hehe, good post, nicely made up, Dear KJY fans, please stay loyal to your idol, but facts of life are in deed facts. Let me elaborate on your views
>>All SPB songs in Hindi sound like his Telugu/Tamil songs, same intonation/accent>He is described as a classical expert turned film singer>2. People wanted to be generous to a South Indian singer. <<
correct so they gave many chances to KJY, but still he could not impress them :))

agreed, while KJY's songs in Hindi/Tamil sound like his MALLU accent, how much similarity is there between Malayalam & Tamil, yet KJY fails many times in Tamil pronunciation, still after 40 odd years of singing!!!

we ARE NOT talking about accent, we are talking about VOICE quality, in which SPB excels every other singer, INCLUDING the great Carnatic vocalist KJY!!!!
>>He is described as a classical expert turned film singer<< OF COURSE he IS, but he is an EXPERT in classical ONLY, not IN FILM MUSIC, that is SPB'S kingdom!

Raghu:
.
Iwas just reading your reactions to my post. Though you will not accept the fact, this is it:
.
When KJY interacts with North Indian Media he talks about the mutual respect he and Lataji have for each other, how his advice to Lataji (taking retirement) was misunderstood and how they made up afterwards, how now that the legends like Rafi, Mukesh, Kishore are no longer in the field he (KJY) does not regret not singing in Hindi etc.. THIS IS TREMENDOUS PR, and KJY is very good at it.
When SPB interacts with the media he talks about how he wants to be like Rafi, how he envies his (Rafi's) ability to "nuance" his singing and wants to as good at it, how he (SPB) was shivering when he was to sing for the first time with Lataji and spilled coffee on his trousers etc..This is good if one is a prospective saint aiming for speedy canonisation, but bad PR, if one wants to be judged as an equal.
The Media here view the two (KJY/SPB) exactly the same way as projected by the protogonists themselves (KJY/SPB). This is not a reflection on the ability of SPB, but a fact of life. Added to this is the fact that despite some stray comments about KJY's accent when his songs were released (25 years back), those songs have endured as HFM classics, and you find the songs always coming out in fresh collections dedicated to KJY, year after year. Whereas those very popular SPB songs in ETK, MPK, Hum Apke..etc are already gone from popular imagination as is the fate of such popular songs which have no depth.
By the way, I am not a Mallu but a pakka Maraththamizhan living in Matunga in Central Mumbai.

Mumbaiker;
hello, every knows how much SPB/KJY envy Rafi, it is a KNOWN FACT, no point in repeating such things to prove nothing!
SPB is very humble person, he probably thought, he would have not done justice to Rafi songs, hence this tea spilling incident, BIG DEAL ;)). This shows how much respect he has for his seniors, Had TMS saong any rafi songs, he would done it with great EGO, that is the different dude!
FYI, KJY is a GREAT admirer of Rafi as well, read what S.Janaki (Female SPB) says about SPB, surely, she must have 100% more knowledge than us to judge a singer, agreed :))

S.Janaki amma's comments on SPB
S. JANAKI
What I can say about a highly multi talented, most brilliant singer in many languages a very successful dubbing artiste, music director, a natural actor-SPB
As a singer he ably, rightly and well-deservedly succeeded the stalwarts like Mohd. Rafi, Ghantasala and Kishore Kumar whose enchanting voices had a lasting spell on the minds of cine music lovers for a long period and whose charm still continue and their Melody echoes in the ears of everybody.
His quick and easy grasp of a tune of any kind is a very rare gift and an enviable boon that rightly and necessarily compelled him to render the highest number of songs…which is a unique record and a great feat…
He is also a good speaker and a capable compeer at Cine and other functions. He has a Devil's energy charged and recharged with divine grace from time to time to work hard for a very long hours in a day continuously for years together untiringly.
His achievements are out-standing and phenomenal. Above all, of course, the time also has been splendid and favorable to him as constant faithful friend opening many a good opportunities thus he is very lucky and great as he is today. He is a miracle in the singing world, and it is no exaggeration that he is an adult prodigy.

by the way, Mukesh is indeed a legend, and among HFM fans no one is as fanatic as a Mukesh fan..

Oh Raghu you are incorrigible:-)
..went off on a tangent.
BTW, S Janaki said the same superlative things about KJY in an interview sometime back on TV, and added (rather strangely) that he is very handsome too!
KJY/SPB, who is better.. I do not want to make any judgement.
