"The album kicks in with the very catchy ye ye ennachu sung by Vasundhara Das in manner that only she can. Next is a beauty of a ballad sonnalum by Unnikrishnan and Harini.
Vaan nila by Srinivas and Karthik is a highly innovative rock-n-roll track that would not let your feet rest. S P Balu is in his usual fantastic form in the heart warming yenthan vanin. Rahman takes off again into a very progressive FTV style track in bailmore with T R Simbu and Tippu doing the vocal honours. And the album ends on a grand note with Mano and Clinton going for the gut with o kadhale, which also sits on an emotional high note in the movie.
Kaadhal Virus has all the ingredients of a typical Kathir-A R Rahman soundtrack. A great mix of upbeat youthful tracks and soulful ballads"

My two cents on KV.
I think its an Ok album..strictly timepass listening..nothing stays for long..but while hearing its pretty hummable.
Sonnalum and the song by SPB are the melodies.Mano's effort though good does not merit the praise that has been heaped on it.I think the song has lots of Abhaswaram for one.
The western songs bY Vasundara Das and Baila more are imitations of western music that obviously are for the guys in the car wanting to drive by college campuses. It has very little in terms of musical quality in it.
By using jazz and blues, ARR might be setting a trendin TFM but that doesnt mean its very good and eminently pleasing to the ear.
And finally, while KV is definitely an average or above album, it does not warrant the justification of the 1 yr or so ARR has reportedly worked on it.
All in all..KV is a virus whose lifetime is extremely limited and might get curtailed even further if the movie fails..
PS : Other than Idhayam, Kadhirs movies are extremely illogical and really bad.Kadhal Desam was miserable..and Uzhavan..well the climax still haunts me..and for Kadhalar Dhinam..Kunal and the so called college going Koundamani were good enuf to keep me miles away from it. I am expecting KV to be no better..So the movie might have crores spent all over..but the content will be worth nothing..a big hyped up release that will peter out very soon..so,even if the music had been top-class the movie's failure will wipe it all out..so with an average score..it really is bad tiding for all concerned..

Why not? It sounds pleasant to me and nobody appreciates a song if it is not pleasing. You think so many ppl here in this thread appreciating the songs just for the sake of posting? They heard it , loved it and thats why appreciate it.
Or do you mean to say that jazz and blues are never pleasing to you ? In that case, nobody can help it. It is your taste.

- Maverick... lot of people are not happy with album also. I think infact they have outnumbered those who say the songs are good. Regarding Jazz, Blues.. it has been in TFM for years. There is nothing great in this album. It sounds like old albums. What is new in this? Nothing. Araicha mavu. Whether you agree or not any neutral fan will say the album is sub-standard. ARR fans obviously have to like it whether it is good or bad. There is no other go.

I dont think so. I still see more appreciative comments than others. And I dont see any other album going on as hot as KV right now( not just in newtfmpage, everywhere) . So, what is the point ?
So , Jazz & Blues have been there already in TFM. so disco was already there in TFM. rock, pop, garage, rap, hip-hop, folk, twist, classical, gaana, dapaankuthu - everything was already there in TFM. so you guys want a new kind of style to be introduced in every film to deserve a 'good song' appreciation. Then , it comes down to 1 good song per new style. hehehe !! even I dont see any list of good songs that I asked for sometime back in this forum!!

It seems..that KV songs are been liked by everyone....eventhough they don't like the same songs....
what a marketing strategy he adopted from west...ever heard of Killer Song concept guys...backstreet boys are good in that...out of the whole album..only one of their song will stand out...and we....will buy the whole album..for the sake of one single song (eventhough they release single's separately)...
so what ARR did....create an album which satisfies every listeners.....u pick ur choice..and buy it.....wow....briliant...musically and buzz technically....

