  You mean IR's Sriranjani(SR) songs. ONe thing u should understand. IR has a penchant for sr right from the beginning. Even when they were Pavalar bros. they composed one with Nagore EMHanifa the song goes like..Nabhi vazhi nadanthal naragamillai..again. SR comes automatically to IR as I have been stressing this aspect. Remember his En ragangal ellam unthan padalgaley..(Orey mutham?). Again this Komberi mookkan Roja ondru mutham ketkum neram...He takes SR as the base and blends it to suit the situation inthe movie. FM u know is only a blend music.

  Thanx for the response. I have done some progs. of GR classics inthe past. NO idea at present. Reg the transcript of KVM prog. I do have it. How can I reach you? Anyway I am planning to give a prog. of only TMS raga-based classics of 1950s alone sometime in Dec 2002.

  for most songs u've mentioned it would be better if we say they have a Bageshri base(even the Komberi mookkan song seems to have more Bageshri base than Sriranjani base)...all IMVHO(I do know that Bageshri and SR are close ragams...but just telling what I feel)

  Does that help you decide the raga of the song?
  (I'm assuming that MSV was giving a hint of the raga here.)
  Note that ni seems to be stressed.

  Saama is such a wonderful raaga. Saama takes me nostalgic back to the 40s era where PUCHinnappa sings Maanamellam pona pinney vazhvathuthan oru vazhva...(as kovalan) in Kannagi MD SVVenkataraman. I am now reminiscent of another romantic duet of CNPandurangan in Indira en selvam--Kannipparuvam aval manathil enna ninaithaalo (PBS/Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi,artistes:S.A.Asokan & Pandaribai). Another scintillating melody Jagadamba..pedhaikkiranguvathu vamba veru gathi ethu...(Papanasam Sivan/P.Leela/Adapalli Rama Rao/Kanavaney Kann kanda deivam). There are songs from later movies also.
  
  IMO, R O S = R O (IR) S?
  Y less Pre IR? Nobody knows or what?
  
  Incidentally, IR's Saama is Sandhakkavigal paadidum..(Metti/Brahmanandham)

  As i observed, Sama is a favorite of MSV. There are 3 songs by MSV in Sama -
  
  1. Mounathil...
  2. Naan Paadi Konde... (VJ song, Sirai.. what a classical rendition by VJ )
  3. Kannile Kudiyirunthu Karunai Thanrum Deivam Onru... (TMS song from Sivaji's Imayam)
  
  Any other songs?
  
  Any confirmation on 'Annan Oru Koil...' and ' Chandira Pirai Parthen...'

  When i think of Sriranjani by MSV, 2 numbers come to my mind immediately-
  
  1. Naathamenum Koyilile... (as usual wonderful VJ solo song, from Manmadha Leelai)
  2. Managayaril Maharani... (SPB - PS song from Sridhar's Avalukku Enru Or Manam)

  There is a song of IR based on Sama it comes in the movie Metti ,hmm song name damn... forgot the song name but will get back to you on that.
  
  MSV - another Sriranjani -Thangaratham vanthathu
  (it may have close resemblance to abogi also).
  Abogi swaram is sa re ga ma da sa /sa da ma ga re sa
  Sriranjani is sa re ga ma da ni(1st) sa / sa ni(1) da ma ga re sa
  very close as you can see Nishadam makes the difference
  Best one of IR on
  Abogi is -Endraikku En inda anandame from Vaitheki Kaathirundal
  Sriranjani-Naandum Ezhuthadi from Kopura vasalile with some beautiful violin interludes(VS Narasimman)

  Arabi,sudha saveri,durga these raagas are all closely related based on prayogam these smoothly blend into one another sometimes people confuse Hindustani version of raga names also
  I will write more about this Durga later
  There are some super hit songs based on Arabi from olden days to IR
  There is wonderful song in Aatham film sung by TN Seshagopalan its called 'Innarul Tharum Annapoorani' if i am right its based on raag Durga
  (TN Seshagopalan have sung with so many sangathis,gamakams amazing its available at Raaga.com)

  Actually, I gave "Ragapravaham Sundar" as the keywords
  to Google and got the two Hindu articles as hits.
  I gave the links since people here would be interested
  in knowing about him. He doesn't seem to be saying

  Diff between Vijayanagari and M.Sivaranjani--the presence of prati madhyamam M2 in V.nagari gives it a characteristic charm different from Sivaranjani.M.Sivaranjani is out of grammatical parameters that one can include ni also to add beauty.
  AruLarasan -- yes, the songs are available in the market.

  Annan oru kovil song has already been discussed here a few days back- browse old responses. Chandira pirai parthen is basically an arabic tune which corresponds to Hindustani Nat bhairav raga.

  song. Did MSV use any raga for it. If not, can you
