"However, I also endorse the view that no singer is above the composer, it is he/she who owns the creation and comes up with the complexites of a song. "
Well said ..Peter Pan. Shouldn't this be obvious to anybody who understands how songs are made in Indian films ?

LV: a quick not. the olden day music directors/composers (HFM!!) have copied stole flicked a lot from western classical numbers. mozart for some vague reason (something to do with his melodies) was the main source!

LV,
I guess, still this discussion is not over.
Please enlighten us, what chitragupth did?. I have not heard much of him, other than the fact that, he is the father of anand miland, and also have the reputation of saying in one of the interviews, that he was the fist one to create rock/roll ( no pun intended, he did say that ).
Also, I have already asked this some time back, Why there is such a fuss about RDB?. He was at his peak for merely four years in 70s, there are lot of questions about his so called innovative songs being ripped of from other sources. I just watched sholay and I know, lot of people has remarked about how brilliant the BGM for the movie is, and I did not find anything great in that movie, unless I saw a diffrent movie sholay.
Please go and compare the songs kilake pogum rail and savare wala gadi or siggapukku rojakal and red rose ( infact RDB used the BGM of the origianl tamil as it is in the hindi version).
Also, nadam ennum koile was composed by govardhan ( unknown MD, not MSV).
regards
e.hari

Guys, there used to be a thread on the top 1000 songs of IR. One of the regulars even had a compilation of these songs in an Excel spreadsheet. If somebody can find it, please give the link to LV and let him tell us how many of those songs he has heard and of those that he liked, why exactly he liked them.
LV, I am all but convinced that you have NO idea why we are so fanatical about IR's music (a hint: we like his music not because we haven't heard other MDs' music, but simply because we have heard so much of IR's music). If your firm opinion is amenable by sufficient proof, I don't think we could offer any more than this list.
To us, one IR is worth a 100 billion gazillion LMs and then some. That's why we are unable to appreciate an LM award to IR. Even IR may be convinced that an LM award is an honor - we aren't.

Guys,
I was having a dinner at an Italin Restaurant(Macroni Grill), and they were playing all Italin old songs....most of them reminded me of old Raj Kapoor songs...my hindi(settu) friend was simply taken back.....Ithu thaan HFM :-))
LM is a drop in an ocean called IR.
Srinath,
Yes, I was also an active contributor to that 1000 great songs of IR thread...(But I had a different name though :-)) )

Are you trying to overwhelm LV completely ? :-) Wait a sec, a funny thought just struck me! Perhaps LV is claiming that all the MDs that he mentioned, put together are as good as IR ;-) Well, that's still not true :-) but still, marginally closer than his preposterous claim that each one is as good as IR :-)

aruLaracan,
Digression:
Same here.I like ARR's music too for the same reason.I have heard a lot of other MDs.

Oops...I just noticed that you warned about the digression. But I would suggest you avoid bringing ARR in here. Some digressions tend to result in very unpleasant discussions and I am sure all of us are eager to avoid that.

Srinath,

OK.I got a little excited by how I share pretty much the same beliefs as IR fans as aruLaracan said.I think it would be appropriate for me to let the LM-bashing and IR-glorification befitting the thread to continue.

Apology accepted. It is not uncommon for anti-IR TFM fans to jump in and provoke IR fans unnecessarily. I'm glad you realize the stupidity and potential danger of your digressions.

Srinath,
Digression:
Looks like my digression is going to be eternal.
I've never claimed my posting to be anything more than stupidity when compared to your posting which makes a lot of cerebral sense I can't comprehend at all.You don't need to overstate it.
If my stating presents a potential danger to making you insecure then you should look inside(sorry for using such a big word)about your beliefs about IR.If some stupid statements can cause a potential danger I don't know waht to say.
If I was in your place I would analyze your postings in a detached manner.
OF course you cannot be as stupid as me.

trend: you want to play the game? :-))) i also know the workings of the industry (the tfm, the radio and the big media in the u.s.) to some extent and the more i get to know, the more i like ir :-)). (i am sure that you wouldn't say the same for the top musicians of tfm now (which doesn't include ir and kr :-) )).
srinath: as always, subjective matters are not worth discussing; i like sj, sujAthA, ps, ... lv likes lm, ab, ... . if one wants to talk about technicalities, then we have something to discuss. lata is flawless whereas even sj, ps have made mistakes (listen to kETTELE angE adhap pAththELA ingE - sushilA looses key in the third stanza; sj would have done a much better job; i am not sure if lm would have sung this song correctly - she has no record, afaik, of singing such a song). the argument ends there. if lv can throw names to show who are all "as good as" ir, i can throw equal number (if not more) of singers from around the world who can sing as good as (if not better than) lm. for ex., listen to "dulcissime" of carmina burana, sung by sylvia mcnair for the st. louis symphony orchestra conducted by leonard bernstein. this is heart tearing (such a high pitch :-) ) beauty one get to hear only rarely.
it's an insult to both ir and lm that this thread keeps dragging on for this long :-(

I didn't say a word about LM except to say that there are others who have impressed me as much. Note perfect or not perfect, I still see no justification in giving IR an LM award - which is about all I have been discussing. My posts in this thread invariably speak of my devotion for IR's music and not my antipathy for others'.
Trend:
It is unfair that you take a discussion off-track just to substantiate your stupidity. If you feel so stupid that you need to discuss it with others, please start a separate topic in the misc. section of the Forumhub. This is absolutely not the place for it.

aruLaracan,
"you want to play the game? :-))) "
I think I don't want to be Shane Warne in the hands of Sachin Tendulkar.
Please read the following statement as a very biased ARR fan's statement or else it may sound potentially dangerous.
"The more I listen to IR and ARR every day I keep liking ARR more."
"it's an insult to both ir and lm that this thread keeps dragging on for this long :-("
I can never agree with you more on this.

Srinath,
"It is unfair that you take a discussion off-track just to substantiate your stupidity."
I wouldn't have brought my stupidity to the fore if you hadn't made the following statement.
"Perhaps LV is claiming that all the MDs that he mentioned, put together are as good as IR ;-) Well, that's still not true :-) but still, marginally closer than his preposterous claim that each one is as good as IR :-)"
Actually,it is interesting to see what you did with LV's statement and made it so mentally stimulating.
