Moondram Pirai padathula Kamalkku bathila Sreedevikku award kudthirukkanum ...
SV Shekhar's timely comment on this was "Kamalkku kidaichathu Nadigar vangara award,Sridevikku kidaikkaththu Nadigaigal vangara award".
SPB has done a remarkable job, which he always does- But why such an uncharitable remark on VJ? VJ ,to me ,always represents the voice of the on/off-screen intelligent woman...say like JL,Lakshmi and even Sripriya (of those days when she was only a chinna paappa).
This is another nice work from SG-SPB.We can have a hearty laugh even today watching Sivakumar, the "kadhal drohi",vainly trying to bring SPB's emotions on screen.Viraga dhabhama? Burgolax saapitta expression..........

OISG, nadippu drOhi's expressions denote 'virasa dAbam' or 'viraga pAvam'. He manages to conjure up a worried/neurotic expression for no reason at all !!!! The Pugolax expression is yet another facet of this multi-faceted lover boy on screen. Pity his real-life partner.

Song of the Day: kaNgaL iraNdum from mannathi mannan.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/kangal.rm
- Sung by P.Suseela. Music by Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy. Lyrics by Kannadasan.
- What can one say about P.Suseela's rendition of this song! Her singing is magical; She captures the agony and despair of the heroine perfectly in this fast paced number. If she could get an award for "naaLai indha vELai paarththu", she surely deserved one more for this song. Credit should also go to MSV/TKR for bringing in the fast "thEdal" into the song. One would expect such a song to be a slow, dreary one, but by making it a fast number, the restlessness of the heroine is well brought out.
- Is this the only song in TFM that has the word "kaNaiyaazhi" in it?
- Lyrics in our PPP page: http://www.newtfmpage.com/ppp/kangal_irandum.html
- There are several good songs in this movie, like "aadaatha manamum uNdO", "neeyO naanO yaar nilavE" and "achcham enbathu madamaiyadaa". I would have featured the melodious neeyO naanO sung by PBS/Jamuna Rani/PS, if I had it.

OISG, listen to VJ spit out "thudiththidum" in the pallavi, and some more places in the charaNam. The overpronounciation sticks out like a sore thumb especially when the guy is singing effortlessly on the other end!

word 'kaNaiyAzhi' in it.

BTW, you brought back some very sweet memories with this song!

In today's SOTD, 3rd line the lyrics goes like this "Pachai kiliyaanal Parandhenum thEduvEn",
do you hear "Parandhenum" or "Karundhegam" or "Karundhenum"? I hear it as Karundhegam or sometimes close to Karundhenum.
In anycase I like this song very much :-).
This is definitely Not to prick on PS lovers.

Hi,
Another of those evergreen songs sung by PS. The lilt in her voice is what makes this special apart from the excellent orchestration of Vsiu-Ramu. But the song which I prefer more in that period (late fifties) of PS is 'En Vaazvil Pudhu Pathai Kanden, Kandum kaanamal Thadumari Ninren' in 'Thangappadumai'. There PS and VR exceed themselves. This is not to say the Mannadhi Mannan song is any less in captivating the listerners with its pathos. VR were the uncrowned kings of TFM in those days. and Mannadhi Mannan was one of their all-time best albums.

Song of the Day: kutram purindhavan vaazhkkaiyil nimmathi from Raththak kaNNeer.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/kutram.rm
- Sung by Chidambaram Jayaraman with voice over by M.R.Radha. In newtfmpage, there are a few posts that say the song is written by R.Krishnamurthy, a few that say the song is written by Udumalai Narayana Kavi and a few that say the song is written by Athmanathan! If that is not enough, there is confusion on the music director too. Several threads say that CSJ himself was the MD for the film, some mention Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy, and someone who caught the film on video mentions that the credits are to R.Sudharsanam for the songs and MSV/TKR for the BGM!
- This was the role of of a lifetime for M.R.Radha. Originally a stage production, this was made into a movie, directed by Krishnan-Panju. M.R.Radha acted as a rich hedonist who commits one blunder after another and finally becomes a leper. This song shows him repenting for all his sins. The short song is a poignant one, perfect for CSJ.

Though CSJ has sung songs in many moods equally well (Paavai Vilakku soundtrack alone is enough to show his greatness, but "anbaalae thaediya" and "Vinnoadum mugiloadum" will always be special for me) but this is probably his most remembered song. A colossal piece of work by the inimitable MRR. My friends and I still quote many dialogues from this movie so filled with zingers--"Jeevakaarunya thilagamaa? yaenyaa thoonguroappa moottaipoochi kadichaa enna pannuva?"
