  is the raga of song-of-the-day "Poo Kodiyin" similar to the raga of "Mauname Paarvaiyal" by PBS? I can easily move from one song to the other in the opening lines.

  yesterday i saw the film Manidharil iththanai nirangaLa acted by Kamal, Sridevi and others. It had one very good all women song ponnae bhoomiyarae; aaaa sai sai sai sai. I have the feeling that this song is "structurally" similar to the song isayil thodangudhamma of Hey! Ram. Has anyone heard of the former song? Is my "feeling" correct? Are these songs related anyways (Raaga etc)?

  Did you check out Karthik Raja's new film album titled, 'Album'?
  
  I found it to be a very good, one of the better albums in recent times. Many are semi-classical numbers, with ragas ranging from 'Reeti GowLa', 'GowriManOhari', 'Dharmavathy', 'BrinAvana sArangA', 'Suddha DhanyAsi', 'kApi', 'Sri Ranjani' etc.

  Yes,
  Chellamai Chellam is KeeravANi I think.
  'Kadhal vanOli' starts with reeti GowLai and then transitions to Gowri manOhari which blends with Dharmavathy in parts! After a long time we have Gowri Manohari in TFM.
  
  IR has composed the following Gowri ManOhari songs: (there may be more)
  1. Dhoorathil Nan kaNda un mukham (nizhalgaL; S.Janaki)
  2. Pon vAnam Panneer thoovudu innEram (Indru Nee nALai nAn; S.Janaki)
  3. KaNNA varuvAyA (Manadhil Urudhi vENdum; Yesudas, Chitra)
  4. ChOlaip Poovil MAlai Thendral (VeLLai rOja?, SPB, Janaki)
  5. Adhi kAlai nilavE alangAra chilayE (Urudhi mozhi, Jayachandran, Janaki)
  6. VAzhkkayile kashtap pattu nondhavanukkellAm (VathyAr veettu piLlai; SPB: a 'thaNNi' song, unusual use of this raga)
  Of course there is MSV's Gowri ManOhariyai kaNden (Mazhalaip pattALam) and SukhamAna rAgangaLe (one of the ragamalika ragas; Mridanga Chakravarthy)

  I am yet to hear KR's album. Thanx for the info.
  The songs which you have mentioned Gowrimanohari are in fact not so. No MD will think of raga GM for even a thanni song. The songs composed resembling GM or its janyam VeLavaLi are mere influences. Heard MS in film Meera ..hey hare dhayaana mere piya nandalala...based on Hindustani raga Patdip. Okay? Included Yeh ayyaswamy (varusham 16) and Velakkethu velakkethu vellikkizhamai (Per sollum pillai) also to the list above. The rest later.

  What do you mean by 'mere influences'? I guess you mean they are not 100% Gowri ManOhari?
  Please explain. Have you heard the 'thaNNi' song I am talking about? It seems Gowri ManOhari to me.
  
  BTW, Hey AyyAsamy is Dharmavathy I think, not Gowri manOhari. (Note the Ma2)

  In fact there's a very good Sohni number in TFM:
  'kalayum NeeyE mAlayum NeeyE'
  Some people say it's HamsAnandi. But it is Sohni, I think, as it uses Ma1 in addition to Ma2. (Note the line: 'kAttrum NeeyE Kadalum NeeyE'

  PArtha Vizhi has been composed in the Mela kartha raga, 'pAvani'. There are not many Carnatic krithis in this rarely used raga and it's probably the only film song composed in the raga.
