The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

definitely ysr is not even half as good as ir. i think nandhaa songs r really overrated in this column. hardly 2 songs impress on the whole - spb and ir. the other songs sound stereotype... looks like i've heard these sound a thousand times before. definitely sethu was a better album... i dont fault ysr though. he's very young and has a long career ahead. but he doesn't deserve all these praises now for nandhaa's music. its nothing extraordinary..

nicetry equating nandhaa to absolute classics like mouna raagam and sindhu bhairavi. MR and SB were fantastic, out of the world, that i still keep wondering how such great music can be composed. dont think nandhaa is anywhere near them.

I was so happy to read the reviews of Azaghi on the other thread. Both the dad and son are going to create waves. Hoping to see TFM back in the game again.

Nandha - This is a next feather in the Yuvan's cap. Already the sale of the cassette is proving it. I heard from my friends that the sales is really very remarkable and as per my friend who is having Star Musicals in Trichy, Nandha is number one in sale and number two Manathai Thirudi vittai. It is really great to hear the news.

Thought of posting here after going thru few other threads. I ranked my favourite songs in Nandhaa in this thread. Many others did the same too. But there is another thread where songs are listed as Best song at first hearing, Best song after 3-4 hearings.. Excellant song after several hearings. Thanks to YSR for giving such wonderful songs which I started liking right from the first moment.

I listened to Nanda's songs. Songs were great.
- "Munpaniyaa" is my first pick, beautiful soft rhythm, gentle tune and it was great to hear SPB sing a softy single after a long time. The chorus humming also adds pep to the song.
- "Engengo" rendered by IR is good too, the interludes are great. Another good melody. It is like IR is the one for those philosophical songs.
- "Maayane" has a great chanting of mantra initially and blends to a classical song. It is really nice, but I felt it reminded me of some old song(may be from Devar Magan or somewhere). song ends in a great way too.
- "Kalliyadi Kalli" has sinhalese lyrics, and is a great song too. YSR has blended the soft tunes and humming with the song which uses chenda melam for the base rhythm. This guy has real stuff.
- "Amma endralayae" easily reminds you of sethu's climax song,BGM etc, but that is o.k. IR has used his base voice and his higher pitch beautifully. Another good song.
- "Oraayiram Yaanai" looks like a fiery song praising some one(I guess it should be for Raj Kiran), anyway is an o.k song too.
Over all this album is worth the buy.

Munpaniyaa is my pick, SPB once proves that he is the Ultimate, no one could have done justice to this song other than SPB!
overall the album is very good, Vidyasagar's thavasi is also excellent.

well Nandha songs are way better than this PP crap, Mun paniya is superbly rendered by SPB, he is still the DON, have you guys noticed how he switches from low notes to high notes, it is simply amazing, there is no other singers in India 2day, who can rule over SPB in HIGH PITCHES.
listen to this legend's voice, at 55, he sounds like a 25 year old, KJY at 60 sounds like 60, Hariharan sounds too nasal, Unni Krishnan is too feminine, Shanker strain too much.
SPB is uncomparable.
capoot finito!

Well... I don't know How many I've listened to Nandhaa songs this weekdend. This is the album after Naadodi Thendral I'm listening so many times in the same day. My judgement is YSR have done far beyond expectations. Aaiyram Yaanai song by Unni Krishnan Sounds too great to me today. The same is Kalli adi Kalli. I would rate all the songs equally.
All the songs are Packed with a lot of Hard work, sentiments and emotions ultimately rendering a wonderful feelin to my ears and heart. I wish the producers use all the songs in the movie.
I would say itz been a long time since such a wonderful album was released in Tamil. The quality of composition equals IR.
I will keep listening to these songs again and again. I'm becoming a great fan of YSR, first time a shift from IR.

Suchitra Lata, reviewing 'Nandhaa' in themusicmagazine.com writes -
"This is Yuvan Shankar Raja growing up to recognise his roots. He composes unafraid of the "international" sounds to which composers are expected to conform these days.."

Please do not compare PP with Nandhaa...PP is perhaps only for the 'freaky romeo' kids of today (i expected atleast a 'DUET' kind of stuff)...i am sorry that KB accepted such immature stuff from rehman...Rehman has been fored to use so many 'gimmicks' to make a song 'feel' good while YSR has made it simple and 'down to earth' stuff, which is still far better in any standards.Nandhaa is just too good...The guy YSR has shown excellent maturity in handling the songs well...He is making his marks strongly in the TFM world...

Appearently, Barathirajah gave huge hug to SPB & YSR, and said, "Me & and your Dad (IR), had our differences, but you have melted my heart with your music & also praised SPB for his performance , stating he is still no 1
