The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

nandhaa has really good music i must admit...that mun paniye number by SPB and that ilayaraja songs are really a pleasure for the ears... i'm starting to like YSR...good music...
adhithi visalakshi,
how can u expect a new album to be like an old one (PP like Duet????) what nonsense to think that way...hey friends, we are all still talking about film music, isn't it? so the songs should go in one hand with the film, isn't it? u can't put for example kaadhalan songs like urvasi and pettai rap into a film like dil se, right?
so, u should at least first see the film PP to judge if the songs are okay, or not (for the film)... the songs in PP are not so immature like u think...it's freaky (some of them), that's right...but that doesn't mean immature...
but, okay, okay, the title of this thread is 'nandhaa songs' and not 'PP thread', so'll stop now.
sorry for the 'non-nandhaa' part of this message...

helo RAYCAS or whatever..you term adhiti visalakshi's views as 'non-sense'...this is exactly what she perhaps meant when she said PP was for 'freaky romeo'/immature kids of today (like you,who does not seem to know how to 'debate' and just argues like a school kid)...NANDHAA is worth every single penny while PP is pure techno-sounds with half-baked carnatic backdrop.....the classical choice in PP is pathetic, while NANDHAA is exceptional on every count (say choice of singer, BGM for the song, carnatic ragam selection, mood created by the song etc)...You cry hoarse that we cannot put kaadhalan songs like urvasi and pettai rap into a film like dil se. My dear baby, don't you think your arguement does not hold water...'Doli sajake rakhna' songs were used for 'Jodi'(different story lines)..'Ritu aa gayi re' was used for 'macha machiniye'(a weather song shifted for a love/lust song)...Rehman just doesn't care to be in TFM anymore.... All IMHO....Why do you people find it so hard to accept the bare truth that PP is poor and NANDHAA is comparatively of very high standards? (and i assure you i am an harcore lover of ARR..BUT am a better lover of good music and can accept it wherever it comes from...PP is nowhere near say DUET as adhithi points out)

abhinetri;
>>NANDHAA is comparatively of very high standards<<
spot on dude, the success of duet is SPB + ARR, duet gardly had any PC music in it, only song in duet with fast Computer beats is the song "Vennila vil", Rendered by KJY, but the rest of the songs spirits were enchanced by SPB, who takes us to heaven in "Anjali Anjali", "mettu podhu", "en kadhale en kadhale (SPB's vocal in this song is superb)".
thanks

The vocals on Nandha were outstanding and the orchestration was top class. The raga selection and handling by Yuvan shows how naturally gifted he really is. The Mun Paniyaa will definately get the state award this time :-)

yep, state award is definite for SPB's "mun paniyaa", and YSR might also get a state award.

Why not another "Padmashree from Annamalai University"?? (which, by the way, "is a national award")

I see Nandhaa songs as a trend setter. People are getting bored of the Drum beat & Hip shaking songs.

I agree with you, YSR's music is a different trend , with elements of carnatic music, take the song "Mun Paniya", which has some carnatic elements to it, Vidhyasagar is an another excellent carnatic music director, who has been underated in TFM!

I heard Nandthaa songs. I think my expectations were too much. Murder of Thirupaavai. Change of lines changed the entire meaning.

Precisely my point NagaS. You can't say that Yuvan has done a bad job based on the lyrics.Afterall,Yuvan did not write them. I saw the review for Nandha in tamilcinema.com and It looks like Nandha will be a hit movie Contrary to the posting of Saarika.

Madhav,
IMO, Nandha is one rare TFM album where - almost all songs have good lyrics - Exception being Thiruppaavai song ...

raycas...this is for your information...
1)Review of PP in chennaiweb.com - "A.R. Rahman's music is terrible. He must have been dozing while composing because you will also doze when you listen to the songs. The best thing to do would be to "Mute" your stereo system if you still want to listen to the songs. They sound much better then !!!"
2)Review of PP in sify.com - "The music of the film is worth a snore. Did A.R.Rahman really provide music for the film? There is not even a single number, which stays in your mind after you leave the hall."

Hi Naga,
I listened all the songs. "Mun Paniya" was good. But I remembered the meter of "vaazve maayama". Other songs are average. YSR can do better than this.

Abhinetri,
PP is poor?? Hmmm good for u then.
Neutral fan,
Two reviews like that cannot make PP's music bad. If u want to say PP's music is bad based on those reviews, good for u. Or by the way, may be u wanna look at Shashi's review of PP in this site itself. A rose by any name smells sweet, even if someone says it smells bad.

Got a chance to see Nandha on big screen,
All songs fit pretty well with the movie (Amma endRaalee song is coming only for 1 minute, Rest of the song is not there !), BGM is also so good - Especially when Surya comes out of minor jail and searches for his mother and meets her in koyil ... Many other scenes had very nice BGM, Both for love sequences and amma-magan paasak kaatchikaL ! Very good effort from YSR,
He has composed one more song as part of BGM, I think it is sung by Harish Raghavender - May be 2 to 3 minutes duration, Lyrics are just wonderful, Gotta listen to the song again to make a comment about the tune !

I haven't seen the movie. So no comments on BGM. My wish is that Nandtha shouldn't be the scale to measure YSR.

Review of PP music in Music Magazine:
On this album he seems to be moving further towards music that is broken and non-linear. Question: is he moving towards creative abstraction or is he distracted? Your answer will depend on whether you are a die-hard fan or a less overwhelmed observer. Being musically inclined towards coherence than towards such distraction, I would rank Rahman's latest score lower than Bombay, Dil Se and Mudhalvan.
