"The album kicks in with the very catchy ye ye ennachu sung by Vasundhara Das in manner that only she can. Next is a beauty of a ballad sonnalum by Unnikrishnan and Harini.
Vaan nila by Srinivas and Karthik is a highly innovative rock-n-roll track that would not let your feet rest. S P Balu is in his usual fantastic form in the heart warming yenthan vanin. Rahman takes off again into a very progressive FTV style track in bailmore with T R Simbu and Tippu doing the vocal honours. And the album ends on a grand note with Mano and Clinton going for the gut with o kadhale, which also sits on an emotional high note in the movie.
Kaadhal Virus has all the ingredients of a typical Kathir-A R Rahman soundtrack. A great mix of upbeat youthful tracks and soulful ballads"

Thanx Karthik :)
Quite relieving to know that others are thinking of less important things like these as so much of the noise is always about who's GOD who's not :p
To add to the French lines in the song.... the song closes with a count down in French... I wonder why...? [any prize for guessing the song could've been picturised in France or Canada?]

<<
khanna athai neengha sollavendam, enudaiya muthal velaiye athuthaan :))
here is my review
1) yenthan vanin - SPB, Swarnalatha, well, no need to speak about SPB, as we all know about this genius :) Swarnalatha was good at humming, This song is bit semi classical, hence very smoothing for the soul
"Intha pattai kettathum, marupadiyum , kathal vanthiruchu asaiyil pattu kaetten", :))
mark: 10/10
2) Vaan Nila - sounds a bit like late 70's Rock N Roll type, good effort
mark: 7/10
3) Sonnalum - UK & Harini were both good in this song, very cathy tune
mark 9/10
ARR has done very decent job, but due to new faces, I dunno if the film will do well, but ARR has done a very decent job in deed, but still nothing like the real ARR!!

Hard core IR fans are becoming too predictable. Whenever a new ARR album is launched, they rush in wildly, form unison groups and condemn the album. Nowadays, they do not even wait for the album to be released, before sharing their "words of wisdom."
Even when a genuine criticism is made of the album, nobody pays attention to this as everything gets lost in this sea of madness.
Aaah! What would I give for a moment of peace?
Wait, all is not lost yet. I shall visit the IR's New album thread for some solace. :)
No jealousy or stomach burning is apparent there.

Anti-IR??? what is this.. did i talk Anti-ARR? I just commented about this album. I have nothing against ARR. Don't allow this thread flooded with full of sychopancy and one-sided reviews. Unless someone points out what is wrong with the album you will never know. So lend your ears to that also. I am no better than you in reviewing. But reverse is also true. I honestly found this album repetitive. This is 100% true. Usually i don't take these college movie albums seriously as one wouldn't expect soul stirring songs in those albums. I hugely expected Sangamam because ARR for the first time tried his hand at carnatic. But it was just an ok album.Nothing path breaking. Scoring music for college movies is very easy especially for ARR as he scores college type music even in serious movies. Example: Mala Mala song was in the top 10 for long time in Sun TV. My 2 Cents.
It is a criticism by a fan.

ARR has a winner here .I loved this album. Bailamore is the best of the lot . just loved it the first time i heard . If he keeps coming up with songs like this , we might stop listening to the English songs .
My next pick would be ye ye yennachu ..by vasundhradas . This is another classy one .
When you think that rahman has done it all.. he comes up with a great jazzy numer in Vaan nila .
great sax , havent heard such a fresh sounding sax in years in TFM.
3 cheers to ARR for a fresh youtful album .

I dont know why i feel like this, but dont wanna start no controversy, the Sonnalum song reminds me or atleast rings in my mind like the song in LOVE BIRDS (Prabhu deva & Nagma). May be it was sung by UnniKrishnan & chitra i guess. enlighten me please.
I might be totally wrong also, just curious.

KV ---> Vaan nilla the jazz typed song is already attempted in tamil songs, in recent film "Mannathai Thirudi Vittai" song call "all day holidy" is a jazz song. rahman tried the same thing for KV

the song you mentioned said is more of any 70s rock with lot of latin flavour to it and it has nothing to do with Jazz.
The evolution and influence of modernday rock came back from Blues which influenced Jazz then later also influenced the modern rock and roll.
Ofcourse blues, jazz is great contribution of african american community

First of all, pls note that all the comments in the thread directed towards anti-ARR fans is not directed towards you... Secondly, no one wants to have one-sided reviews in this thread, but we would also like to share certain thoughts and ideas which we found unique or interesting with others...If you think that as pathetic analysis or repetitive stuff, its ur opinion., but u better substantiate ur claims with proper reasoning.... just like any other Anti-ARR guy would say, your review says "songs are repetitive... his older albums were good... harris and yuvan are better ...he scores college type songs which are very easy etc....".... When others are talking about the uniqueness of the album or the improvisations in this album, you are not open to accepting these , which bluntly makes you say 'so wat... IR has done this before... that song was better etc'.......Finally, you have the right to put down ur comments in this thread, but that doesnt mean we won't hit back at your comments and say that you are wrong..

There is nothing wrong in pointing out what you feel about a song. But undermining the efforts of a MD who tries experimenting, and ridculing when others appreciate that - thats not right. So what if IR tried experimenting in Vaa Vaa Manjal Malare. This is ARR way of improvising and certainly, he didnt copy here. So where is the problem ?
And, calling tracks like 'Yenthan Vaanil' 'Ye Ye..' 'sonaalum' 'vaan nila' as ordinary & lifeless songs makes me think about what you think abt a special song ? just let us know about your tastes and the standards you expect to call the song as a good one. List out a few of those here and let us see how many are there ? and just point out some latest ones too and not stick to the old 'so-called' classics.

Thiru,Maverick
we all listen to music for enjoying music sake
but there are people listen to them with a different purpose, now whatever sensible, valid point you bring out its doesnt matter,if someone listens with premeditated opinion what can you do.
And btw I am no anti-IR or pro-ARR
because I have reviewed both of their albums,do check out my older reviews.
Some albums or music sometimes generate more interest than others because there so new good things that attracts musically speaking.
If people can bring out a valid counterpoints or technical aspects and say this is bad or wrong thats fine, but all they care is their strongheaded personal opinion/prejudice.
sad indeed
