"The album kicks in with the very catchy ye ye ennachu sung by Vasundhara Das in manner that only she can. Next is a beauty of a ballad sonnalum by Unnikrishnan and Harini.
Vaan nila by Srinivas and Karthik is a highly innovative rock-n-roll track that would not let your feet rest. S P Balu is in his usual fantastic form in the heart warming yenthan vanin. Rahman takes off again into a very progressive FTV style track in bailmore with T R Simbu and Tippu doing the vocal honours. And the album ends on a grand note with Mano and Clinton going for the gut with o kadhale, which also sits on an emotional high note in the movie.
Kaadhal Virus has all the ingredients of a typical Kathir-A R Rahman soundtrack. A great mix of upbeat youthful tracks and soulful ballads"

Musicislife,
>>hat is pleasing to somebody might not be pleasing to all. that does surely not determine a character consequence.
But it is the MD's creativity to bring in New music which is appreciative to common listener>>
I totally agree with you but not everyone in this forum accepts that fact.... If a person likes a particular genre of music, its his taste or his liking.. That doesnt mean the other person can ridicule his music taste or undermine the MD's effort...... To me A Y 's comment makes sense on commenting about some (not all) IR fan's responses...When one experiment is called innovation , the other experiment is called repetition.......and that is what he has tried to point out to.......
The problem here is 'Who is that common listener who can really appreicate the MD's creativity'......I find most of the ppl in this forum are either biased or interested in hurting the other side's feelings rather than talking sense abt music........
Tell me does it make sense for one guy asking another one '
1) listen to this song, it looks good to me and he has tried something new' or 2) 'dont ever listen to this song, it sounds horrible.. it is just repetition'........or 3) 'Listen to the song and decide yourself whether the song is good'........
A guy who takes the 2nd point, goes on spreading the word to others even before he listens to it......some fans here are trying to follow 1) & 3) which is not being welcome by some irate ppl in the thread....

Thiru,
I rest my case, and agree with you, surely did not see the point of view in that light.
My meaning of common listener is: a person who does not know a lot in music (including me) but is surely inclined to listen to the song, just as captivating it is.
Bad mouthing is not a good character at all, people (like AY) should start ignoring the stuff and move on with healthy discussions. I really appreciate all the posts in this forum, coz i want to know more.
kartrathu kai man alavu kallathathu ulaga alavu- i sincerely believe in that.

there are 4 groups of fans who can say an ARR album is good or bad-
Non ARR fans who can say that songs are good or bad
ARR fans who say that songs are good or bad
AY's problem is that he assumes everyone who says KV is bad is an IR fan.
I have said that KV songs are likeable-I do not know what he will say to that-something like I am buttering up ARR fans, I suppose.
That seems to be the problem with majority of ARR's fans in this forum-they have not even considered there are Non IR fans/ARR fans can dislike a number from ARR and similarly IR fans/non ARR fans can like his number. His music(hahaha...)is so fantastic everyone HAS to like those songs.

podhumda sami,
u'll have to accept that the converse of this assumption is true too... i.e, a guy who likes these KV songs or a person who has a discussion that these songs are good is branded as a 'Hard Core ARR fan'.... and not as a genuine music fan...

Genuine "Music Fan" is a key term to note nice one--Thanks Thiru.
Probably people should stop reading into lines for personal inflictions and prejudices.
Sorry!!, please continue with the discussion, coz there is no more musical information coming out.

Thanks all for not making a personal attack on me. I expected abig one before clicking in explorer.
My intention is not to hurt. Are Yaar is talking like this because he is forced to. You don't know who he was (ofcourse I am taliking about me). I have mentioned that if you dislike the song then state it and do not try to intimidate others in the thread which is specific for that album or the MD. If you need to critisize then there has to be decency. That is why I said your character will determine your consequence. If you spoil our favourite MD's thread by some thrash then I will also do the same in yours. I don't own any thread though. I think you understand what I say. It is not a rule that you have to like KV at any cost, but disliking it needs to have some justification. If you don't want to justify then you have no purpose of posting youyr comment which otherwise will harm the other party's feelings.
I didn't like Ivan, EMV and that arum pandiya film. Did I go thread after thread to belittle it. I would have only responded when intimidated. Recently I have tryied to become violent, but I have not lost my balance though.
Okay...I have no time to defend my case...KV is too good for me to allow me waste my time like this. I am clicking my Winamp start button.

Rahman brought in new sounds to the indian cinema, when he came up with Roja. His successes after that has only increased pressure upon him to come up with "something different".
I must say that he has succeeded in that to quite an extent with different but great musics like in "Thiruda Thiruda", "Duet" (God saxaphone never sounded so melodious in movies), "Bombay", "Lagaan", "1947 Earth" to name a few.
But now few other music directors like HJ and YuvanShanker Raja are coming up with music which sounds like ARR. ARR has a reputation of giving different music and for keeping his reputation he is trying all sorts of musical experimentation. Some sounds good wheras some doesnot to most of the general public. I am sure he can give music of the mould of "Kadhalar Dinam" or " jeans" very easily but doesnot want to. KV is another one of those albums where he has used his creativity to the max and unlike few albums in recent past it sounds good.

THERE IS NOTHING TO DISCUSS. ARR IS SIMPLY THE BEST OF ALL. IT IS NOT SMART THING TO COMPARE MSV,ILLAYARAJA & ARR WITH EACH OTHER. ITS ALL GENEREATION TO GENERATION MUSIC ONLY. THERE IS NO NEED TO COMPARE AND FIND OUT WHO IS THE BEST. ALL ARE BEST ONLY. NOW ARR IS REACHING TAMIL MUSIC TO NOOK & CORNERS IN THIS WORLD. SO WE SHOULD ENCOURAGE HIM AND APPRECIATE HIS TALENT AND ALSO THANK HIM FOR HIS NUMEROUS HIT SONGS & HIT FILMS WHICH TURNED THE LIFESTYLE AND WHY NOT EVEN LIFE OF MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE. THE TAMIL FILM INDUSTRY HAS GROWN TO A LARGE EXTENT WITH HIS ENTRY. HATS OFF TO ARR.

Is sonnalum based on Raag bihag or Nalinaganthi or Desh raag???? can someone clarify.....

I agree with Srinath. Atlast a reasonable message.
MSV, IR and ARR are great. And the impact that they have on their own generations is a huge thing.
There is no point in a 18 year old person's(who belongs to ARR's generation) argument that criticizes IR's music or in a 30 year old person's argument (who belongs to IR's generation) that criticizes ARR's music.
Truth is, all the three are among the JEWELS of TFM history.

To Thiru on Sonnalum
The begining flute part is certainly has lots of 'Desh' tinge to it.
And rest part it has greater shades of Bihag than Nalinaganthi(only in a certain place).
I guess Carnatic Wizard here might diasgree with me or can give more inputs.
Final point we can't put a definitive raga on this song as it has shades of everything :)
Great melody though
