Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

Pennathur:
Just like your opinion on IR, my opinions are that the so called improvizations that ARR supposedly has brought to Indian music is more hype and promotion than actual. Much of such music has been incorporated in IR's music before. What ARR did was just stuck to one style of music appealing to the 'hip" crowd and did not attempt for variety. hence the perception of improvizations. Whereas IR mastered in variety giving folk, carnatic, jazz, rock and western classicals simultaneously. In addition, the PR machine of ARR has built up these hype about his achievements and accopmplishments - but if someone objectively compares the contributions, I would be very surprised if the rality matches the hype - I, for one, dont think so. I hope in passage of time, when people who havent been influenced by the PR machine of the ARR, manratnam, shankar era, analyze and perceive his music for what it is.

Don't we ever have good words for people who are great achievers? IR and ARR are both splendid MD's. As for Boyz, it is high time it was out by now. I remember how much of a damp squib PP turned out to be. KM also did not satisfy people's craving for vintage ARR, as there were just two or three full length good songs (other songs were either short or were too frivolous).

I will have good words when people achieve. I am not going to be the one who will be swayed by hype created by PR

"I spent the last ten days listening to about 3 hours of music everyday -TFM, jazz, WCM, movie themes etc"
If you were listening to IR's BGM then were all the pieces, you were comparing it with, composed for same (or atleast similar) situations (including the nativity issue) and with the same technology available in the said year?.
If so can you please give a list of some scores so that I can enjoy listening to them.I have a quite a collection of movie themes, can borrow WCM from others too. TIA.
Digression (rather big):
Some comments:
I enjoyed IR's movies just because the BGM is good since I was 10 years old and did not even know who IR was till much later. I am 26 now, I have not forgotten some of the scores from his movies, even though I have watched these movies so long ago on TV once.
"The very thought that someone can actually compete with IR and rock the entire nation with a single number at a time appears deeply galling to more than a few out here. "
I did not know the ARR is competing with IR for something. Even IR's songs have rocked the nation. If nation=North India, then they rock all the time to ARR's songs. If nation=South India, then we haven't yet stopped rocking from IR's songs.
"In the meanwhile FM can be safely left to more adroit MDs such as ARR and the new crop."
Good idea. But why do you just have ARR's name. I'll name some let me know if you heard their music. These people are equally if not more talented than ARR, but no PR or backing.
Sri (telugu MD, movies, Gayam, Sindhuram, Little Soldiers, Money, all telugu. Brilliant and Creative.)
Mahesh (recently deceased, movies Nammavar (tamil), Preminchukundam Raa, Paadutha Teeyaga (both telugu))
Devi Sri Prasad ( telugu/tamil, movies, Devi (telugu/tamil) he was only 17 when he score for Devi! , Navvuthoo Bathakalira, Anandam, Kalusukovalani (both remade in tamil), Manmadhudu, Khadgam(both telugu) (check out Nuvvu Nuvvu song for some music that is out of this world )
Sharath (malayalam MD, check out the thread on sharath in this forum)
For BGMs:
Mani Sharma, Raj-Koti (telugu/tamil)
I don't know many others in other languages, others please expand this list.
"I am utterly surprised at the unwilliingness of many to concede the ease with which ARR has brought back improvisation to Indian TFM and the quantum leap in musicianship that is clearly recognisable in his music"
I am surprised that on one side you are telling that IR should go on to divine music. According to you he hasn't done anything revolutionary since ARR is the one who has brought in the "quantam leap" in musicmanship. It's quite contradicting.
Finally, it's only a very unreasonable person who would completely scorn ARR's music. If his music is appealing and good, sure IR fans will welcome it. Why do you assume that IR fans don't give ARR's music a chance at all? If Parasuram's music is any indication, his quality is on it's way to hit rock bottom. How can you expect IR fans to continue patronising such mediocre output?
digression (end)
I hope Boys turns out for your sake atleast and all music lovers' sake.

It has been a 'maya' for Karthik
It has been a prolific year for him. From a chorus singer to one of the leading names in the film industry, it has come a full circle for Karthik. The young man, blessed with a good voice has climbed the popularity charts, coming up with one hit number after the other.
It all started with Maya, Maya in Baba (a Rajni-starrer) and he has not looked back since. In between he has raked up hits like Moondrezhuthu Ketta (Parthalae Paravasam), Oliyilae (Azhagi), Theradi Veedhiyil (Run), to name a few. He is now counted as one of the best in the industry and has already worked with leading music directors.
In a chat with M Bharat Kumar, Karthik, shares his views on the Tamil film music industry, western influence and role models.
Q: How did it all begin?
A: I was a chorus singer for A R Rehman for a few years. He asked me to sing the track for Maya Maya song in Baba. Attracted by my voice, he gave me an opportunity to sing it ultimately. It was indeed a dream come true for me. Thanks to Rehman, my life took a new turn and today I am a successful playback singer.
Q: Were you thrilled to sing for Rajnikanth ?
A: Certainly. My joy knew no bounds then. It is great for any youngster to sing for Rehman and that too for Rajnikanth. I gave my best for the song, which became popular, thanks to Almighty.
Q: On your role models?
A: I have always admired S P Balasubramaniam and Hariharan. Their melancholy voice had always inspired me. They are the people who have impressed me with their songs. I love the voice of Shankar Mahadevan too.
Q: Compare contemporary Tamil film music with that of the early 60s and 70s.
B: The sound has certainly improved a lot today. We have advanced technical facilities and the entire scenario is different. We have to live with the age. However, with limited facilities the music composer of yesteryear were able to churn out scintillating tunes.
Q: Relevance of classical music in present day film music?
A: Classical music still has its hold on film music. The recent hit Kana Kanden Thozhi in Parthiban Kanavu is inspired by a pure classical raga. Though Western music too holds sway, classical and carnatic music still occupy a prominent place.
Q: Is knowledge of classical music must for a playback singer?
A: S P Balasubramaniam is an exception. However, if you know about the work you do, it would be of great help. I feel knowledge of classical music would be handy.
Q: Your future goals?
A: I have no big plans, but to concentrate on my work and give it my best. I believe I should be sincere and dedicated in what I do.
Q: Favourites among your songs?
A: I have sung about 100 songs. I like Maya Maya (Baba), Moondrezhuthu Ketta (Parthalae Paravasam), Oliyilae (Azhagi), Theradi Veedhiyil (Run), Aval Ulaga Azhagiyae (Lesa Lesa) and Aval Yar Aval (Anbu) . Lined up for me are for the movies Iyarkai, Boyz and Whistle.
