"Big demand? Which solar system are you in?"
Sam is right *here*. Singers like Sadhana Sargam ARE in demand. IR, ARR, KR, Vidyasaagar, Deva.... et al go to her for song after song after song, and so many of them have become superhits. She has won a National award for her song in Azhagi. If that's not being in demand, wonder what is?
[BTW, there is a poster in this forum named TNS who is big fan of PS. He says Sadhana's voice is second only to PS when it comes to melody.]

Mr. av, singers like Sadhana or Udit are like Visiting Professors/Doctors. Sadhana is having good voice. BUt you cannot say that they are the best singsrs. Though she has good voice, she cannot express the songs. Sometimes, she spells Tamil very difficultly. For example//; You pls hear to the somg Deewana Deewana from GEMINI, you will identify the difference . She spells HIndi very easily but Tamil is a Tongue Twister to her. SAme case for Udit. And also his vocie is not so good as KArthik, KIshore , SPB and others. His fame is nothing but Medial Hype. HE is a total waste. Expressions = o, Modulation = 0.
Right from his first film he is singing in the same tune with no expressions. Vidyasaagar has told that "UDIT's voice is like SODA", and ppl don't dring SODA always. tamil guys get bored by hearing SUtthamana Tamil, so he uses UDit who wonderfuly, without any difficulty kills Tamil.

Bollywood Actress gtg chances in TFm..?
THey opt for Bollywood Actresses, coz they don't know to act, but are ready for FULL EXPOSE, which our Front BEnchers expect in a MAsala MOvie.
You think that they all are equal to our talents like - Suhasini, Revathi, SAngeetha.
Though Roja , Ramba, Ramya Krishnan expose but they are in a limit. BUt they l;ike the heroine of DHOOL (II heroine), thoooo, they all are really open to anything. IF yoou see the chorteography of KAi KAi from Bagavathy and Ithnudu Mutathil then you will know why they select Bollywood Actresses.
Now, can you understand why tehy don't select Bollywood HEroes..?

>>>I mean the non-dubbed versions???
That's the problem. SPB is not being used by any of BW MD's now. Even ARR does not use him in Hindi. Might be probably, he did not want the dir. or actor later to complain. ARR has great regards for SPB..So he would have thought why unnecessaryly troble the great soul. But, having said that, I would always say that ARR has always broken paths...Bringing back SPB is not so difficult for him. He MUST use SPB...how long can he go with only UN, SS and SN in HFM.?

Are yaar;
I agree with u ARR has used SPB more than any other singgers in his albums, with a fewer exceptions!
what is the next ARR + SPB combo?
>>how long can he go with only UN, SS and SN in HFM.?<<
these guys are surviving due to flu which has hit HFM for a long time, once one MD find a cure for this HFM, they will come back to SPB :))

SPB in Hindi, hmmm... he has a very limited scope. I'am not speaking about his abilities but the styles vary b/w south and north and unless he gets songs like "pehla pehla pyaar hai"... his accent just doesnt fit on the northy heroes.
Cant imagine Udit singing "oruvan oruvan" for rajni, neither can i imagine spb singing songs of kuch kuch hota hai. Both would be able to sing, aana neneychaaley bayamma irruku.

There is a song on Jackie... 'hum naa sumjehy' by SPB. Good but sincerely feel that had it been by KK/Rafi people would be listening to it more often. Not talking about diction but in hindi he lacks the punch/expression.
Also MDs should refrain from dubbing front bench songs with regional touch like "Na auto kaaren" into hindi. Never listen to it in hindi if you are SPB fan

the song u were refering to, was it from a movie called "Gardish"?, sorry but i do not agree with u about SPB lacking punch in hindi songs, perhaps expression, as he MAY have an accent problem, but certainly not the punch in any languages, be it hindi or tamil!
Ek duche kiliye/ Maine pyar kiya/ Hum apke hey khon/ Saajan/ Saagar/ Gardsih/ Agneepath are still listen by ppl.

hi guys,
spb is not active in mumbai and not pursuing
it either, that is the reason for not many
hindi songs from him.
also, not many south indian produced hindi
movies are being made and salman khan with
whom his voice was associated has moved on for
quite some time.

