Gems of K S Chitra

Off late, K S Chitra has become one of my hot favourites amongst female singers. Her voice has a unique and rich timbre which I really enjoy. lets take this opportunity to discuss songs by her in Tamil and various other languages - Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. Her songs sung under the tutelage of Ilayaraja, AR Rehman, Ravindran et al are really excellent, moreover she has a delightful classical touch as is seen in her rendition of "alaipayuthe" and the Sindhubhairavi songs. She has done a great deal of Hindu and Christian devotional albums in Southern languages...lets discuss those. My favourite Chitra song so far remains "gopika vasantham" and her duet with SPB in the Telugu
movie Swathikiranam. What a voice and that sharpness!

  does any1 know who sung the telugu version of "paadariyen..padippariyen..paLLikoodam naaraiyen..."? Was it chitra only? { i got this as "naanoru sindhu kaavadi chindhu" was sung by PS in telugu.

  U reminded me of my childhood days when my father used to play some of those songs(the old ones u mentioned) when i come home from school..

  If i am not wrong i think we dont have a KSC version of Aaro viral neeti.Correct me if i am wrong..Only KJY has sung in the cassette..wow..What a rendition man..Vidhyasagar suits to mallu music than anyother language IMHO..
  MD's give solo songs to both KSC and KJY..anyone of them will appear in film or in some cases both..and every time KSC will try to sing in diff way from KJY..

  Padariyen... was sung by chitra in telugu. The song goes Paadalaenu pallavaina.. The song is available on musicindiaonline.com. Go to Telugu--> Alphabet S--> Sindhubhairavi. Naanoru sindu was sung by Suseela in telugu and that song goes Nenoka sindhu kaatuka chindae...
  
  A couple of songs of chitra in malayalam that I would like to add are
  a) Samayamithapoorva saayaannam...Harikrishnans
  b) Oru raathri koodi...Summer in Bethlehem (this movie has some good songs composed by Vidyasagar)
  c) Pular kaala sundara...Oru maimaasa pulariyil (did I get it right?)..what a song this is!

  The link given here refers to the stage version. The moment I heard the song, I decided that the Goddess of singing I have been searching in my life is indeed Chithra :-) Little can I describe the emotive singing by chithra in this song epitomized only by the apt lyrics and picturized beautifully on the late actress Monisha. Sheer joy coupled with the admiration for this powerful yet simple tune, binds any listner and needless to say, won the second national award for chithra. Another important point to be observed is that Chitra is the ONLY singer who reproduces her film songs on stage with 99.9999 % pristine purity. I can hardly find any difference between her stage performances and film renditions unless I be deafened for some reason.

  As peeps had said aptly, this indeed is one of those great nostalgic songs that is bound with the listneners of my age. We grew up with IR,SPB, KJY, SJ and Chithra and this particular song has in it the ability to provoke the strong sense of feeling close to family.

  this song was composed by jhonson who is an out and out WC person. This indeed is intriguing since this song is a beautiful pseudo-classical and a tough one to deliver. It shunts betwen various ragas and is delievered to clinical perfection.
