Congrats Srikanth! Years back in DF you once proposed that I work with you after a particular elaborate discussion (sari sari kozhai adi sandai ;-) ) that we had. It did come true, ultimately, didn't it :-) I wouldn't have dreamed of seeing my name on the same CD as SPB (or you, for that matter :-) ) Thanks a lot for that. The trailer sounds fantastic! The recording is totally out of this world!
For the benefit of others who've had the "pleasure" of witnessing our fights here on DF, Srikanth is an absolutely fantastic person -the one word to describe him would be GENUINE. He is very gracious and patient in person and having seen but a miniscule portion of the efforts it took for him to create this album, I must say, unless you are really someone special, you can never think of pulling off something like this.
Srikanth, you truly deserve this album to be a big hit! I will do my part by encouraging my family and friends to buy a copy each (or I will purchase it and gift it to them ;-) ) next week when I will be in India for a vacation.
RajaG, when I heard Mogaththai without the vocals, I told Srikanth that this would be the ideal song for you. You must feel so proud of your performance! You have probably the most melodious voice I've heard in person and from the small sample that I heard I simply can't wait to hear the rest!
Sheela you and Srikanth cheated me on the video recording :-) But I was amazed by the way you played - and having seen the condition the Veenai was in, it only increases my awe for your playing skills!

Srikanth:
Mogaththai is very nice. Is it "Kamavardhani" + Something? I liked your flawless improvisation with Gamakas...Very well rendered! If not RajaG, it wouldn't be possible. He is truly gifted Artist. Since I don't understand Tamizh, I am seeing it only from Music point of view. I believe that Music is language of languages by itself.
Just Kidding...
Have some doubt:-)) would you identify people by the following:-))
- "Maga Ganapathi" instead of "Maha Ganapathi"
- "Simbly" instead of Simply
- Geomentry instead of Geometry:-))
- Web Development as "Beb Debelopment"
==========================================
Kakai song rhythm arrangements have shades of a song in Lagaan...Is this style similar/familiar?
You deserve this album to be well appreciate from Musical Elements point of view...but I think the thread is in detour...
Good Job by TFM regulars - This page has made certain bonds between people...so credits to newtfmpage.
Later...

Aditya

"amazing when i think how newtfmpage brought you guys together..like minded people..a group"
Sriks and Srinath are "like minded people"??? It shows you(peeps) haven't read the archives properly ;-)
newtfmpage can bring even unlike minded people, make "quarreling duo" into "duo making others to quarrel" ;-))
unfortunately i cannot dnload mp3 so could not listen to our people's performance :-((
if any of you have listened to the album fully can you post your review of it(except by sriks, srinath, rajaG and others who did it, ofcourse). Other reviewers, if you are IR fans then think that this album is by ARR and viceversa and then do your review ;-)

Kupps , ofcourse srinanth and I are like minded - good music is our goal :)
-- Others involved: my good friend Udhaya, who is a long time df'er wrote two line transaltions in english for each song., this appears in the CD.
I would say all my friends here , because it is them who encouraged me 100%, this created a purpose for doing music in the middle of a very very tight work schedule.

Ok, since IR had mentioned, "we all had good time...." for people who don’t know who IR is, a quite popular DF contributor in ROS thread.
I(sai) R(asigai) aka Sheela Raman is a very good Veena vidwan, She is a well trained Carnatic musician. Infact, a real pro than most of us; we had the great pleasure of utilizing Sheela’s Veena skills (and of course the Masala Tea making skills :).
The album became more rich and colourful with natural instruments. Like every other recording session of mine once again we had great musical time! , with 2 "string" players around - keyboard guy was watching them peform, it was a real fun :)

Srikanth,
It was nice to hear your audio trailer. Sure makes one eager to listen to the fuller version. The first thing that struck me was the quality of recording. It is amazing that you could achieve the quality that one can obtain only in professional studios. I must say it was much better to the quality of recording I find in most of the recent Tamil cine songs. As for the songs, it is difficult to pass a comment after listening to them in bits and pieces. My personal feelings were kind of mixed. The flow of tune, I have observed in fusion music, is often obtrusive to its wholeness as a musical piece. The ear that is accustomed to one pattern of music, gets a feeling of jarring, when suddenly an alien pattern is forced in. I haven’t heard a large range of fusion music to know if someone was really able to smoothly glide over the sharp transitions of two different streams of music, but I certainly felt it wasn’t smooth in those songs of yours. I have felt the same listening even to a virtuoso like Dr.L.Subramanian. Probably I have a defective ear ! But then it is worth passing on a comment since this forum is meant for it. I also make it since you have mentioned somewhere in your website that MSV and Beatles are some of your inspirations. They exhibited a richness in their music which was characterized by the “natural” flow of a tune, which, I felt was a little lacking behind your tunes.
You sure do exhibit great talent and I wish you good luck in your future endeavors.

