The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

Yes Mun paniya has sucha haunting melody and I find myself humming it all the time. I think this is one of the best albums of the year and I hope that the movie is just as great as the audio.
I heard the film is rumoured to be a smash hit after sethu.Any comments?

IR_FAN,
Yes, Indeed I am doubly excited. Great and Thanks that u have got me....(remember me!!!) I too recognise you !!!
I am delighted that Yuvan is making a mark of his own yet reminding us of his GREAT Father's composing style. I am also watching out for him as I usually do it for the Maestro.
Pity me...I have not listened to Engengo by Maestro fully but for the pallavi. I will put it in my ears soon......

the good thing is NANDHAA is also a classical treat. "Engengo kaalgal" is keeravani raga, "maayane antha" is sindhu bhairavi, "amma endrale" is panthuvarali, "oor aayiram yaanai" is again an excellent panthuvarali. I wish YSR keeps up the tempo right up to NANDHAA's standards hereafter....He is one huge wiz-kid into the horizon...Way to go YSR, Way to go.....Watch out for biggies like Maniratnam, Shankar et al,they might soon be coming knocking at your door....

Guys I am absolutely stuck on th Engengo song.I feel it was marvellously rendered by IR and the orchestration for it was beautiful. What surprises me more is that YSR has not learned any music at all and plays himself.I am amazed with the raga selection and I feel that they are perfectly suited to the songs of Nandha.
For such a young guy he has made a great impact to TFM and I think the film by Bala will do justice to these great gems by Yuvan.I look forward to hearing more of his music and his various styles in the long term future.

Jeyan, you said..//"What surprises me more is that YSR has not learned any music at all and plays himself.//"
IR once said about YSR," Edhuvum Kathukkaamaleye avanukku ellam varum." (meaning," he does not need to learn anything..it will come to him naturally.")
Jeyan, if you are baffled with "Engengo" in NANDHAA, what would u say about "Amma endraale" sung by IR in NANDHAA...i was dumbstruck by the 'pathos-mood' of the song, and the way YSR has composed the BGM and the way IR has rendered it...brilliant is the word!!
And as far as carnatic raga selection goes for "NANDHAA", YSR has revived the mis-conception that TFM had lost its 'classical carnatic home' in recent times. Panthuvarali (used in two songs), Keeravani, Sindhu Bhairavi have been treated well in this film, very apt selections suiting the situation. Eager to see how the songs have been picturized though.

Hi guys it's nice to see that this forum has been progressing well in my absence. I think this must be the only thread left on TFM Page that has not been disturbed with stupid comments and comparisons of little or no relevance. I have been away fro a while but in these days away I have had ample opportunity to listen to all of the new audio releases such as PP,Shajahan, Nandha, Thavasi and Alavanthan. I can still be firm in my initial expression that Nandha tops all of the albums. I have listened it to it many times trying to understand the technical nuances and intricate swara patterns in the music and as mentioned above, I too am baffled with Yuvans classical ability. At first I though that maybe the ragas used were not appropriate for the songs as they are ragas that have been used on numerous occasions by other MD's but I was completely wrong. The ragas bring out the true emotion and feeling of every song. Engengo was a truly great song for Nandha, as was Amma endrale and Mun Paniya. The contrast of Revathi for the sloka and Sindhubhairavi for the song Maayane are simply spectacular. Or Ayiram in Panthuvarali and Amma endrale show no similarity despite being in the same raga and that is a great hing because when you hear song now that are in similiar raga's you hear hints of the other songs as well. YSR has overcome this fault immaculately.
IMHO I feel that this is an album that ranks with Mouna Ragam,Apoorva Sagotharargal and Sindhu Bhairavi in that I will be hearing it for many years to come and it will stay in my mind for a long while.

May Be YSR is yet to give a SindhuBhairavi for us ? According to ambalam.com - Both KR and YSR are muRaippadi learning carnatic music !
IMO, I will rate Nandha as high as Mauna Ragam ! (or Kaathalukku mariyaathai if you want a latest example)., My pick(s) of the album - 'Ammaa endRaalee' and 'KaLLi adi kaLLi' .,
After 'Ammaa endRazaikkaatha Uyirillaiyee' , This is the second best Amma song I am listening to, Very well sung by IR !

NagaS I too read the article in ambalam.com and a friend of mine is very close with KR. I asked who the new teacher was and I was told that KR and YSR are not learning music Muraipadiya.Only Bhavatharini is learning from Sri.O.S Thiyarajan. KR and YSR are thinking about learning the basics it seems, but no decision has been made as yet. This is what led me to say that makes Nandha even more of an achievement to YSR.

nandha movie, probably is going to make a history..just read that people have appreciated that no such movie has yet been made in TFM. Hats off Bala!..I love to see your movies..you are such a dedicated guy who look something more than money..just browse this website...

YSR..your songs were just great after 3 times of listening..it appears there is lot of feeback/input from father..I now believe that TFM music is still not dead..Gave an excellent break for TFM listeners, whose ears had just gone dumb by sole hard beat music(noise)...Keep going with this pace...We will see an up coming Junior Isaignani...

Nandhaa sounds like absolute team work. The encouragement by the producers to the director. There was so much news about how Bala was working with YSR to get what he wanted. The greatest thing is, YSR could give what Bala wanted. YSR have also given what TFM listernes wanted as rightly told by Fliflo.

Fliflo, I believe that you have given the correct name for Yuvan as Junior Isaignani. The Nandha songs sound like a mature musician with many years experience in the industry has scored for them. Bala was quoted as saying that Yuvan has a great talent and it was easy to bring it out in him while working.I would like to hear now how the BGM will be, if it is anything as good as the songs, I can see that Nandha will be the superhit of the year. Also the story of Nandha is fascinating and if the story is what I heard it will be a super smash hit in India as well as abroad.
Hats off to Yuvan :-)