SPB's hindi expressions are the best:
Proof > listen to:
1)Kabhi Haaste hai... Dushmani
2)Meri mehbooba se tum anjaan ho... Ek nahi pehli
3)Shukriya...... Kabhi na Kabhi.
4)Mushkil me hai kaun..... Angaar.
5)All songs from Ek Hi Bhool.
And many many more!

SPBs expression in hindi songs is just better than Udits expression in Tamil.
To say his expression is best in hindi...its carrying it too far. SPB sounds overenthusiastic in "most" hindi songs.Cant blame him for that though, as any local flavour comes only if u have spent some time in that environment.
Without regional flavour any singer would be, in most circumstances, only as good as an instrument...and the feelings would be missing.

A point to note!
As SPB became less and less used in hindi films Hariharan and singers like Vinod Rathod became more popular.
I can't understand this.
Surely SPB has better expressions and hindi accent than Hariharan. SPB has a much deeper and stronger voice than Vinod Rathod!
How very odd!!

Raghu..sorry man! I got these songs from India.
I don't think they are available here.
Ek nahi pehli is especially rare!
Another great song is from the film Zara si Zindagi starring Kamal Hasan and Anita Raj
It is a very unusual duet by Lata & SPB...
Lata sings a tune i.e gives the melody and SPB makes up the words to match the tune and sings!!
Quite an innovative composition by Laxmikant Pyarelal(this is also an extremely rare song)

Jyothi
"Surely SPB has better expressions and hindi accent than Hariharan...."
Surely you haven't done your homework before typing, did you? Hariharan is trained in Hindusthani music and has learnt Urdu/Hindi to such perfection that even stalwarts in the language had given up to the dedication he showed in learning and enunciating it. He cut several ghazal albums. I am sure you know about this. He has come a long way from being a south indian brahmin to displaying awe-striking Urdu/Hindi diction which was accepted by the northies.
SPB on the other hand barely has an acceptable (sometimes totally botched up) Hindi/urdu accent. Half the time, to me (an SPB fan), it feels like he is singing a telugu/tamil song.
In Hindi/urdu music there is simply no point in comparing SPB and Hariharan's respective accents/enunciation. THIS, indeed, is very odd!

Hariharan is a ghazal singer par excellence. Today, he is my favourite ghazal singer. I prefer him to even Jagjit Singh, because Jagjit Singh's ghazals don't have the classical influence that Hariharan's ghazals do. Of course, Jagjit Singh does have an exceptionally resonant voice that comes out even better in live concerts. But Hariharan's ghazals are steeped in classical music. Here is an excellent collection of his ghazals:
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/02010M
The album Hariharan's ghazals (http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/02010M06)
has the ghazal "main khayaal huun kisi aur kaa". I think it is based on Raaga Madhuvanti. And it does remind one of Ilayaraaja's "en ullil engo". The interludes are strikingly similar. Perhaps, Hariharan was inspired by IR in composing this tune? Nonetheless, its an excellent rendition.
SPB and KJY (two very great singers) have never managed to sound good in Hindi, IMO. Hariharan has done a far better job, and there is really no point in making that comparison, for Hariharan is far, far better in his Hindi, urdu diction.

I think you are talking about the remake of "Varumaiyin niram sivappu". That is the original tamil film in which Sridevi gives the tune and kamal sings with the lyrics. MSV and Kannadasan did not do any thing great here as it was their usual way of song composing. MSV gives tune KD gives the lyrics with in minutes...then MSV some times test KD with dificult twist...KD come out with even better lyrics..Such was their equation.
LP just probably tried to redo it. But I am sure they would have composed the whole song first and then would have called the lyricist.....where as Kamal himself said that the way the song was composed was no way different from what it was shown in the film.
