Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

raj- Rajeev Krishna also appeared in Manam Virumbuthey Unnai and some TV serials of Revathi.
I remember watching this film in Prarthana ( November, 97) with a group of friends. It started raining suddenly, and we had to continue watching the film, huddling inside the car, with the wipers busy on the windshield. The cosy atmosphere soon lulled us all to sleep. And I suddenly woke up to see Sukanya screaming hysterically--for a moment I thought we had slept through the film, and this was the next show and another film!

SK, I think the MD for dAgam was MB Srinivasan. As usual, Saravanan please validate the info :).

It is from Samayarkaran-loosely based on Bawarchi, the Rajesh Khanna,AK Hangal,Jaya starrer. In the movie thengai,an aspiring MD who try to compose a song desparately looking for the elusive great tune.Mu.Ka.Muthu,the "Samayarkaran", would then compose this song in "Kapi" raga. This song, probably the ONLY highlight of that otherwise atrocious movie.
I think, later Shankar-Ganesh too composed a similar styled "Sirithal Sirippen Aval oru Rajakumari"

Thanks for the details. MD for samayalkAran is MSV; is it not? Are there any more good songs in that movie? mu.ka.mu nichchayam oru paattu paadiyiruppaarE? Remember a movie named aNaiyA viLakku? I wonder what mu.ka.mu is doing nowadays!

BB:
The improvisations in a song of Deva are mostly by the singers. Deva though has a malicious reputation of being a copy cat, is extremely good with singers and allows them to embellish the songs as they please. But I remember Deva singing in T.V interview for kalki in which I found hium quite confortable with sangathis. I would still safely presume that the sangathis are by HH himself which is also bolstered by Hariharan's characteristic improvisation in 1:07. This style of improv is seen in many of his ghazals.
To me it appears that MSV was probably the only person who sang the exact sangathis that he wanted the singers to produce. And by the admission of P.susheela and PBS, they could reproduce only 10% of what MSV wanted them to sing. With IR, strictly no extra sangathis even for the great SPB. I believe any extra improv would dstort the orchestration that he writes based on the tune he conceives in mind. A song like "metti oli kaatrOdu en nenjai" is a good example for how much the sangathis could possibly be cut off though the tune itself is very forthcoming and encouraging for the singer to sing with more brighas. Another example is "paadum vaanampaadi".
I think only a genius like SPB could infuse life into songs where the sangathis were non-existent but still became vocal centric.

bb, the sooryodhayam songs in dhool.com are not IR songs, i think Deva or SAR ( it comes out first in the list unfortunately and also is the abominable song in dhool that feature as IR song.) fyi and fyaction also. thanks

Song of the Day: poovE poochchooda vaa from poovE poochchooda vaa.

- A KJY/IR/Fazil/Vaali(?) song for the weekend.
- This poignant song never fails to move me. The song is profound in its lyrics, creates a mood of sorrow and anticipation in its music, and to top it all, a wonderful rendition by KJY. The song tracks the feelings of a grandmother (Padmini) waiting for her granddaughter (Nadhiya) to come back to her. Due to some family problems, Padmini has not seen Nadhiya and her mother for a long time, and her otherwise banal life goes on, in anticipation of the day when Nadhiya would come and ring the bell on her door. What a way to start off a story, and capture it in a song!
As the song starts, we are aware that there is something wrong. Even the initial chorus of lalala seems muted and bereft of joy. The lyrics of the pallavi takes us immediately to the situation that Padmini is in.
PoovE poochchooda vaa
endhan nenjil paal vaarkka vaa (veeNai here playing a melancholic tone)
vaasal paarththu
kaNgaL pooththu
kaaththu ninREn vaa
Ilayaraja doesn't overdo the music, but keeps the orchestration simple. Short and fast phrases with the violin just before the first interlude brings some expectation going into the charaNam. The lyrics in charanam takes it from there:
azhaippu maNi endha veettil kEttaalum
Odi naan vandhu paarththEn
thendral en vaasal theeNdavE illai
kaNNil venneerai vaarppEn
Is it possible to do such magic where the lyrics and the music go hand in hand?
- Fazil/IR/KJY combination has given some excellent songs to TFM. The songs in Poovizhi vaasalilE, en bommukkutti ammaavukku, varusham 16, arangEtra vELai and kaadhalukku mariyaadhai stand testimony to their association. NagaS writes:
All these movies had very good songs, I think IR gets too emotional when he composes for people like fazil who make stories which are based on human relations and feelings, Thats why he is coming up with great numbers like 'Poovee Poochchudavaa'., 'Chinna chinna Rojap poovee'., 'Bommuk kutti ammaavukku aaraaroo'., 'poongaaviyam'., 'Pazamuthirch choolai', 'PooPookkum Maasam', 'Aagaaya veNNilaavee', 'Anbe vaa arugilae', 'Ennaith thaalaatta varuvaaLoo', 'Oru pattaampoochchi', 'Iravu pagalaith theda' and many more .... (Strange coincidence - Most of these songs are sung by KJY :-)
- There is a version of this song sung by Chitra. Her first song in TFM?

bb, think it is by Vairamuthu.
The first song that Chitra sang in Tamil was 'Poojaikketha poovidhu' (Nee Thaana Andha Kuyil). However the film got delayed and was releasd only in 1986. Menawhile in 1985, both Poove Poochooda Vaa and Sindhu Bhairavi were released, and Chitra's glorious innings had begun.

A very soulful song. This was one of the "inspirations" for the super hit song of SAR - "rosaapoo rosaappoo"..huh..

Chithra earned her "Chinnakuyil" surname courtesy of the song from this film. You are reminded a little of the earlier KJY-MSV song "indha pachchaikilikoru" when you listen to this one. KJY's rendition is what that makes this song special, IMO. That slight tinge of pathos that comes all so naturally to him.
"Rosapoo chinna rosapoo" compose panradhukku SARukku inspiration vera theva paattudha?:-)

Vijay,
'oh megangale(me too not sure of the starting) ingu vaarungalen, en thalaivi irukkum idam koorungal'
That wonderful song is from the movie 'Malligai Mohini' acted by Mohan (ex hubby of Lakshmi) and music by GK Venkatesh.
