These are two films by HJ and Bharani respectively. I was in a VCD shop today in the outscirts of Chennai, where I came thru these two cassettes. When I enquired, the women there said that Manju is Ok but L&G is really good. She was insisting this again and again. Also, CHOCOLATE has nothing better other than a 5-star chocolate with the cassette. She said that overall STAR songs are hit and its sales is in the peak. Theabouve mentioned two films are new releases and please, put your opinions about them here.

In my opinion Majnu is 'average', with mudhar kanave as my fav, other than that, its abt what I expected from HJ.

sts,
//"Bharath wrote that he would resist himself to compare it with pachchai nirame. I tried, but I could not resist."//
i was just being cheeky by suggesting that there is a similarity without actually spelling it out!:-)
i know u got the pun! but just trying to reconfirm it!

my "MAJNU" CD finally arrived today and I was as eager to listen to it .....
2 songs that instantly got to me were
Pinju thendrale and Gulmohar malare... it's on repeat on my Cd and it's driving my flatmates slowly mad. ( i do this everytime I get new msuic)
anyway here are some things I found whislt listening to MAJNU songs.
The musical intreludes in PINJU THENDRALE were similar to those of the BGM in PUTHIYA MUGAHAM, the veena solo and the flute solo (this flute solo is also used in the BGM in Minnale.
MERCURY MELA ORU's first 2 lines sound very similar to that songs from "ITHAYATHAI THIRUDATHEY" you know, the number Nagarjun and his buddies sing just after graduation and before the accident (same melodic motif or raga ..?
there somse elements of MAJNU that makes you wonder .."hmmm where have I heard that before", I love the syncopation in the rhythms and the usage percussion
in most of the numbers, there was no musican credits in the album, but would it be likely that some of the rhythm programmers fo ARR might have worked in this album ..?
I love TFM is general, so any work by any composer I'm willing to listen to, and MAJNU is likely to appeal to the younger market and I suppose MINNALE AND MAJNU both are very similar movies in terms that it's a youth orientated love subject.
I'd be intrested to see HJ's work when he composes for a rather offbeat or alternative project of a different genre (let's say maybe a village orientated film or maybe even a period film)
Listened to only one songs from LADIES AND GENTLEMENT, not trying to generalise here but Bharani's music seems like something that would appeal to the masses (o.k...but that's a just a generalisation), I won't be suprised if it made it in the top ten , but then again I probably would be

Mudhal Kanave is in Shanmugapriya Raga - yes, indeed the same Raga as Kannukul Nooru Nilava and also been utilised in a similar way by Harris.

Mudhal kanave is different and good on first hearing..Shanmukhapriya has been given a different touch and once again Jayashree sings with the same flair she had in Vasegara..this song might not be as catchy as Vaseegara but its my pick of the album..I think HJ's trick is in making BJayashree sing in a lower pitch..both Vaseegara and this song therefore have a light soothing feel due to this..a good change from the screaming pop songs that we have got accustomed to in TFM..

I like the way Jayashree sings "marupadi kanavugal varuma varuma.."..Unlike Nithyashree, BJ has managed not to "carnaticize" her songs and that is a plus point :-))

Jayashree sounds too old to me. (Again don't pounce on me!). Pichu Thendrale and Gulmohar should top the charts (although the second one seems to have been heavily inspired by Pachai Nirame). Mudhal Kanave sounds something like 'Verenna' from Minnale. Did anyone feel the same way?

The "mercury mele" song reminds me too much of
"Hum raahi ho jo mastano
maoj me dil deevana" song from the film pukar. Ofcourse, by ARR. Can somebody confirm.?
I just listened "mercury mele" song twice.

Hello to u all, this is playback singer devan, and I would like to address all of that all of your responses are nice and debating is good, but after all u type, md's as well as we singers make our money, so if u like a song listen to it, dont keep comparing and analyzing so much, because there will always be songs and singers that r great to some and bad to others. But its still amusing watching all of your responses so all the best and GOD Bless

Chandu,
Criticisms are meant with the best intention of keeping them in their dizzy heights. Thats all. I don't think any one does not like to invite new talents in TFM.

Devan
Nice of you to write in this column.Let me suggest this. Why not you as a budding singer use this column to really know the kind of response your songs and songs of other MDs and artists get from people who are really true critics.Trust me, as most newtfmpage readers and enthusiasts wud agree, this page really does shred each and every MD and singer on the quality content of the song. Agreed, the discussions tend to digress a little at times but there are also many instances of very good criticism and appreciation of tfm. So this should be an excellent means for you to reach out to the audience.

If IR / ARR see this page regularly then one day or the other both will hang.
If Deva sees this page once He will hang imme.. after seeing some threads if he is thinking that He is great.
If SAR sees this page He too will think of Hanging.
Ok So My openion is better if this be just a disussion form rather than a source to convey messages to the MDs / Singers , e.t.c
If MD or anyone would like to use this as a source to see the responce of people they should be prepared mentally to see any horrible critics on them.

Here comes the 'Ulta Mannan' of 2001. He steals and packages it well!
Every song seems like heard before but still something different !!!
My favorites are Mudhal Kanave and Gulmohar Malare
In keeping with the ideals of Mediocrities and Non-orginalities, HJ has created another successful album!
A sure-fire hit (inspite of being Prasanth's movie)

of the films listed mahabs avaragale. i think
vaikasi poranthachu and jeans (bcoz of darling aish) is acceptable.
fullname Prashanth "flop" thiagarajan.
appanukkum pullaikkumsuttu potta kooda nalla padam varathu. thiagarajan oru "raw" pichaikaran, magan oru "napunsakling" :-)
MR and shankar 2 big directors reached their lowest ebb in 2 films Thruda Thiruda(flop) and Jeans ( okay! average).
U know the similarities between both movies :-) Need I say more!
i firmly believe that prashant will be ajith agarkar and give the most consecutive ducks