Vishvesh, thanks,
if i could become a beatle or a msv with 1 album...nothing like that :):), Thanks for your comments however I wish you get the cd and give a complete hearing, often we cannot tell the story and screen play of a movie by watching a trailor, we can just know who acted in it and a basic outline can be obtained :) finally, it is nice to read reviews...:):)

Oct 2nd , 2002 Wendesday, A day to remember for me for 2 reasons.
1. Gandhi jayanthi.!, other, read below.
“Pon kidaithalum Budhan kidaikathu” however I found gold on this day. I had the great pleasure of working with the Legend himself, Shri SPB or Balu sir however you call him.
Getting SPB to sing in my album has been one of my dreams, and with the help of (singer) Srini and my wife who coordinated my schedule it was very smooth.; we got hold of the legend to sing 2 tracks. He agreed at once, thanks to Mr.Vital his PA who made things very easy, a well-organized PA.All this happened 2 week prior to the recording,
However still I was tensed because how can I teach or explain to SPB himself to “what to sing” or how to sing my tune. “Veenai ke nadam sollithara mathri” oru bayam kalandha oru iniya feeling, Oct 2nd, we had scheduled the recording at Rajive menon studio at 10:00am, he had not sung in that studio before. Keeping this in mind sound engineer Lawrence and I along with my wife were in the studio at 8.00am, we made sure we kept the tracks ready and not waste his time.
We spent the nervous 1.5 hrs , it was like flying from NY Kennedy to Pittsburgh on an American eagle flight. Every car passed on road I use go out and look. I was rechecking with my wife to make sure it is today and recording starts at 10.00am
Finally at 10:00am, SPB came in his big Mercedes Benz; he introduced himself forgetting the fact that entire country knows him quite well. My wife welcomed him on behalf of JSRI productions. He walked directly into the vocal room. Wasted no time, His asst gave a sliver colored box to him, this contained his notebook, headphone and a tape recorder. He gave a blank tape to the sound engineer and asked him to record the keyboard track in which I had played the melody.
Then he asked me to get the Bharathi lyrics book, we sat together, the notebook has been specially designed for him, it contains columns for composer, engineer, studio, producer etc. It was a really proud moment for me when he wrote “Srikanth” under the composer column. He enquired about the album artists who were involved; also we spoke little about Pittsburgh, US etc. I told him I am amateur making my first album real time, for that he replied sweetly Srikanth, everyone is an amateur, if I am a pro I would sing this track in 5 minutes and walk away. Don’t worry I will do my best I can.
He then started to write the lyrics, he writes in his mother tongue Telugu. He can read Tamil and write Tamil, which he demonstrated. The reason for him to write in Telugu was he couldn’t give up his mother tongue. At this moment my respect for this man grew by few more feet.
He wrote the lyrics and asked some general questions on the track etc. By then Lawrence got the recorded Tape back to him. SPB told me to give him about 15 minutes he will check the track and get back to me in case of doubts, seeing me a little tensed, told me to relax and asked me to go to the mix room.
The longest 15min passed. Suddenly from room he calls my name, “Srikanth shall we record”. Kaiyum odala kalum odala, both for Lawrence and me. :-)
The track was played, to my shock he sang 100% what I had played on the keyboard melody track, though I had the notation for the song in hand, I never gave him or explained him anything, simply Perfect to the core!, with the same good old “Balu” feel which all of us have been enjoying for the past 34+ years. He just syncopated the entire song in the 15 mins that he spent alone. He perfectly sang the pallavi repeats, and change overs, etc. Seriously in my tiny experience, I have not seen a singer so accurate and professional at first go. Then I told myself, “come on ”- it is SPB.
After singing the first 2 lines he asked me “is the music director happy for these 2 lines”, forgetting the fact I am the music director, I was just enjoying the way he sang the pallavi, Lawrence kicked my leg to told sir is asking something, I just replied “perfect sir” . With in about 40 mins he completed the track; he told me I would not improvise because you being a new composer I should not take the liberty. However I told him to please go ahead if you feel something needs to be better – sugarcane thinna meterkumela ChargeA!,
Next song was Chinan chiru keliye, same 15 minute exercise, that’s it, the song was recorded, one interesting thing happened during this recording, he stopped at every Charanam and told me this is a very complex composition, keep it up. “I will do my best to hit the right notes” nu soonar. I felt really happy and so was my brother who was sitting next to me watching his idol sing.
One more important thing, after my recordings, Spb had one more song to go for the day, music by none other than Bhavadharani for a telugu movie, She dropped in and she introduced herself to me, I congratulated her for being the rare women composers in film music. I wished her good luck. She is very nice person; we come to know about people only after we meet them in person.
I consider this as a major achievement in my life. Spb the pro, the true gentle man, a down to earth person finally, SPB is our SPB, It was a great pleasure for me in having a legend sing 2 tracks in my first ever album.
Thanks for reading.
