I feel of-late there are fewer songs from SPB! I am of the opinion we should use SPB more and more in his life time because there is never going to be another SPB!
Due respect to other singers and no denying the fact that new singers should be given opportunities. This intention of this discussion is not to offend fans of other singers.
Why our music directors do not reaslise this?

Not absolutely sure if Chitra is in her 50's. But one thing is quite clear she is in 40's at least.
Remember, she was a late starter in film music (1985 or so).

The website www.SPBala.com states that SPB sang songs in many laguages. Among the listed ones
are the names of oria and Tulu. Oriya is the
language of Orissa. Tulu is a Dravidian language
spoken in Tamil Nadu (as far as my knowledge
goes). But I don't think there would be any films
made in this language. So what might be the format
of SP songs in Tulu? folk? rachna? or what?

tulu is one of the laguanges spoken in karnataka not in tamil nadu. Its possible that kannada movies are either dubbed into tulu or he could have sung a tulu song in a kannada movie. Well I am just guessing here...
I am pretty sure that chitra was a teenager when she sang her first song in tamil. She must be 34 or 35, I think.

Can some one tell me the year of this song?
which featured in a movie named "janani",
music was by MS Vishwanaathan. It was a
duet sung by S.P.B and V.J.
Being a non Tamilian I will transcribe the
wording of this Tamilian song as:
"Angam pooladangam adai lengum........ adai vaaraayo naanum burave...."

Your comments about the film "Janani" song mentioned above? Is not it a fine job by MSV,
specially the inter-stanza music. Average good
performance by S.P.B, fine rendering by VJ.

I know that this songs it from 80's but the point was: which year. It can be from 1982-83 to
89-90. And this ambiguity is a beauty of this
fine song. One can derive the approximate year of
most of songs. But this one is one of those of which you cannot tell exactly.

More on 'Janani'. It was produced by 'Gemini Productions' (I don't know if they were related in any way to the old 'Gemini' Vasan family.) It came in 1985. Directed by Netaji, who wrote the lyrics as well. Superb music by MSV, having 4 great songs:
1.Konjum malar manjam- SPB-VJ
2.Aadurathu yaaru- SPB-SJ
3.Manikka maattaya-KJY
4.Manikka maattaya-PS
The film starred newcomers- Udaykumar and Bhavya.
Interestingly as the film 'Geetanjali' also was released around the same time and it too had a Bhavya as heroine (along with Nalini), Janani Bhavya called herself "Gemimi" Bhavya!
It was a usual love story, set in a college.
However since the film bombed at the box office, the lovely songs sank without a trace.

The following went erraneously to another
"thread".
About 1984-85 there was a Hindi film made,
with the cast of Meenakshi etc. The film was
christened as "Swati". Meenakshi Seshaadri
played an angry righteous young female's
role. The hindi version had some songs by SPBS.
Interestingly, the Kannara version had KJ
yassu Daas' voice.
There was a humorous song rendered by SP Subraamanyam in that movie. It was one of
the few high quality songs by SP Baaloo in
Hindi (sorry Raghu). Can anyone identify the
song -- the humorous, comical one.
