Honestly I think India doesn't deserve someone talented and intelligent like AR Rahman. I think compared to his group of fans, there are double the amount of Deva and Raja fans. (Read that again, I'm not saying that there are no ARR Indian appreciators or fans)
Is it because Indians are unable to understand his style of music? Is it because deep inside, ghana and dhampakoothu are what they want?
If tomorrow, ARR decides to give up India music, I will be happy because he gets the recogniztion he deserves overseas and can concentrate on his western projects more. Read Andrew Lloyd Webber and Michael Jackson.

kiru,
you r correct! I concur with ur views that america is not the paradigm for holiness.
But I resent the attitude of some indians in not taking cue and learning from some wonderful examples that they set in some fields (sports games and movies for instance) and instead only try and ape theit -ve points( vulgarity, sex and the MTV culture) and at the same time critisize them for their -ve points.
//"more sense of individuality and respect for personal space etc..."//
what a wonderful example.. this is the strength of their sucess. I have seen some co-workers who come dressed in half pants to their managers room. put their feet on his desk and talk back boldly... they get promoted do wonderful research and lead the company very well...
i have also seen people in india who stand up when their boss is in the 3 mile radius.. say "good morning" at the drop of a hat and bitch abt the same guy behind his back and do nothing to improve the company's progress.
i have been guilty of doing that to my teacher when i was a student. I am also not saying that respect is bad thing . i will never say that. but some times the over emphasis on respect has crushed our individuality so much that we have become an "attu manthai" gumbal of engineers, labourers and workers.. with very little pioneers leaders and thinkers...

i agree with all this but a quick question. Do u have #'s for India? even if u have do u believe the statistic is accurate w/o adultration. Do u think all the villages and patti thottis r covered in this census?

Bharat;
I do not understand you being so wild on the situation in India. If you look back at the history, India, always been utliized like a prostitute, unlike any other countries history. People used it to the maximum one after the other. Coming to the present day aspects, yes the lack of common sense is a big factor. You being one among all Indians there is no point in accusing. You are also some way, some where responsible for it. You can still add up 100s or probably 1000s in the list. But is there any point in doing that coz.. you are just exposing what everybody knew and faced. But, just not only for sentimental sake, i wud say it is ultimately your own country. Nearby house can be luxurious, stylish..but for me my home is the best place..I get something more than luxury..you will agree to that.. It may not have any values for others, and usual, stereo type way of accusing us but definitely it has its own values for you. If there is going to be a big problem here in the US, it is the only place you can go, stay and claim. The door was kept open thousands of Srilannkan Tamils, Fiji indians and many such India-originated people had no better options.
Don't hesitate some interesting sites where many many compare and discuss this kinda problems here

I certainly am. But one other responsibility as a citizen of india that i have is to find out my weakness and propagate the solution to such weakness. although this df is not exactly such a place i am doing it thro the proper channels also.
The problem that I have with our people (which include me u and our parents also ) is that instead of developing a maturity to accept the mistakes. we thro accusations at a country which is much much more developed than us and quote ancient history and cultural heritage as the reason why we r suprior to countries like USA.
Now we r not as developed as italy france, england or even china for that matter all of them have a similar history with france and china having undergone more torment in the past.
i recall sidhu talking abt ostriches burying their head in the sand not realising he was an ostrich also! I see us doing that burying or heads of reason into the sand of a illusional over exaggerated history!
I wud rather like to see someone say improve the conditions of roads in madras and say "hey! now this road is as good as any other road in the world" rather than talk abt the music season the culture and temples and then conclude madras is the best place in the world.
Its allright to live in a dirty house... but its not a good idea to mock at a luxurious house and deceive ourselves that we r living in a luxurious house.
The first step towards moving to a luxurious house is to acknowledge and accept ( read NOT advertise but just ack) that our house needs improvement and work on it.
when a south african fan says India is a inferior cricket team we need to understand that its a fact with maturity and work on improving not argue back saying the south african spectators turn up in bra's and half nude dresses and so the indian team is better!

Bharat; The first mistake we do is comparing. I agree that we have big drawback(s) such as our polictical system, self-worried people. We take just few facts for comparison. Apple has good taste..Tamarind has a differnt taste.. You can not say apple is better just because it tastes sweet. apple can not be used in the place of tamarind. They are good in their own sense..By comparing US and India just on the basis of few social aspects are more similar. If you ask me rather comparing and say this is better than that, I wud say each has its own values. I can put hundred salient features on every side's be half. History has a valid reason for all these things. India is multifold times older than some recently originated rich countries. Our concepts on life, society, education all were completely different and has a strong impact on our growth. Think about a country with 1 billion people, 900+ languages, 6+ religions, innumerable customs and countless number of castes. All these are born old and die hard. I can not say which of them is right and wrong. But an overwriting job is going to take 100 times more energy than writing them on something new. I don't stand here to argue that we are the best. But I would say to make a simple, a very simple change it is not an easy thing. If you have a chance see "Thevar magan..Sivaji's advise to Kamal part.

yaaro,
This was expected with the way the case was conducted. Poor Venkatapathy was harassed by Dinakar - it is quite obvious that fellow Dinakar was bribed. However, I've now pinned my hopes on the Supreme Court. Hope justice is served atleast there.
Finally, as you said, God save TN.

Well, without knowing the law and/or the case details, I shouldn't have passed such a comment against a judge in my previous posting.

Shanmugam;
What you have said is true. If this court has released her then what did the earlier courts do? Why did they charge her? It appears Justice can can make a 180 deg turn around depends on game and players. What I understand from all this is;
Truth is unique; Justice not.
Truth is unchanged; Justice not.
Truth can not be manifested; Justice can.
hence "Justice is not truth;

Friends pls tell me why tamil film music has turned into non-story sticking,soul-less,dust-bin like?.Is it because after the entry of ARR and Deva?

Raman,
Definitely not...It depends upon the director and producer, who give situation to the MD. They underestimate our taste and go only for college dappanguththu or a love song. Nothing more than that. What Deva or Rahman can do for that ? Even they feel irritated by this, I suppose.
Rahman told in an interview that he wants to get different situations to compose songs. That's why he goes for albums like vande mataram.

your feelings are same as mine. our country has not at all changed. a decade back, people would travel in cycle, stop at roadside and piss. now, they go in hyundai, stop.....
i wonder how the westerners achieved such a sense of cleanliness. after all, once they were also like us!
anyhow, apart from the cl., indians have a lot to be proude of.

For many things in India, there are no records. We come to know about the US records so much because they keep it so well. In India, where there is little value for a human life, records for such things is a luxury - first let them have the necessary stats. in place. Even if they get good stats., they are just going to fill reports and manifestos.

Fliflo:
I have read articles in Junior Vikatan about Justice Dinkar. He is a straigt-forward man. On the contrary, Venkatapathy - has sympathy towards DMK (it seems he has appeared for DMK in many cases). May be, while DMK was ruling, rule & laws were bent, to make Jayalalitha suffer.
Btw, Thiru. Karunanidhi & family's wealth .... how much they could amass ..is anybody's guess...Jayalalitha, was a fool to display what she has looted (that also shows her inability in hiding the things, may be learning)...compared to the seasoned man like Thiru. Karunanidhi...
just my views...
