  Madhana moga roopa sundari is set to Lathaangi by IR.
  If you want very good Chandrakauns listen to MSV's 'Raaja Veethi Bhavani Vandhathu" - 2nd stanza the lines of which are "Vaanin sivappellam un vizhyil thanga" sung by TMS & Susheela in the movie Anbe AAruyire.

  "karaiyAtha manamum uNdo" is apparently in a rare ragam, according to Hari Govindan. This is what he wrote to me in a mail :
  
  "I have always assumed this song to be in
  Chandrakauns. But wait, the song uses both ga2 and ga3! I have always thought of this song as slightly off-key Chandrakauns. Now I know why! This is a pa varjya janya of the 33rd mela Gangeyabhooshani. The name is Hema Bhushani.
  It takes for both ascent and descent: sa, ga2, ga3, ma1, dha1, ni3, sa."

  in a scale/raga akin to the following songs- 1.
  'Nee partha parvaikkoru nanri.' from Heyram & 2.
  'Oh Butterfly..butterfly..'from MEERA- I am not
  able to grille it to any raga-probably in western
  scale.IMHO all these 3 songs are set in same scale
  Can anyone fix them in a proper frame?

  I read that the songs "innum ennai enna seyya pogiraai" (from Singara vElan) and "kaadhal oorvalam ingE" (from Pookkalai parikkaadhirgal) are based on Gambeera naatai. Also,i think the private album song "ganapathiyE varuvaai arulvaai" (sirkaazhi) is based on the same raga.

  Innum Ennai is definitely Gambheera Naattai. Does Thilang have a 'Ri' like Naattai?
  "Nallathor VeeNai Seithe" from 'VaRumayin NiRam Sigappu' I thought was Thilang.
  Can anyone confirm?

  neels again... 'Kadhal ROjave' is mainly set to KAPI (Pilu in Hindustani, like the Mughal E Azam song, 'Mohe Panghat Pe Nandalal').
  In fact this seems to be ARR's favorite raga, as he has used it umpteenth times. For instance, 'En MEl Vizhundha' from May Madham, 'Kuchi Kuchi' from Bombay...
  
  It's the alaap by Sujata in 'Kadhal Rojave' that's set to Desh. It being the highlight of the song, (reiterated by ARR's use of it throughout the BG score of Roja), no wonder everyone thinks it's Desh.

  innum ennai enna seyya is 'thilang' and not g.nattai. I know 'ganapathiyae varuvai ' is g.nattai. so is ' Gnana vinayaganae '. But I am yet to come across a film song

  thilang.The other songs in G.nattai is 1.'Peygalai
  nambathey..' in 'Mahanadhi'
  The song 'Isaipadu nee..ilam thenrale ..'is set in
  nattai vis a vis 'Narumugaiye..' in 'Iruvar' setin
  (pallavi) nattai- in charanam it is set in Maund'

  while most people mis-identify the song as set in
  'Desh' because of the humming scale in desh.Kudos!
  it is only KAPI with desh humming.
  The song 'Kadhaloviyam.'from Alaigal oyvadhillai'
  is set in WESTERN Harmonic Major Scale..i.e., our
  Sankarabaranam'in western scale- you can compare
  this song with 'Putham pudhu bhoomi vendum' from
  'Thiruda..thiruda..'- by ARR

  Regarding Narumugaye from Iruvar, i felt that Unni is singing the song in Gambeeranaatai (flat, no R3), while Bombay Jayashri is singing in Naatai, with emphasis on the S N3 P N3 S R3... S.
  
  and though the 1st interlude is set to mAnd, the charanam seems to have anya swarams and prayogams like "G3 D2 D1 N3 D2.. P M1 G3"...which make it sound unlike mAnd..

  Thanks for the insight. i didn't know the existence of two ragas.Thamizhil oru 'Pa' than irukku. adhaan confusion. I meant the raga in which "Ezhu swarangalukkul" is set to. I suppose this is Panthu. Can you mention some songs in Banthu please?
