We Don't Deserve AR Rahman

Honestly I think India doesn't deserve someone talented and intelligent like AR Rahman. I think compared to his group of fans, there are double the amount of Deva and Raja fans. (Read that again, I'm not saying that there are no ARR Indian appreciators or fans)

Is it because Indians are unable to understand his style of music? Is it because deep inside, ghana and dhampakoothu are what they want?

If tomorrow, ARR decides to give up India music, I will be happy because he gets the recogniztion he deserves overseas and can concentrate on his western projects more. Read Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Jackson.

  I have read articles in Junior Vikatan about Justice Dinkar. They say that he is a straigt-forward man. On the contrary, Venkatapathy - has sympathy towards DMK (it seems he has appeared for DMK in many cases). May be, while DMK was ruling, rule & laws were bent, to make Jayalalitha suffer.
  
  Btw, Thiru. Karunanidhi & family's wealth .... how much they could amass ..is anybody's guess...Jayalalitha, was a fool to display what she has looted (that also shows her inability in hiding the things, may be learning)...compared to the seasoned man like Thiru. Karunanidhi...

  FYI, India has one of the best documentation practices in the world. An example - IndiaPost. Call it the INdian fetish for paperwork, you can still walk into an appropriate office and retrieve a document lodged 50 years ago, neatly catalogued. The office might not be computerised, nor records microfilmed and maintained in a/c'ed environs, but the fact is that this low-cost, energy-saving, employment-generating system works. Too bad about the dust, grime etc., they were anyway not intended for daisies like you..

  1)try getting a duplicate for ur drivers licence
  
  2) try getting a duplicate for ur college mark sheet
  
  and worst of all..
  3)try getting your name into the voters sheet.
  
  i gather ur experience with documentations and land records in India is not vast. Statistics like divorce rate and teenage pregnancy in India can never be calculated precisely. there are many reasons..
  
  please check the law books even tday you can get a minor married and you can get a dicorce "legally" without the help of a court.
  
  i dont understand we call india a 3rd world country and a developing country but still we argue on individual issues that India is the best. if we r so dam good then why r we so backward!

  Few roads in Hyderabad are damn good than many roads of Detroit, the so called developed country USA. Beleive me when I say this. Dont think so cheap of India. I dont know what made you feel that way. This has become a habbit of atleast 30% Indians who come here.
  
  What you feel bad of India also happen here in US too.
  
  You cant just say your experience and generalise the whole country. I can get a duplicate license and duplicate marksheet without any trouble or problem. I need not pay any bribe. There are places in India which are far better than /similar to than any other country in the world.
  
  Stats@Atlanta, I dont know what are you talking about, I have my mothers/ grand father's birth record in their hometown so well recorded and documented. I could get a copy of that when it was required.
  
  You know what I dont know whether you have seen a program in NBC where one can get a fake drivers license without any problem?

  Atleast india is bad in implementing laws related to driving, licence etc.. Deaths caused by drivers of water tank lorries ( without licence or drunk or driven by cleaners) is becoming very common in the heart of madras and in outskirts. Atleast once in two days, i read in newspapers about headon collision between lorries/vans/cars/buses etc.. in tamilnadu highways - killing on-an-average 10. This is because of one of the following reasons. (a) drunken driving (b) bad road conditions (c) tired drivers (d) inexperiensed drivers etc... Is there anything being done to stop the number of human-lives being lost? There is no need to compare. You can outrightly say - india is bad in the above area.

  Picture S.S.Das saying to ganguly " u know we really did a wonderful job out there against the south africans. I am really proud of us" after the 3 tests. I am sure ganguly and other team members wud spit on him!
  
  I wud certainly be shocked if he says his team performed better than south africans
  
  i wud feel like slapping him when he says tendulkar scored the highest runs among the 2 teams and so india is better.
  
  ganguly and everyone else did accept that the indians stank badly in RSA... u seem to have confused owning up mistakes and defatist mentality.. they need not be the same!
  
  what good its is for non-indians to know about the weaknesses of india and discuss it among themselves.. whats the use to us?
  