A R Rehman's music in 'Kathal Virus': A big hit!
Buzz says A R Rehman's career is on a high again! His music in the recent film Kathal Virus is a big hit. The audio cassette of the film, released on October 2 by Sony Music, is supposed to be selling like hot cakes. Ye ye ennachu..., by Vasundhara Das, Sonnalum..., by Unnikrishnan and Harini and Vaan nila..., by Srinivas-Karthik are real foot-tappers. T R Silambarasan and Tippu doing an MTV-type song Baila more..., sung by Mano and Clinton is a gutsy number. A R Rehman has once again proved his magic touch with this film. Actress Shalini's brother Richard and star-couple Vijaykumar-Manjula's daughter Sreedevi, play the lead in Kathal Virus. Abbas and Raghuvaran are also in the cast. The film has been

Kaadhal Virus' music is infectious
CHENNAI: Say what you want about A R Rahman’s music, but there is little doubt that he is one of the few innovative composers around. And it is this trait of the ‘Mozart of the East’ that comes to the fore in Kathir’s Kaadhal Virus.
The album is a cocktail of different musical styles — rock’n roll, trance, pop, carnatic... and more. All the songs are good and potential superhits. There are six songs, out of which three are likely to be more popular among the younger generation because of their fast tempo and racy beats.
Vasundhra Das excels in the opening track Ye Ye Enna Aachu. In the beginning, her voice is smooth and very relaxed — almost to the extent of being labelled sleepy — but midway through it transforms and is full of energy. Also, the enthusiasm with which she delivers the number is infectious and makes the listener want to hum along with her. P Vijay’s lyrics for the song are simple and refreshing. Moreover, unlike other lyricists, he doesn’t unnecessarily use English words for a fast number. Another highlight of the song is the mixing.
But it is not the best song of the cassette. That honour goes to Vaan Nila — a song that is reminiscent of Elvis Presley’s rock’n roll style. Though the tune is not an easy one, Sreenivas and Karthik have rendered the number with aplomb. Janarthanan on the saxophone is also impressive.
On the flip side, T R Simbu — son of T Rajender — who will soon make his debut as a hero, has combined with Tippu for Baila More. This is a very progressive track with heavy beats. Also, there is a lady singing in French in the background for added affect. Wonder if Vaalee wrote the lyrics for her too.
The other three songs are melodious and rendered by three of the best singers in the Tamil music scene today — S P Balasubramainam, Mano and Unnikrishnan. The lyrics are also well written, especially in the song Sonnallum by Vaalee.
Another good aspect about the album is that the lyrics have been printed on the cassette cover. This will gladden the hearts of many karaoke enthusiasts.
This also the first time that Sony Music has bought the audio rights of a regional film.
Kadhal Virus is available on Sony Music and is priced at Rs 45.

I laugh loudly when I read that R & R type songs, jaaz songs are nothing new and so KV is nothing new in TFM. Can you apply the same logic to IR album. When Ivan came every IR fans (only them) were talking high about the carnatic numbers which were just ordinary. Haven't we had lakhs of movies in carnatic music and carnatic songs. Then why did you people say so much about the SR's song in the film.
You have one logic but you apply a diffderent one to us.. Good that this time you stomach is really burning. Don't worry, I will not start spoiling IR's thread for now. Better stop spoiling this thread if your intention is to do so. Tit for a tat ...don't forget...I am not alone.
If you don't like the album, say it and stop there. Your character will determine your consequence.

Are Yaar,
That was surely harsh and brutal.
I heard the songs of KV, but still, having extreme difficultly to appreciate as the best, but they are good numbers (dont mistake me). Probably i have been out of Tamil for a very long time or and i do accept that the current trend has not caught up with me, Though my conscious tells me not dwelve in the past, people do associate and appreciate if they are used to hearing, so the depth might be a little higher i guess.
So when a carnatic song is appreciated, People already have been used to that kind of genre, so we can find mistakes, faults or the good things. that is not the usual case with a new type of music, it has a Ignorance part too. What is pleasing to somebody might not be pleasing to all. that does surely not determine a character consequence.
But it is the MD's creativity to bring in New music which is appreciative to common listener. Probably IR did it time and again and others did not
