-) That song would be in the top 10 of any Swarna fan. You are probably talking about "Ku Kukoo koovum" from the same film by LathaR.
I remember the words of the other Sswarna song vaguely now. It goes something like "Ada Kaadhal enna..nee ninaikkum(?) kathirikaaya..") with Swarna in a teasing voice. It might not be Kkutrapathrigai but I would like to know the name of the film nevertheless. Any guesses?

Another Swarnalatha fan here :)
Feeling bad that aattamaa thErOttama (captain pirapAkaran) and rakkamma are not mentioned here while talking about Swarnalatha. Running with such wild horses like raja and spb - she manages to finish close on both occassions.

I have all the songs from this movie. There is a pathos version of this song Naan Yerikkarai sung by Raja himself. It has got better interludes and personally, I liked that version a lot.
bb, do you have that too?

add one more fan. at this rate, we can start a swarnalatha rasigar narpani mandram. some of my favourites: poraale, ennulle, evano oruvan, maalaiyil yaaro.. ARR gives her some good songs occasionally.

Venkatesh, I don't think I have it. I might have arumbarumbaa, though.
Swaranalatha is a pretty good singer, especially in songs like ennuLLE and aattamaa thErOttamaa.

I have found some traces of Vani in Swarna's voice, esp when she sings teasing numbers like 'Naan thanga roja ennai parikka varuvaaya',from Time , the drag she give for the words 'roja' and 'varuvaaya'

wow.. a great SOTD... one of my picks of KJY, swarnalatha... The movie was directed by kasthuriraja (correct me if i'm wrong).. Sabitha anand is the mother of the heroine and the heroine was born to her illegally.. The hero and heroine would fall in love and as usual will develop their love in hide-outs outside the village.. The heroine would lose her virginity on a rainy day and soon the villagers will come to know about this.. The hero couldnt do anything against his dad(vinu chakravarthy) and the villagers...heroine will be left with no option but to have the child without marriage... The climax of the movie was absurd as vinu chakravarthy will go for saami-adudhal to kill the son and people will hold the heroine not to go out ... 'kottaiya vittu vettaikku pogum' song comes at that point... The movie ends in anti climax when the heroine is left in a situation like her mom... I had the lyrics for this song.. will have to search my system for that.. Is the guy who sings 'naan erikarai melirundhu' in the middle the same one who sang 'potri paadadi ponne' ?? ....

actually the hero (is it vignesh??) goes for the "vettai" at the end...but the "saami" in him adangifies after seeing the mom with the baby...
radha ravi had a small yet good role in the movie, as a cop...he got an award for that role...

Song of the Day: On a hot summer morning from raaNi yaar kuzhandhai.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/hotsummer.rm
- A nonsense, silly song, for a change. Actually, the SOTD should read "aan eh hottu summeru maar ning". SPB has just freaked out in this song. I kept laughing for a while recollecting the way SPB has sung this song :)
- The great gaanaa lyrics of this song, if anyone wants to analyze. Lyrics is by Bharathiyaar. This is from his "paanchaali sabatham", where duchaadhanan sings this towards paanchaali.
On a hottu summeru morning
A girlu wentu walking
Her face-uh fellu (?) fine-u
The sweety issu mine-u