  If I fail in some exams I need to accept I sccrewed up so that i can work on improvement.. if i keep looking at 1 or 2 individual questions that i did well and convince myself i am not so bad at all.. and hence dont put any extra effort i will never pass.
  
  Infact those 2 or 3 questions where i did well tells me there is more -vity in me that over compensates for whatever +vity I have.(that explains the 1 or 2 good roads in hyderabad and the other million bad roads ) infact u had to specifically pick a city when wanting say positive abt india and also specifically choose a city to say some bad things abt USA...
  
  Also I wud take a point or two from a person who does well in class and try and become like him.
  I wud work against the psycology that "loosers dont like doing what winners habitually do" and wud try and compensate for such a possibility that I may not like to do something that wud help me become better!

  NCR.. there r many kinds of people
  1) who come over abroad and critisize india with an ulterior motive of taking credit for themsleves because USA is superior( and thereby suggesting they r also superior). people who drink bisleri bottles in India and say India is a dirty country.
  
  2) People who turn a blind eye on India's faults (which indirectly is their own). they concentrate on the faults of the other country and keep pointing it out not realizing that they have the same faults too and MORE.( example the fake licenses)
  
  3) the people who mind their own buisiness and their own faults and work towards correcting them.
  
  I have been saying certain things even b4 i learnt to locate USA in the world map. I dont think coming over here changed me and I also dont think coming over here should disqualify me from saying such things.. its this particular over rated opinion that I strongly detest.
  
  I feel like that Indians and our infrastructure is strongly over rated much like our cricket team and its time some shot out the rhetoric and did something purposeful!

  Bharath what I meant was there is no point in Das, Laxman Ganguly complaing about that the team stinks. Its because Das, laxman and others form the team. It doenst make any difference, It doesnt make any sense as everybody knows as India is loosing.
  
  Just telling that team stinks doesnt make any difference unless each member of the team do something to perform well.
  
  Same way any Indian complaing that India stinks is the same as they are part of India.
  
  I dont need to be defiant against anything but what exactly my point is what is the use of somebody just criticising some country?
  
  If you fail any exam, thats your fault. Dont keep telling that your neighbor who is first in the class is great and you stink. Every one will laugh at you because it is clear from the result. This doenst make you first in the class or pass the exam. If you have any merits, try to work on that and be better.Just telling that India stinks doesnt do anything better to anybody.
  
  Bottom Line: If you dont like leave it ( You have already done that ). If you can change it change it. I remember one dialog in Good Bad Ugly movie, If you want to kill, Kill, Dont talk...
  
  Spinzone: Dont say that all Indians dont pay tax, I agree that there is a percentage who dont pay tax I dont know whether you paid tax in India when you were in India?

  NCR- It's true that there's no point in just talking. You have to roll-your-sleeves-up and start working to change things. But there is nothing wrong in talking about it. Only that, one should'nt stop with just talking.
  When somebody shy-ed away from accepting the facts (about india), bharath has to emphasize the facts with examples.
  Since this is just a discussion forum, one can only talk. To work towards betterment of india and things about what he talked - is upto him in his life.

  1) There is a fundametal assumption that when a person stinks he knows it. I dont think so a person partly stinks because he doesnt know about it.
  
  2) We indians have over stressed the pazhmozhis like "kolaikara nai kadikaathu" "empty vessels make sound" etc to the point of believing that " kadikara nai kolaikaathu" " If it makes sound it is empty and so one shld always keep quiet"
  
  3) all this is a result of over rated'ness of modesty as a character attribute in our country. In order to display humulity and modesty we belive we have to be silent if we are to do anything useful.
  
  4) well! here the news for u... NO if u dont say people dont get it! Its a no win situation if u do something w/o letting others know what u r doing and why u r doing this?

  i am not for people chanting that "india sux" but i am for people to stop living in an illusion and look at us in the correct perspective. is weare far behind. unless that fact is preached no one will feel the neccessity to get up and work.
