Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

hey vatsa,
u look at ARR with a very pessimistic view and IR with a over-optimistic view.... i referred harsha to show u the reach of ARR in various cross-sections of population.... TN has not credited ARR... he is always being put down in front of IR which is not necessary in many occasions... read TIMES,Mumbai u'll find out how much ARR is popular here.... listen to "Uyire" where ARR composed a song "Vinmeenakali thandi" which is the most soul-stirring sound that i've ever heard in my whole life.....
and also y the heck couldn't IR become popular even in Mumbai and Delhi? accept it man...he doesent have the talent to attract alien ppl. he is a champ in "Gundu chattiyil kuthurai ottaruthu" just like his fanss...
u also have to accept Mumbai is the hep-place in India and ppl. here are better than "Yettappan's offsprings Tamils"

Maddy,
I dont know why you take things close to heart.
see my last posting which says:
"If people in TN just give credit for what IR or ARR is worth that would meet any quality." See we
in TN (the yettapans) would be happy, because we are sensible.
We are sensible, we are not followers of popular "western" belief and have some originality. Places in South India will be the hep place in few years with people being sensible (population hardly grows in South India as opposed to morons in the rest of India there who populate India like anything who make the economy worse and living conditions worse). We have two of the great art forms in India which is known all around the world (Bharatanatyam and Carnatic).
Mumbai or Delhi being a hep place does not mean you guys have great music sense. You need to read papers in south as well (I think you are being a gunduchetti kuthirai with all your posting referring to mumbai and times). You need to see "Bombay dreams" which potrays what popular bollywood taste is like. ARR is very popular in Mumbai because you seem to get good MDs once in 20 yrs. Surrounded by people like Annu Malik and others (copy appans) everyone will praise ARR.
Harsha stuff,
If you said my friends like it. Most of would have agreed. Harsha likes him with link means you are jubilant that harsha likes him (with he being a not anyway related to music ).

Vatsa, you are being unnecessarily nasty about rest of India. I don't like ARR. I think IR had achieved much more than any other modern film MD can think of(RD Burman and AR Rahman included). But, no need to be nasty with the rest.
Speaking for myself, in the land of carnatic and bharatanatyam, an artist like ARR who lacks in classical music big time(east or west), will not be #1. IR was great in western and very good in Indian classical. And he took his music to people with folk stuff too. Every one in TN welcomed ARR when he came in. But, by 1995, it was clear ARR was good sound engineer with pop music base. For classically oriented listeners, this is not going to sell. For folk oriented people, ARR has little to offer. As far as Hindi film goes, ARR was an improvement from the days of copy cats like Bappi, Nadeem-Shravan and Anand Millind. No wonder he is popular in bollywood than chennai, where copycats were never #1. Tamil films had copycats like veda and deva, but they are never respected.

Maddy!!
"Music is life" then y couldn't IR destroy ARR.. u mean to say that IR being a GENIUS,GREAT man could not remove a small untalented man from the industry with his music or arrest people from listening to ARR by giving some spellbinding music??? well for ARR's BGM's go and listen to "Uyire" where ARR composed a song "Vinmeenakali thandi" which is the most soul-stirring sound that i've ever heard in my whole life.....
My Answer:
Dude you should start growing up, what the hell are you talking.
IR is a Genius, no doubt about that, i dont need to prove it here (3-decades of music, 800+ films, one symphony).
i dont undermine ARR either, but the way you are talking makes no sense. There needs to be a competition, otherwise it does not bring the best out of a person (he becomes stale). I wish to tell you that ( still i like one song from Boys (Dating), it is just personal preference of Carnatic melody into a good fusion).
Again, there are so many IR songs that are soul stirring, and see BGM'S in almost all movies of IR, we just end up talking about personal opinions.
Uyire: you mentioned, i liked the song too, but i have heard the similar (not the same) beat with Ozzy Osbourne in No more Tears.
Whole Life?: i think you mentioned you were in your twenties, still lot more to go to appreciate different forms/parts of music. it takes a little more time to understand +ve criticisms, fact.
Dont be fictional in all your comments.
You conveniently left out talking about the Hollywood style music composing coz people give facts.
So I am not here to bash on ARR, coz i like some of his songs too. that does not let me allow a person to talk without basis.
For the matter of fact, I like VS song in Parthiban kanavu (Enna thavam seithanai), to tell you what fusion is, there is no English words in it, nice Carnatic base ( i think the raag is kapi) moves into a regular movie type folk rythm, comes back to Carnatic. this is my personal preference, people might like ARR high bang new stuff ( which i do sometimes ), but expect more from a person who takes more time to compose, research or even take time to experiment.
I tell ya, Rangeela was one gr8 album by ARR. If ARR is so talented why cant he remove VS, YSR from TFM (this argument is foolish, childish and stupid and totally immature, i dont know why i am telling you this).
Dont argue based on Personal liking and preference!!
IRRRRRRR!!!
I did not notice veda and deva is just transpositioning of words!! gr8 to see it
Vatsa!!
True as IRRR dont bash on Indians in total.
Another important note:
Aathira karanukku buthi mattu, so need of anger in retaliating back, just think and answer.

Hmmmm
did you guys actually sit next to ARR to come up with statements like he does not have spomtaneous creativity and takes long time to compose??
SUN TV wanted ARR to compose something extemporaneously in their Pongal ARR Special Interview. HE wrote the tune then and there and called the Nadhswaram player and Thavil player from the recording room and recorded the song which now plays without fail as SUN TV"S official Pongal theme music.
Look at how he has brilliantly fused the song. The whole song might be available in www.mohankumars.com as Pongal Theme
This is just one instance and agreed. But it goes to show that ARR has the stuff to cpose some great tunes instantly and record them right away.
ARR does a lot of painstaking thinking when he finishes an album
To do the music of Lagaan he actually visited the Kutch region to get the smell of their culture.
To do the BGM of Uyire he visited Ladakh where the shooting went on to get the feel of the Ladakhi areas.
You can see the results of these painstaking researches. He has used an arabic string instrument with a great "twang" sound in the BGM of Uyire where Manisha physically assaults ShahRuk Khan! Sounds magnificent!
In Thiruda Thiruda he has a theme music that goes "Ammeyyyyyyyy Bhagavathi" and continues with Udukkai! All this takes some time and ARR wants to achieve perfection in his music. Quality is foremost! Thats why he takes times!

MADDY: Learn to understand and comprehend first - in that "Harsha Bhogle" article, he seemed to be putting ARR "Down", not praising him. Read the sentence again carefully. Not that I give a damn.
